Funny, I've been writing perl scripts for a while now and have to say that I hardly ever use 'tr', I most often use 's'. But in that case it looks like the best choice. I guess I'm usually just lazy and would break the substitution into two separate statements.

In this copycat league, the question on 31 GM's and owner's minds this morning is: How did they do it? How did the Flyers' new management turn celler dwellers and laughing stocks into world champions? The answer, it seems, is that they Flyers simply listened to what those teams said, and not what they did.

You can't listen to any GM for more than 5 minutes without him talking about the importance of team chemistry. "Great teams win Super Bowls, not Great Players," is the party line. Malcontents and egoists are routinely bashed in the media and held up as examples of what is wrong with the league today.

However, by the time the preseason rolls around, the league's collection of usual suspects is generally employed and, to put it lightly, not living hand to mouth. 31 teams talk the talk about team chemistry, but always seem to make an exception or three when the rubber meets the road. These exceptions, more often than not, ruin the teams' seasons, and keep NFL journalists in business.

The Flyers are different. From the beginning, team management made a commitment to team chemistry and stuck to it. Insiders report that numerous players were wiped off the Flyers' draft board and scratched off their Free Agent shopping list when management made a decision that the player would not have a positive effect on the locker room. The result, as they say, speaks for itself. The Flyers' locker room is, by all accounts, one of the closest and most tight knit in the league, and more importantly, the Flyers won the Super Bowl.

When the 31 GMs begin their annual process of copycatting the Super Bowl champion, they would do well to read their own rhetoric and do no more than follow that.

I know that interceptions are the "big stat" when it comes to defensive backs, but I like to look a little deeper (in FOF) and check out "passes defensed." In that category, our CB Edgar Bordano was the clear leageu leader, with 28 passes defensed (to only 57 catches allowed). That's 6 more than anybody else this year, it's a team record by a margin of 10 (!!!) and only eight guys have ever had more in league history. Bordano is a free agent after this season... will be a tough call, as he will demand a king's ransom. Just didn't want his excellent season to go unnoticed.

Yes, you are right Fritz. I pulled up this old thread to see what draft file I uploaded for last year so that I upload the correct one for this year. Then I wasn't paying attention and posted in the wrong thread. I'll transfer this to the other thread.
