Omaha's Arévalo Chosen CL Batter of the Month

April's Batter of the Month has been announced by the Continental League. This month's trophy was presented to the Omaha second baseman, Cris Arévalo.

He starred by hitting .382 with a .481 on-base percentage, totaled 42 hits in 110 at-bats, 3 home runs, 18 RBIs and scored 24 runs.


Hsueh Gets RL Batter of the Month Trophy

Today En-lai Hsueh was voted Republic League Batter of the Month for May. During the month the 26-year-old Cleveland right fielder compiled a .371 batting average.

Most importantly for the Naps though, he also posted 6 home runs, 20 RBIs and 34 runs scored.

CL's Best Starter is Oshima

Veteran Narihira Oshima put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Washington Freedom, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Oshima racked up a 6-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 0.99 ERA over 45.2 innings and striking out 44.


Santos Earns April's Best Pitcher Honor

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Andrés Santos still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 30-year-old starter for Waikiki was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and 1 loss with 44 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 3.52 ERA in 38.1 innings of work.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

Júlio López earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Manchester left fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

López hit .337 with 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and 14 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.


RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Youngster Mike Holmes emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Cleveland deserved the honor, batting .404 with no home runs and 22 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Holmes enjoy the limelight.

López Wins CL's Best Bat Trophy

May's Batter of the Month has been chosen by the Continental League. This month's trophy was awarded to the Manchester left fielder, Júlio López.

He starred by hitting .371 with a .430 on-base percentage, totaled 36 hits in 97 at-bats, 8 home runs, 27 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

In 54 games this season López is batting .354 with 70 hits and 13 home runs. He has scored 38 runs and driven in 46.


Lucas Takes RL's Best Bat Trophy

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 29-year-old Skip Lucas put together a solid offensive month for Waikiki and was crowned May's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .408 with 13 home runs, 37 RBIs and 21 runs scored.



Lucas is hitting .355 this year with 20 home runs and 55 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .476, 46 walks and scored 37 times.

May's #1 Starter Named in CL

Ryan Ballam is the latest Continental League Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Washington starter stood out on the hill time and again last month and finished May with a sparkling 3-0 record.

In 5 starts last month, he fanned 37, walked 5 in 34.2 innings and posted a 1.30 ERA. Ballam held opposing teams to a .241 batting average when he was on the mound.

Ballam has posted a 5-2 record for the year with a 2.43 ERA. Teams are hitting .255 against him and he has rung up 68 strikeouts in 66.2 innings.


Gonzáles May's Best Hurler in RL

As Martín Gonzáles hoisted up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy for May, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Waikiki once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Gonzáles put pressure on the Beach Boys to keep him around by posting a 5-0 record and an ERA of 3.12 over 43.1 innings last month. He also rolled up 26 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Waikiki and to every other team in the league.

Looking at his season stats, Gonzáles has won 8 and lost 1, collecting 50 strikeouts and 18 walks in 79 innings with a 2.62 ERA.

Rookie Honored by Continental League

Júlio López's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Manchester left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .371 with 2 doubles, 3 triples and 8 home runs. López also scored 24 times and drove in 27 runs.

Looking at his season stats, López has compiled a .354 batting average and a .400 on-base percentage, while hitting 13 home runs and driving in 46 runs.


Portland Left Fielder May's Best Rookie

Ignacio Aguilar is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Portland hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .310 average with 27 hits, 4 home runs and 12 RBIs.

This year Aguilar has socked 55 hits in 168 at-bats for a .327 average with 5 home runs. He is getting on base at a .370 pace and his totals also include 20 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

CL Choice for Batter of the Month is López

Gabriel López got another reason to celebrate today as he followed up a great month of June at the plate by winning the Continental League Batter of the Month Award.

During the month, the Omaha right fielder hit .372 with 7 home runs, 27 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

This year López is hitting .330 with 11 home runs and 66 RBIs in 84 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .374 with 24 walks and 62 runs scored.


Hsueh Wins RL Batter of the Month

For the month of June, En-lai Hsueh of the Cleveland Naps has really worn out the sweet spot on his bat. He has assaulted, used and abused Republic League pitchers to the tune of a .376 batting average and was honored as the hottest hitter of the month today.

Hsueh went 41 for 109 last month with 14 walks. The right fielder tallied 6 home runs, 17 RBIs, 26 runs scored and compiled a .456 on-base percentage.

Looking at his present stats, Hsueh has compiled a .381 batting average in 83 games with a .472 on-base percentage, while hitting 15 home runs and driving in 57 runs.

Havana's Starter Receives CL Pitching Award

Ken Albert of the Havana Banana Sluggers strung a bunch of high quality starts together in June to earn the Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy.

For the month he finished with a superlative 4 wins and no losses and a 1.78 ERA. The Havana star started 5 games, pitched 35.1 innings and struck out 27.

Checking out his stats for the season, Albert has registered 7 wins and 5 losses in 16 starts, 3.95 ERA and struck out 74 batters in 95.2 innings.


Cleveland Starter June's Best Pitcher

It was a very good month for Juan Luna in June. The 35-year-old veteran starter for the Cleveland Naps outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Luna ran up a 5-1 record in his 7 starts during the month. In 47.2 innings he fanned 45 and recorded a 1.32 ERA.

This year Luna has worked 132.1 innings with 117 strikeouts en route to a 10-4 record and a 2.31 ERA.

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Júlio López just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 25-year-old left fielder for Manchester hit .296 with 29 hits, 5 home runs and 15 RBI. He also logged 6 walks and compiled a .343 on-base percentage.

Currently López is batting .334 with 18 home runs, 61 RBIs and 56 runs scored.


Dave Phillips Triumphs in RL Rookie Vote

In June, Dave Phillips piled up some solid numbers and walked off with the Rookie of the Month award in the Republic League.

Acevedo Brings Home CL Batter of Month Honor

Carlos Acevedo, the Havana shortstop, had a productive month in July. He put up some solid numbers with a .333 batting average (35 for 105), 6 home runs, 14 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

That standout offense earned him the Continental League Batter of the Month Trophy.

Currently Acevedo is batting .318 with 23 home runs and 63 RBIs.


July's RL Batter of Month Award Announced

Skip Lucas battered Republic League pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Lucas told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Lucas hit .320 with 10 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 20 runs.

This season Lucas has hit 41 home runs and posted a .332 batting average.

July's Best Starter Named in CL

Juan Martínez's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in July, the 30-year-old Omaha hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 26 in 34 innings, logged an ERA of 0.79 and allowed opponents to hit .230 against him.

For the season Martínez has compiled a 13-4 record with a 3.15 ERA.


Carter Selected RL's Best Pitcher

Tucker Carter certainly found a groove in July. The Las Vegas starter posted 6 wins last month to easily claim the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

During the month Carter was 6-0 with a 1.74 ERA. He made 6 starts, tossed 41.1 innings and had 33 strikeouts.

Presently Carter has a 13-5 mark in 22 starts with a 3.87 ERA. He has given up 121 hits in 130.1 innings, struck out 116 and issued 31 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .239 batting average against him.

Júlio López earned July's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Manchester left fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

López hit .356 with 3 home runs, 18 RBIs and 14 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

In 104 games this season López is batting .339 with 130 hits and 21 home runs. He has scored 70 runs and driven in 79.


RL Spotlight Shines on Rookie Star

Portland's Domingo Jaimes collected 28 hits to snare the Republic League Rookie of the Month for July.

He batted .326 with 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 9 runs scored.

The 20-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

Jaimes is hitting .276 this year with 5 home runs and 37 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .312, 17 walks and scored 36 times.

There was nobody finer on the mound in August and Travis House cruised to the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today.

He was 4-0 with a 0.97 ERA while piling up 28 strikeouts in 37 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .209 batting average.

This year House has a 12-6 record with a 2.55 ERA.


Nicholas Grabs RL Top Pitcher Trophy

When Dave Nicholas takes the mound, a Waikiki victory is usually the result. At least that's the way it was in August.

That's why the Beach Boys starter was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.
