isn't this a shinning example of why developers should never never ever set a specific release date?

But didn't they say a couple of weeks ago that it would be delayed a couple of months to get the additional features and more beta testing completed?

I, for one, am happy with the decision. I've gone to "not at all" considering buying TPF, to "very interested". I'm encouraged by the fact that they're making sure to release a quality product from the start.

Yes Bucc, they pushed back the release date from Oct 31. They didn't say when the game would be released though and many speculated that it would be released sometime in November |

Sounds like a wise decision. A popular one, no...we all wants games to be out asap. However, taking some heat NOW for a delay ismuch better than releasing now only to have tons of possible problems due to things not being completed or properly tested.

Actually, Farrar mentioned at the time of the delay that, "My best guess is that TPF will be released anytime between mid-November to early/mid-December." Considering that she works for 400ss then I would have listened to her more so than the other board members in regards to all of the speculation. |

I'm actually very pleased by this. 1st time game that will be under a great deal of scrutiny by a small but demanding community. Their company has raised the ire of the community once before with a "not ready for prime time" release. This just makes perfect sense. Get it right, or as close to right as they can make it.
It also leaves a very nice time span, perhaps as long as 6-7 weeks, in which I will fully be able to dork out on fof2004. By the time I'm ready to come up for air, tpf will be there to push me back under |

I agree in saying that I think this is a smart decision by .400 to iron out the bugs and improve on the features and not be bothered by a specific release date. Plus an added bonus is the potential of increased exposure in the extra waiting period. Of course the flip side is that they may lose some sales, especially after FOF2004 is released, but all in all I think it's a smart move in the long run. Just my .02.

Hmmm...so far I've seen a number of people say that pushing back the release until December has made them more interested. By this logic, a planned March of 2006 release would have made you guys even more a-quiver.

Yes, but some people in particular find a need to re-hash old news over and over just to stir up controversy. Yes, the date should have never been set IMO. But it was, now .400 Studios has to fix the situation... they are doing that. They are giving people what they want... important features and more time spent on bug fixing... but of course people have problems with that. I don't have a problem with talking about the decision to delay, but certain people continue to re-hash this over and over... for no other reason to stir stuff up. The same people would still complain if the release date wasn't delayed and the game came out without said features. |

KJDelaney is a whiner. This date was nothing new. Regardless of that fact, he/she still sees the need to whine about it on at least two different message board communities (and in at least two threads at .400). Gimme a break. Furthermore, has anyone read his thread over at .400??? Apparentely there are a number of people that are not true football fans there. There was a whole lot of "But the game won't come out during the season" crap said. Sheesh. A real football fan doesn't care. I want to play a football sim in January. I want to play a football sim in February. I want to play a football sim in March. I want to play a football sim in April. I want to play a football sim in May. I want to play a football sim in June. I want to play a football sim in July. I want to play a football sim in August. I want to play a football sim in September. I want to play a football sim in October. I want to play a football sim in November. I want to play a football sim in December.

I like the fact that he/she has come over here looking to generate a lot of negativity towards the game and a majority of the reraction has been positive.

This is my point of view too. I have already made plans of getting both games, just not at the same time. FOF2004 is first in my mind, and then TPF. If they both come out with a few months in between, it'll simply work better for me at least... FM

Good, now I can concentrate on FOF 2004, then TPF at a latter date!

.400 Studios: "Putting the 2004 in TPF 2004!"
JUST kidding guys! Since I have absolutely no knowledge of what's going on with the game, I can't help but agree that this is for the best. Release it when it's ready. I do, though, have a small issue with SD's assertion that "REAL" football fans don't care when a game is released and will play a game year-round. That may be true - I've certainly fired up FOF or TCY in July - but on average, my interest for a game peaks during the professional season and slips away after the playoffs, as I get sensory overload on most sports at that point. Will I play both FOF and TPF into March? Most definitely. But you can bet that once spring training rolls around, my attention will fall squarely on OOTP6, and only when I need a change of scenery will I go back to either one of those games - most likely July - unless I suddenly find myself with a whole lot of extra time on my hands. And with a baby due in May...somehow I don't see that happening!

This may be the best thing for .400 - this way FOF2k4 will be out for a while and people could be looking for a little something new. Out comes the sleek looking TPF and they may have a few more sales. (and for us poor college students...christmas money!!!).

My quote from TPF"Heck, football season will be 3/4 over by then" Well, I feel the same exact way as you skydog and believe me football sims and sim racing games are all I play, but the reason why I said it was because *normally* companies sell their games before or just after the football season begins. The TPF release cycle will be much different from other companies. I am not sure if that is good or bad for them (.400ss) As far as me being a Madden football gamer....hahahahahahaha. Thats a good one........ Last edited by maximus : 10-30-2003 at 06:12 PM. |
