Torrid April Gets Yánez CL #1 Batter Trophy

When Jesús Yánez stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The young Plantana first baseman posted a .435 batting average with 10 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 31 runs. Yánez also worked pitchers for 16 walks to post a .534 on-base percentage.


Keith Wells Winner in Republic League

Keith Wells battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 34-year-old Wells told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 23 games, Wells hit .326 with 7 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 20 runs.

Fraser CL Winner, Top Hurler in April

Larry Fraser has made fans throughout FOOL-X take notice over the past month with an exceptional 3-0 record. No pitcher in the Continental League threw better in April, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

In 5 starts Fraser compiled a 1.56 ERA, putting up a 3-0 record, striking out 26 and tossing 34.2 innings.


Warren Garners RL #1 Pitcher Award

Tom Warren hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Republic League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In April the Chicago starter earned a 4-1 mark in 5 starts. He threw 34.1 innings, struck out 24 and compiled a solid 1.31 ERA.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

Kiyotaka Yamashita earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Manchester right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Yamashita hit .333 with no home runs, 7 RBIs and 12 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.


RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

John Malloch's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Ann Arbor center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .343 with 5 doubles, 3 triples and 5 home runs. Malloch also scored 22 times and drove in 7 runs.

Bermúdez Wins Best Bat Award in May

Ramón Bermúdez earned May's Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League by reeling off a .387 average, going 41 for 106 with 10 home runs, 35 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

The soon-to-be free agent was hitting with great urgency in an effort to bolster his asking price in the London clubhouse and around the rest of the league.

This season Bermúdez has hit at a .411 clip with 55 RBIs, 17 home runs and 46 runs scored. He has played in 49 games.


Patenaude Takes Best Bat Trophy in May

Free agent-to-be Wilbur Patenaude has inflated his asking price over the past 30 days by winning the Republic League Batter of the Month.

In May, the 30-year-old Waikiki right fielder hit .392 with 8 home runs and 22 RBIs.

If he keeps putting numbers like that up, he could be hauling in a big wad of cash at this time next year.

This year Patenaude has hit at a .308 pace and produced 29 RBIs, 10 home runs and scored 42 runs.

Terriers Hurler Named CL's Best Starter

Over the past month Preston Weaver has turned quite a few heads. He's young, talented and able to pitch with the established arms in the Continental League. He proved all that and now he's been named May's Pitcher of the Month.

The rookie for the Manchester Terriers posted 5-0 mark and a 2.25 ERA. In 6 starts he tossed 40 innings, permitted 34 hits and fanned 30 batters.

This season Weaver has registered 7 wins and 1 loss in 10 starts with a 2.77 ERA.


Holden Tabbed as May's Starter of the Month

Veteran Raymond Holden put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Maricopa Rattlers, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Holden racked up a 4-1 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.35 ERA over 40 innings and striking out 48.

So far this season, Holden has logged a 5-4 record with a 2.78 ERA. He has started 11 games, hurled 68 innings and registered 70 strikeouts and 18 walks.

Premier Rookie Named by CL

For a young man just making his way into the Continental League, Preston Weaver has shown incredible poise and confidence over the past month, netting him the coveted Rookie of the Month Award.

In May he fashioned a 5-0 mark and a 2.25 ERA. The Manchester starter struck out 30 in 40 innings as he walked 5 and held opposing batters to a .231 average.

In season stats Weaver shows a 7-1 record in 10 games, 68.1 innings, 42 strikeouts and a 2.77 ERA.


May's #1 RL Rookie Named

Youngster John Malloch emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Ann Arbor deserved the honor, batting .304 with 6 home runs and 15 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Malloch enjoy the limelight.

So far this season Malloch has 11 home runs and a .323 batting average.

Kim Takes CL's Best Bat Trophy

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 32-year-old Mun-yeong Kim put together a solid offensive month for Oshawa and was crowned June's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .372 with 9 home runs, 24 RBIs and 23 runs scored.



This year Kim has hit at a .310 clip with 97 hits, 15 home runs, 58 RBIs and 53 runs scored.


McMonegal of Waikiki RL Batter of the Month

On the heels of a very productive June, Melvin McMonegal received Republic League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested left fielder hit .356 for the Waikiki Beach Boys and racked up 5 home runs, 18 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

McMonegal is hitting .334 so far this season with 47 RBIs and 60 runs scored. He has 107 hits including 11 home runs, 39 walks and .413 OBP.

CL Selects Lewis June's #1 Pitcher

Bob Lewis's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-1 in June, the 27-year-old Oshawa hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 24 in 34.1 innings, logged an ERA of 3.41 and allowed opponents to hit .234 against him.

This season Lewis has a 9-3 record with a 3.06 ERA in 16 starts.


Portland's Black RL Top Pitcher

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Robin Black still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 33-year-old starter for Portland was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and 1 loss with 23 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.80 ERA in 45 innings of work.

Currently Black has a record of 7-5 with 52 strikeouts and 18 walks in 103.1 innings and a 3.48 ERA.

António Jiménez is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Manchester hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .324 average with 22 hits, no home runs and 10 RBIs.

This year Jiménez is hitting .249 with 3 home runs and 34 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .351 clip and scored 23 runs.

A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Nanni Innocenti just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 25-year-old left fielder for Maricopa hit .221 with 23 hits, 5 home runs and 15 RBI. He also logged 13 walks and compiled a .308 on-base percentage.

To date this year Innocenti is batting .239 with 11 home runs.

For a young man just making his way into the Continental League, Preston Weaver has shown incredible poise and confidence over the past month, netting him the coveted Rookie of the Month Award.

In May he fashioned a 5-0 mark and a 2.25 ERA. The Manchester starter struck out 30 in 40 innings as he walked 5 and held opposing batters to a .231 average.

In season stats Weaver shows a 7-1 record in 10 games, 68.1 innings, 42 strikeouts and a 2.77 ERA.


May's #1 RL Rookie Named

Youngster John Malloch emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Ann Arbor deserved the honor, batting .304 with 6 home runs and 15 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Malloch enjoy the limelight.

So far this season Malloch has 11 home runs and a .323 batting average.

Hmmmm. Both of those guys were drafted and traded by the st louis hops in the last few years. Malloch was always going to be a stud. I figured Preston would be nothing but a bottom rotation guy....i figured wrong!

De Jesús Wins CL's Best Bat Award

Plantana's Cristián De Jesús wowed sportswriters in July with an award-winning performance. For his standout play he was voted the Continental League Batter of the Month.

He rang up a .421 batting average with 7 home runs, 18 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He also had 2 walks and a .432 on-base percentage.

This season De Jesús is batting .316 with 44 RBIs, 63 runs scored and 18 home runs.


Waikiki's Davis RL #1 Batter in July

Beach balls were coming in at Jeff Davis in July and he banged, bashed and blasted them all over the park, putting up a .293 batting average and hauling in the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 26-year-old Waikiki first baseman collected 27 hits last month in 24 games. He put up 9 home runs, 22 RBIs and 20 runs scored. Davis also drew 14 walks and compiled a .383 on-base percentage.

This year Davis is hitting at a .305 pace with 25 home runs and 82 RBIs. He has played in 100 games and scored 71 times.

Burns Is CL's Best Pitcher in July

When Arnold Burns takes the mound, a Washington victory is usually the result. That was the the case in July.

That's why he was voted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

Burns throttled league hitters the whole month with an impressive 4-0 mark and 1.25 ERA in 5 starts. The Freedom star hurler also rung up 35 strikeouts in 36 innings.

This year Burns has compiled a 11-6 mark with a 3.51 ERA in 21 starts.


Beach Boys Young July's Top Hurler

When Vincent Young takes the hill, chances are good for a Waikiki victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and 3.03 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 35.2 innings, fanned 44 and held others clubs to a .235 average.

That's why the Beach Boys star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

This year Young has worked 131 innings with 153 strikeouts en route to a 10-5 record and 4.12 ERA.

Kiyotaka Yamashita was voted the Continental League Rookie of the Month award for his standout play in July.

The 23-year-old Manchester right fielder batted .312, hit 2 home runs and drove in 12 runs. He also tagged 29 hits, scored 19 runs and picked up 10 walks for a .393 on-base percentage.

In August London starter Bob Sharpe mystified Continental League hitters and carried off the Pitcher of the Month honors by chalking up a 4-0 record in 6 starts.

The 25-year-old Sharpe added 25 strikeouts in 43 innings and 11 walks to his season record and compiled a 0.63 ERA. Opposing batters hit .159 against him.

Checking out his stats for the season, Sharpe has notched 11 wins and 8 losses in 26 starts, 3.01 ERA and struck out 101 batters in 167.1 innings.

With August's Continental League Rookie of the Month title slung over his shoulder, Kiyotaka Yamashita has no reason to be modest about his statistical output. But he was, telling BNN reporters, "I just put the bat on the ball a lot and a lot of them fell in. It was just my month to shine."

The 23-year-old blistered the baseball last month as he posted a .347 batting average, 33 hits, 4 home runs, 10 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

Omaha's García Chosen CL Batter of the Month

September's Batter of the Month Award has been given out by the Continental League. This month's trophy was presented to the Omaha first baseman, Sergio García.

He starred by hitting .340 with a .437 on-base percentage, totaled 35 hits in 103 at-bats, 8 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 27 runs.

García is hitting .267 this season with 33 home runs, 88 RBIs and 111 runs scored. He has 173 hits in 649 at-bats.


RL Announces Outstanding Batter Award

Snap, crackle and pop!
In September, Ryan Moore snapped up the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy by cracking 42 hits and popping 10 home runs.

For the month he hit a solid .385 with 27 RBIs and 21 runs scored. The Spring designated hitter also picked up 13 walks to compile a .456 on-base percentage.

This year Moore has socked 191 hits in 626 at-bats for a .305 average with 31 home runs. He is getting on base at a .373 pace and his totals also include 119 RBIs and 104 runs scored.

Banana Sluggers Flores September's #1 Pitcher

No doubt about it!
Havana starter Alberto Flores earned his Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.
He made that very clear as he mowed his way through league hitters in September.
During the month Flores chalked up a 3-1 record with a 1.76 ERA.

The Banana Sluggers star made 6 starts and surrendered 39 hits in 41 innings. He struck out 36 and walked 12.

In 32 starts this season Flores has fashioned a 14-8 record and a 3.07 ERA.


Ke Top RL Starter in September

Gan Ke nailed down September's Republic League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Las Vegas to get a deal done before the 31-year-old becomes a free agent.

Ke seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 5-0 record, reeled off 22 strikeouts, worked 38.2 innings and held batters to a .288 average for the month as he posted a 2.79 ERA.

This season Ke has worked 193 innings with 115 strikeouts en route to a 12-13 record and a 4.38 ERA.

CL Rookie Vote Goes to Yamashita

Kiyotaka Yamashita performed better than any of his first-year peers in September and today was presented the Continental League Rookie of the Month trophy.

Last month the 23-year-old Manchester right fielder played in 27 games and hit .320 with 12 doubles, no triples and 1 home run. Yamashita also scored 10 times and drove in 8 runs.

In his 2117 season totals, Yamashita has 8 home runs, .296 BA, .372 OBP, 55 RBIs and 79 runs scored.


Malloch Picked September's Best Newcomer

John Malloch will be on his way to great things, if he keeps up September's production. The 25-year-old first-year player for Ann Arbor put up excellent numbers last month to claim the Republic League Rookie of the Month Award.

Last month the center fielder posted up a solid .313 average, 5 home runs, 16 RBIs, 36 hits, 8 walks, .368 OBP and scored 24 runs.

For the year Malloch is batting .273 with 23 home runs.
