I'm officially a "Daddy"

now, I've been a father for 19 glorious months now. But, tonight, my wife and son came in to pick me up at work. I was at my desk, Graham stumbled into my row, saw me, and exclaimed "DADDY" at the top of his lungs and ran to me.

FINALLY!

he knows several words so far ("cookie" was his first), and he's been saying "mommy" for months (he wakes up in the morning and calls out from his crib "mommmmmmeeeeeeeeeee"). and he's repeated "daddy" a few times for me, but this is the first time that he's said it where I KNEW that he was talking about me...

that was a few hours ago, and I'm still grinning...

I get tingles everytime my girlfriend calls me Daddy. I spank her again and smile on the inside.

You taught your goat to say "daddy"? You should send a tape to Letterman's "Stupid Pet Tricks."

My first one didn't do it with the right context until around his second B-day. My youngest started a couple weeks before turning one. Funny how they can be so different.

My younger niece called her father "mommy" for several weeks, but has finally figured out that he responds better to daddy...

Very Very cool indeed.

The first "I love you" is a big one too, but an excited "Daddy" is hard to beat.

congrats DD, amazing feeling huh. Wait till he tries explaining to you, with words he doesn't really understand, that this "blah-blah-mon" (whatever the word will be when your son is 4 or 5) is good at doing this or that but that other one is better because of this or that...

Hey, I get that from my youngest sometimes too (just turned 18 mos).

My son was funny with this...for a while, he would point to just about any man he saw and blurt out "daddy". Embarrassed the heck out of my wife. He did the same but to a lesser extent with women and "mommy".
