Official reason? I just have to trust my own instincts, that's all.
It's a huge feature. I know add-on is a popular word in the industry today,
but, trust me, this isn't the sort of thing you can add on. Months and
months of work. Half of my (limited) role for FOF2001 was adding support to
the FOF data structures for a multi-player game. I have no idea if Gigawatt
will ever fininsh the server, but that is your only shot at a multi-player
FOF. I certainly don't have permission to compete with that project.

I was pretty sure we'd never see multiplayer in the FOF series.
