Both league leaders having gone 3-7 in their last 10 games are looking to make the final 10 days of the season pretty exciting

Raúl Ruíz Hits #500
Thursday, September 28th, 2073: "I wasn't trying to hit a homer. I just wanted to make contact."
That's what Raúl Ruíz told reporters after he made baseball history today at Constitution Plaza. The prolific slugger belted home run #500 in the St Louis Hops 8-6 victory over the Stafford Terriers.

The standout first baseman collected 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.

"I guess this puts me in baseball's elite," said Ruíz. "I don't feel any different. I probably should, but I don't. Still, it is a nice achievement. I did get a little excited, didn't I?"

Lifetime Ruíz has hit .311 with 2984 hits, 500 home runs, 1907 RBIs and scored 1672 runs.

Las Vegas's Tom Bates has perhaps the best season that a starting pitcher has had in FOOL-X history.

Bates destroys the record for single season ERA with a 1.62, beating Kurt Rich's previous record of 1.71

Bates also sets new single season records for Opponent Slug pct and opponent OPS this season!

Unfortunately for Bates, Las Vegas averaged under 3 runs a game of support, and he finishes with a 13-9 record. It will be interesting to see if the award voters select him for the Morales award despite the low number of wins.

According to ERA+, Bates had the 9th best season of any pitcher in league history.

(note: ERA+ neutralizes league and ballpark stats, so compares pitchers vs other pitchers in the league with all things being equal. It strives to remove pitcher or hitter parks from the picture as well as remove dead ball or live ball eras as well.)
