Falcons bench their entire secondary

ESPN is reporting that the Falcons will bench their entire secondary for next week's game. I do not know who will go out there instead, but I am guessing it can't be any worse than what they have been trotting out there.

I'm not a big fan of all of Dan Reeves moves, but I dont have a problem with this one. Maybe now the Falcons will only give up 28 points a game instead of 35...

So that's what Dan Reeves called me about. I'll have to get back to him on that...

I'll bet Deion could come out of retirement and play better than the Falcons secondary.

Can we please get Deion, Brian Jordan, and Tim McKyer back on the roster?

I was a huge Scott Case fan. I loved watching him hit WRs hard when they came over his area...

Nice guy (off the field) Scott Case. Sat with him & Jeff Blauser at a concert quite a few years back, both of them acted like actual normal people. And considering some of the ego-ridden athletes I've run across through the years, that was a pleasant surprise.

Hopefully this will be what McNabb needs to get out of his funk.

There is nothing wrong with McNabb that playing the Falcons won't fix.

Now if we could just get Reeves to bench Bob Whitfield. Hell, ANYONE can hold as good as he can.

If I'm the Falcons, I just sit him as long as he needs. They'll lose this week to go to 1-7, and be pretty much completely out of the playoffs. No reason to fuck Vick up even more if he's not going to help out this season (in terms of taking the Falcons back to the playoffs).

A lot of people have talked about him essentially missing the season. That's wrong.

Vick is still a youngun and he needs the playtime and experience.

With only one year of starting in the pro game, if you bench him for essentially an entire season, can you imagine what he'll look like next year? Rust won't even begin to cover it.

Plus, it's just not about the playoffs. Those people who bought season tickets want to see Vick play. What bout them? What about the integrity of the game? You get healthy, you want to play, your the best player at the position, you play. None of that resting until next season junk.

Let's be accurate. He won't run on it yet. He is the only one right now who thinks he can't run on it. There is nothing medically wrong with him, he has simply stated that he won't run until he can do so with zero pain.

Mostly, though the two starting CB (Ray "No Play" Buchanan and Williams) are only playing like they are injured. This is a good move. They need to let the new guys play. Bolden and McBride will get starts at CB, and right now it will be Hall and the rookie Scott playing FS and SS respectively.

In even better news, they are switching to the 4-3. I think this was a must. The defense needs Jasper and Johnson on the field. I wish Brooking was going to play, because he is made for the 4-3 (and not at all for the 3-4).

I think it is good news, but too late. Ray should have been moved to saftey and the team should have been play the 4-3 from the pre-season.

What I don't understand is all of the preseason hype of Falcons being a playoff team. With that defense?? Or does Mr. Excitement plays defense as well before he got hurt?

This is basically the same defense that got them in the playoffs last year. The only loss was Ambrose, and you would think Williams would at least be an even trade.

What Grant said. They had a decent pass rush last year. The secondary struggled, but the front seven weren't all that bad.

They went from 19th in the league in defense last year to 32nd this year. There weren't a lot of changes on that side of the ball. It really should have improved a little bit.

A big part of the problem with their defense deals with the offense. The offense last year averaged 76 yards more a game than they do this year. The offense helped keep the defensive guys fresh. A very similar thing happened to the Raiders this year. They finished 11th in total defense last year. They sit 24th right now. When the offense starts putting up a ton of three and outs, it makes it very difficult for anything but the top defenses to function.

The Falcons front 7 last year was a bit better than "not all that bad." They had ascended to "pretty good" by the end of the season.

As for the second point, see the Pittsburgh Steelers for an example.

I'd agree with that, though they still had a tough time stopping the run. They've went from fourth in the league in sacks to the middle of the pack this year with the same players. Good coaching job there.

The two worst coaching jobs this season have been Dan Reeves and Greg Williams. I said it at the time and still feel strongly about it, the Bills are going to regret not hiring Marvin Lewis when they had a chance.
