What does it take to win a Slick Fielder Award? It's a combination of good hands, knowing how to play the hitters, all-out hustle and a willingness to sacrifice your body to make a play. Good speed and a good arm never hurt, either, but not always required. This year's all-defense team in the Continental League consists of:

Rookie of the Year Crowned in CL

Fernando López's age didn't show very often in his first year. He performed more like a veteran on the hill for the Oshawa Mullets and today he walked away with the 2119 Continental League Kien-lung Teng Award.

The 23-year-old starter registered a 12-11 record this season in 31 starts. Over 194.2 innings he gave up 183 hits, struck out 140 and issued 48 walks as he held the opposition to a .253 batting average and fashioned a 2.73 ERA.


Republic League Selects Premier Rookie
Monday, November 6th, 2119
2119 was an impressive year for Las Vegas left fielder Ricardo Rodríguez and it was capped off today with the announcement that he has been named the winner of the Republic League Kien-lung Teng Award.

Rodríguez compiled a .287 batting average and a .407 on-base percentage this season. In 149 games he piled up 165 hits, 2 home runs, 36 RBIs and 107 runs scored.

London's Sawyer Nets CL Mauro Morales Award

He's in the early phase of his career, but this past season Bill Sawyer performed like a veteran on the hill for the London Bishops and walked away with the Continental League Mauro Morales Award in the process.

The 21-year-old Bishops star fashioned a 18-10 won-loss record in 2119 with a 2.77 ERA. In 240 innings of work and 33 starts, Sawyer struck out 277 while giving up 192 hits and 75 walks. He held opposing batters to a .217 average.

Jimmy Dukes of the Waikiki Beach Boys will be adding a new centerpiece to his mantel after being tabbed for the Republic League Mauro Morales Award today.

The 33-year-old hurler started 33 games this season, tallying a 18-11 record. In 210.1 innings, Dukes gave up 185 hits, struck out 195, walked 62 and held opponents to a .231 average as he posted a fine 2.95 ERA.

Harris Selected CL's Top Batter

Omaha's Billy Harris put the wraps on a fine campaign today by winning the 2119 Continental League Bartolo Liriano Award.

The 32-year-old veteran scorched the opposition with a .311 average, picking up 182 hits, 40 doubles, 3 triples, 35 home runs and 95 RBIs, while scoring 89 runs.


Mi-yuan Yap Chosen RL's Premier Hitter

Mi-yuan Yap was hitting on all cylinders in 2119, making Maricopa a very happy organization. He put up some solid numbers this year and was awarded the Republic League's Bartolo Liriano Award today.

The right fielder piled up 205 hits, 41 doubles, 6 triples, 24 home runs and 91 runs batted in on the way to crafting a .327 batting average.
