R.I.P. Patrice O'Neal

One of the smartest and funniest comedians I've ever seen. His roast of Charlie Sheen was only the tip of the iceberg, he was hysterically funny and poignant. I cannot believe he's gone.

I'm sad to say I didn't even know about his stroke last month. Sucks.

Damn, second time someone makes a death joke on the roast, and the comedian dies.

I realize this is probably obvious, but who is the other one?

Hmmm. I watched that roast and it was pretty damn funny. Didn't realize that he had died though.

I am clearly not up with random comedian death watch.

I watched the roast via Netflix Instant, and to be honest a lot of death based jokes were tossed around. I thought he did a good job in it. A number of people who I expected little, or knew nothing about did better than expected. I thought Jeff Ross was the best. Him and Greg Giraldo have been amazing at doing some of the roast.

Yeah, but most of them are aimed at the George Hamilton/William Shatner types on the dais, not necessarily the comedians themselves.

I'd never heard of Patrice until I saw him on the roast (although he does look familiar from those I Love the... shows, but I don't specifically remember him for that), but the thing that impressed me the most about him was that he seemed to be the most off-the-cuff, honest person riffing at the roast. Everyone else had these prepared jokes they were reading, and he looked like he rolled out of bed, jumped up on stage, and just started talking and being as honest (and funny) as possible. I was impressed.

Same here. He and Jeff Ross were easily the funniest ones there.

I got to know who Patrice was listening to Opie & Anthony during my morning drive to work. I never saw him on TV or video, but thought he was absolutely hilarious. He also spoke on a number of different subjects that would make you laugh and think.

The scariest thing for me is just how young he was. Shit!

I didn't really care for Patrice O'Neal's bit on the Charlie Sheen roast at all (it just didn't make me laugh), but I found him very funny outside of that. Now he's dead. Almost all of the stand-up comedians I really like are dead. If Kathy Griffin dies anytime soon, I'm pretty much just going to jump off a bridge into lake fuck.

Patrice O'Neal was hysterical, though I was never amazed with his Roast work. The stuff he did on Tough Crowd was amazing though. Fucking A, I miss that show.

Wait...Kathy Griffin is supposed to be funny? Outside of funny looking, I mean?

Yes, he was awesome on Tough Crowd. I had forgotten about that show. You are absolutely right.
