Thumbs up I actually bought a CD Single! (which one?)

I did a rare thing yesterday, when I opened the ol' pursestrings and bought a CD single, the first single I've bought since...hmm, when did The Reflex come out on 45? Actually, that's not quite true, I guess I also bought cassette singles of Phil Collins' version of You Can't Hurry Love, Turn this Mutha Out, and Channel Z (can't remember what the A side was).

Anyhow, this is a song which I heard in its entirety by downloading it first. I don't know if I would have bought it otherwise. I will also likely buy the album, now that I see Best Buy is carrying a lot of new releases for $9.99 (I don't buy full albums very often either - I think the last 3 were Reload, The Power and the Glory, and Space Ghost's Surf & Turf.

Any guesses as to what the single was? We can do it in 20Q format if anyone's up for it.

Wow, congrats!

And based on your history of purchases i'm gonna take a shot in the dark and guess the new Marilyn Manson?

I don't even know what your musical tastes are.

I'll wager a guess though: Siegfried and Roy's "Never Hit a Tiger with a Microphone"

Joe Strummer and the Mescaleroes are putting out a couple singles for their newest (and sadly, last) album... i'll probably go out and pick all of those up. Granted i'm a huge Joe Strummer fan and i can't wait to hear what he was working on when he died. I'm sure it will be an incredibly sad listen

That's why I proposed doing it as a 20 Questions.

I'd like to see the other songs on that Siegfried and Roy album

"What is This Accent Anyway?"
"Where's That Tranquilizer Gun When You Need It?"
"It's Good to be The Gay"

and oddly enough a cover of "Enter Sandman".

I'll bite:

Q1: Is the song from a hard rock artist?

And maybe a remake of "Eye of the Tiger"

Q1: No.

Was the remix done by Paul Oakenfold?

No, that would be JXL But yes, that song did influence me to buy ELV1S 30 #1 Hits, I just didn't list it because I don't have it yet (inefficient school fundraisers.....).

Hmm, not familiar with Enigma.

I'm guessing Nyarlahotep was joking with his guess of A Little Less Conversation, and actually knew it was Rubberneckin', also by Elvis (if not....well, that's the answer anyway).

So I go years without buying a single, and then when I do it's from an artist who's been dead for 26 years (says something either about my tastes or the music industry). I was going to buy the CD as Best Buy had advertised it at $9.99, but it isn't out until tomorrow (grrr.....). But the single has 3 versions of Rubberneckin', including the original, so it was still a good pickup. The beginning of the the 12" Extended Remix sounds remarkably like the beginning of Apollo 440's Stop the Rock, but I won't complain as I like that song too (my wife has pointed out that I am a sucker for songs used in car commercials. She's right).

Semi-OT...

If you like songs from car/shoe commercials...it's quiz time...

current Oasis guitarist Andy Bell used to be in two different bands in the 90's. Two songs by those bands have been featured in recent Volkswagen and Nike commercials. Name the bands and the songs...

Answers forthcoming after it's proven no one has any interest in this besides myself

Hmm, the only Volkswagen commercial song I can remember is that "Da da da" song. I'm drawing a blank for Nike as well.

Hmm, a quick search shows that Andy Bell was in Erasure...has anyone used The Hourglass?

Wrong Andy Bell. I know the bands, but I don't pay enough attenetion to commercials to know the songs.

Ok...Andy Bell was an original member of Ride in the early 90's...the song "Chrome Waves" was featured in a Nike commerical not too long ago - the one where it showed girls doing all sorts of sports things (Mia Hamm kicking a soccer ball, etc.). The 2nd song was from his band Hurricane #1 (late 90's), the song was "Step Into My World" and was featured in a Volkswagen Bug commercial.

As you can see, I stopped loving music about 5-10 years ago .

Actually...I think the night I stopped loving music was the same night the Fat Boys broke up. Still gets me all misty-eyed...
