As we get ready to enter February 2011, I'm sure the recruits would like to see their players cards, so let's take a look.

Ugh... my struggles are causing the team to struggle. Kuji will get it together, boys. Don't worry.

Jan. 31-Feb. 6, 2011
Feb. 2- Duquesne @ Temple -- The Owls got a much needed conference win, as they handled Duquesne 87-74. As per usual, no action for Dave O'Shea. Feb. 2- Boston College @ Clemson -- The Tigers rallied from a first half deficit to win 72-66, as Kuji Chagulia had 13 points on 6-12 shooting. Feb. 2- #21 Kansas @ Iowa St. -- The Jayhawks laid an egg tonight, as they gave up 65 first half points and trailed by 31 at halftime. They eventually lost 104-60. Jace Hunter, even with the blowout loss, still saw no action. Feb. 2- #23 Illinois @ #1 Wisconsin -- A huge upset tonight, as the Illini shocked the Badgers 88-78. It was a good news, bad news night for Mike Schaplowsky. The good news: he scored 17 points on 5-8 shooting and 7-7 from the line. The bad news: 5 turnovers against just 1 assist. Feb. 2- #15 Indiana @ #4 Michigan St. -- The Spartans hung tough tonight and beat Indiana 92-87. Will Brown got another start, and scored 12 points on 4-7 shooting and 4-4 from the line. Feb. 2- BYU @ San Diego St. -- The Aztecs got a much needed win as well, handling BYU 83-63. Tom Steele became the second of our recruits to threaten a transfer if he didn't get more PT, as he got none tonight. Feb. 5- Temple @ UMass -- It was an easy win tonight for the Owls, as they cruised 86-65. And we saw a Dave O'Shea sighting. He was in mop-up duty playing the final minute, but had no relevant stats to speak of. Feb. 5- Clemson @ North Carolina -- Despite only getting 6 points from Kuji Chagulia, the Tigers won their second in a row, 77-71. Feb. 5- Nebraska @ #21 Kansas -- The Jayhawks barely hung on to beat Nebraska 68-66, as Jace Hunter was actionless again. Feb. 5- Iowa @ #23 Illinoia -- The Illini fell short of the 100 mark, but routed Iowa 98-60. A much better game for Mike Schaplowsky, who had 12 points, 6 assists, and just 1 turnover. Feb. 5- #4 Michigan St. @ Northwestern -- The Spartans stayed hot, beating Northwestern 85-72. Will Brown fouled out of this game after 17 minutes of action. He scored 8 points on just 4-10 shooting. Feb. 5- San Diego St. @ Santa Clara -- The Aztecs travled out of conference tonight, but the result was still good. They won 78-63, and Tom Steele's plea for playing time was apparently ignored. |

Feb. 7-13, 2011
Feb. 7- #22 Kansas @ #21 Oklahoma St. -- The Jayhawks continued to struggle, as they trailed by 17 at halftime. They got the deficit all the way down to 2, but that's as close as they would get in a 90-88 loss. Again no action for Jace Hunter. Feb. 8- San Diego St. @ #19 UNLV -- It was a gallant effort that fell just short tonight for the Aztecs, as they fell 81-78 and Tom Steele continued to ride the pine. Feb. 9- Xavier @ Temple -- The Owls continued to roll, as they won 84-73, but no action for Dave O'Shea. Feb. 9- Miami @ Clemson -- The Tigers win their third straight conference game in a row, in convincing fashion 83-48. Kuji Chagulia scored 15 points on 7-14 shooting. Feb. 9- Ohio St. @ #4 Michigan St. -- The Spartans forced 21 turnovers and only committed 5 as they won 76-62. Will Brown had a nice night with 17 points on 8-17 shooting. Feb. 9- #17 Illinois @ Northwestern -- The Illini struggled tonight, but did enough to beat Northwestern 78-74. Mike Schaplowsky had 9 points on 4-12 shooting, and also added 3 assists with no turnovers. Feb. 12- Dayton @ Temple -- The Owls hung on to win tonight, 79-74. No action for Dave O'Shea. Feb. 12- Clemson @ Wake Forest -- The Tigers winning streak came to an end tonight, as they fell 90-80. Kuji Chagulia scored 11 points on 3-8 shooting and 4-4 from the line. Feb. 12- Missouri @ #22 Kansas -- A solid effort from the Jayhawks tonight as they handle Missouri 78-48. Still no action for Jace Hunter. Feb. 12- #4 Michigan St. @ #17 Illinois -- The Illini got revenge as they hung on to beat the Spartans 83-77. Will Brown led the Spartans in scoring with 15 points on 7-14 shooting and 1-1 from the line. Mike Schaplowsky scored 12 points for the Illini on 6-10 shooting. He didn't have any assists or turnovers but did have 6 assists. Feb. 12- TCU @ San Diego St. -- The Aztecs were only down 5 at halftime, but ended up losing 73-53. No action for Tom Steele. |

Feb. 14-20, 2011
Feb. 14- #23 Kansas @ Oklahoma -- The second Big Monday game in a row for the Jayhawks, who rallied to win 86-78. 13 players played for Kansas, but Jace Hunter was not one of them. Feb. 15- Utah @ San Diego St. -- The Aztecs fought hard all the way and almost pulled off the upset, but fell short, 72-69. No action for Tom Steele. Feb. 16- Temple @ George Washington -- I think the Owls forgot to show up tonight, as they were outclassed, losing 78-48. Dave O'Shea logged 1 minute of action tonight, and had no stats to speak of. Feb. 16- N.C. State @ Clemson -- The Tigers won this game tonight, 65-62, but they did it without the help of an ineffective Kuji Chagulia, who scored just 4 points on 2-6 shooting. Feb. 16- #3 Michigan St. @ #1 Wisconsin -- Another top 5 showdown that didn't disspoint. Unfortunately the Spartans fell short, 83-74. Will Brown kept his starting role and scored 10 points. Feb. 16- #16 Illinois @ Ohio St. -- The Illini stayed hot, winning a close game, 72-69. Mike Schaplowsky had 12 points, 1 assist, and 2 turnovers. Feb. 19- LaSalle @ Temple -- A nice win for the Owls, as they got back to business, 73-62. No action tonight for Dave O'Shea. Feb. 19- Clemson @ Virginia Tech -- The Tigers struggled tonight, losing 75-59. Kuji Chagulia had another tough game, scoring just 8 points on 3-6 shooting and 1-1 from the line. Feb. 19- #19 Iowa St. @ #23 Kansas -- The Jayhawks kept on rolling in a big way, 94-70. Still not one minute of action for Jace Hunter. I'm sure he'll be transferring in the offseason. Feb. 19- Purdue @ #3 Michigan St. -- The Spartans got back to business after a couple tough losses, winning 95-76. Will Brown scored 6 points on 3-5 shooting. Feb. 19- Michigan @ #16 Illinois -- Illinois had to rally from a 12 point halftime deficit to win 76-73. Mike Schaplowsky scored 10 points, and had 2 assists and 2 turnovers tonight. Feb. 19- San Diego St. @ New Mexico -- So close for the Aztecs, who drop another heartbreaker, 82-81. Again no action for Tom Steele. |

Feb. 21-27
Feb. 21- Texas Tech @ #18 Kansas -- The Jayhawks rolled to a 76-62victory in their third straight Big Monday game. As per usual, no action for Jace Hunter. Feb. 22- San Diego St. @ Colorado St. -- The Aztecs finally got off their slide, winning 73-61, but no action for Tom Steele. Feb. 23- Temple @ Fordham -- The Owls dominated tonight, winning 78-42. Surprisingly, Dave O'Shea saw no action. I would have expected him to get at least a minute. Feb. 23- Clemson @ Virginia -- The Tigers, already on the bubble, don't help their cause tonight by losing 63-51. Kuji Chagulia was 5-8 with 1 three pointer for 11 points. Feb. 23- #3 Michigan St. @ Penn St. -- The Spartans rolled tonight, winning 79-52. Will Brown scored 8 points on 4-11 shooting, and also had 8 rebounds. Feb. 23- #11 Illinois @ Minnesota -- The Illini, on the verge of being in the top 10, were upset tonight 75-66. It was an awful game for Mike Schaplowsky, as he scored 3 points on 1-2 shooting, 1-1 from the line, had just 2 assists, and 3 turnovers. Feb. 26- Temple @ St. Bonaventure -- The Owls used 57.1% shooting to win 77-65, but no action for Dave O'Shea. Feb. 26- Florida St. @ Clemson -- A much needed win for the Tigers, as they dominated 74-56. Kuji Chagulia scored 10 points on 4-10 shooting and 2-3 from the line. Feb. 26- #18 Kansas @ Texas -- The Jayhawks lost the battle of the boards, and the game tonight, as they were outrebounded 45-30 and lost the game 95-89. Jace Hunter didn't even suit up tonight. Feb. 26- Iowa @ #3 Michigan St. -- This one took OT to complete, and the Spartans were upset 73-71. Will Brown, in the losing effort, dominated tonight, with 21 points on 7-16 shooting and 7-11 from the line. Feb. 26- #10 Indiana @ #11 Illinois -- The Illini were all over this battle of ranked teams, winning 70-47. Mike Schaplowsky missed his only attempted from the field but hit both his free throws for 2 points. He also had 3 assists, but 4 turnovers. Feb. 26- Air Force @ San Diego St. -- The Aztecs again fell short tonight, losing 56-52. Tom Steele sat the bench all game. |

As we enter March, lets take a look at where our teams stand.
Clemson (Kuji Chagulia)- As far as the conference goes, it's wide open at this point. They are 7-7 in conference, in a 4 way tie for 6th. Only one game out of a tie for 3rd, and only 2 games out of 2nd. In order to get second, they'd have win both their remaining conference games and get a lot of help. Realisically, the Tigers should finish anywhere between third and seventh. They can finish no worse than seventh. Overall they are 16-11 and their postseason destination is also wide open. Temple (Tom Steele)- Despite the 21-8 overall record, the Owls are on the bubble. Projected right now to be in. They are in a tie for second right now with a 10-4 conference record, and can still win the Atlantic Ten regular season championship. They'll finish anywhere between first and eighth. Kansas (Jace Hunter)- The Jayhawks are also 21-8 and considered a lock for the NCAA tournament. With their 9-5 conference record, they are tied for third right now. They can finish anywhere between first and seventh. Michigan St. (Will Brown)- The Spartans are also a lock for the NCAA Tournament, holding a 25-6 overall record, and a 12-5 record. That ties them for second, but their final positions are limited. Wisconsin has already clinched the regular season Big Ten title, and that means the Spartans can do no better than second. The way it is shaping up, Michigan St. will either be second, third, or fourth. Illinois (Mike Schaplowsky)- As far as the conference goes, Illinois is also 12-5in the conference, and are also guaranteed either a second, third, or fourth place finish. Their 22-8 record should be a lock for the NCAA tournament, but a loss in their final regular season game and opening Big Ten Tournament game could relegate them to the NIT. San Diego St. (Tom Steele)- The Aztecs are the worst of the 6 teams, holding an 11-15 overall record, and a 4-10 conference record. The only way they will see postseason play is to win the Mountain West tournament, but they will be a very low seed, either seventh, eighth, or ninth. |

March 1- Wyoming @ San Diego St. -- The Aztecs got a huge win tonight, 85-77. No action tonight for Tom Steele. March 2- Rhode Island @ Temple -- It was a double dose of good news tonight, as not only did the Owls win 86-74, but there was a Dave O'Shea sighting of longer than a minute. He played 5 minutes tonight, and scored 5 points on 2-4 shooting, including a trey. March 2- #3 Duke @ Clemson -- This one was UGLY, as Duke rolled to a 60-23 halftime lead, and it was all she wrote for the Tigers, who fell 94-46. Kuji Chagulia was 2-8 from the field and 2-2 from the line for 6 points in the dismal effort. March 2- Colorado @ #21 Kansas -- This was an outstanding game, but unfortunately the Jayhawks fell short, 78-77. No action for Jace Hunter. March 2- Penn St. @ #15 Illinois -- The Illini took care of business tonight, winning 88-80. Mike Schaplowsky scored 9 points, but only had 1 assist to go with 2 turnovers. March 5- Temple @ Richmond -- The Owls got another big win tonight, 75-67. Dave O'Shea didn't see any action. March 5- Clemson @ Georgia Tech -- The Tigers won 90-82, but the story of the game was Kuji Chagulia, who came off the bench for the first time in his college career. He responded with an average night of 12 points on 5-11 shooting. March 5- #21 Kansas @ Kansas St. -- The Jayhawks got revenge for an earlier loss by hanging on against K-State, 73-72. No action tonight for Jace Hunter. March 5- Michigan @ #6 Michigan St. -- The Spartans finished off the regular season with a win, 63-55. Will Brown scored 9 points on 4-10 shooting and 1-2 from the line. March 5- San Diego St. @ BYU -- The Aztecs fell apart tonight, as they only trailed by 3 at halftime but ended up losing 92-73. No action for Tom Steele. |

Here is a look at where our teams ended up as we head into the conference tournaments.
Clemson (Kuji Chagulia)- The Tigers sputtered in conference play, finishing 8-8in the ACC. This is good for the seventh seed in the ACC tournament, where they'll open up against Miami. Temple (Dave O'Shea)- The Owls shared the Atlantic Ten championship with Dayton, after both teams finished 12-4 in conference. Temple gets the #1 seed in the tournament due to tiebreakers (whatever they are), and will face the Charlotte/Rhode Island winner in the quarterfinals. Kansas (Jace Hunter)- The Jayhawks finished 10-6 in conference and will get a first round bye as the #3 seed, taking on the Kansas St./Texas Tech winner. Michigan St. (Will Brown) and Illinois (Mike Schaplowsky) - Both teams finished 13-5 in the standings, and tied for second place. Michigan St. gets the 2 seed and a first round bye, taking on the Ohio St./Penn St. winner in the quarterfinals. Illinois gets a first round bye as the 3 seed, getting the Iowa/Northwestern winner in the quarterfinals. San Diego St. (Tom Steele)- The Aztecs finished 5-11 in conference and tied for seventh with TCU. Since TCU swept the season series, San Diego St. gets the eighth seed and a first round game against Colorado St., who they beat twice in the season. |

Conference Tournament First Round Mountain West (9) Colorado St. vs. (8) San Diego St. -- The Aztecs had handled Colorado St. twice in the regular season, and did so again tonight, picking up a 77-55 win, advancing to the quarterfinals to take on top seed UNLV. March 10, 2011 Confrence Tournament First Round ACC (10) Miami vs. (7) Clemson -- Kuji Chagulia scored a team high 14 points tonight, and the Tigers needed every one of them. Clemson won by the smallest of margins, 68-67, to advance to the quarterfinals where they will take on 2nd seed North Carolina. Conference Tournament Quarterfinals Big Twelve (6) Kansas St. vs. (3) Kansas -- These teams split their 2 regular season meetings, so this would be deemed the rubber match. And like the other 2, it was a classic. The Jayhawks survived though to win 81-75 and advance to the semifinals. Mountain West (8) San Diego St. vs. (1) #19 UNLV -- The Aztecs weren't quite ready for their season to be over, as they held UNLV to just 33.9% shooting and upset the Rebels 65-56, advancing to the semifinals. Conference Tournament Quarterfinals Atlantic Ten (8) Charlotte vs. (1) Temple -- The Owls trailed by 9 at halftime and fell tonight, 92-84, but should still be a lock for the NCAA tournament. Dave O'Shea did not play. ACC (7) Clemson vs. (2) North Carolina -- It took overtime, but the Tigers may have played their way into an at-large berth, as they stunned Carolina 87-81. Kuji Chagulia scored 12 points on 5-9, shooting, but also contributed 4 rebounds and 6 assists. He did have 4 turnovers however. Big Ten (7) Ohio St. vs. (2) #5 Michigan St. -- Will Brown scored a game high 18 points on an almost perfect shooting night: 7-9 from the field and 4-5 from the line. The Spartans advanced to the semifinals with a 58-48 win. (6) Iowa vs. (3) #13 Illinois -- The Illini rolled tonight, setting up a semifinal match with the Spartans, as they won 72-54. Mike Schaplowsky missed all 3 of his shots and didn't score, but did have 4 assists. Conference Tournament Semifinals Big Twelve (3) Kansas vs. (2) #23 Iowa St. -- The Jayhawks were eliminated tonight, as they never could get going, losing 81-65. No action as expected for Jace Hunter. Mountain West (8) San Diego St. vs. (4) BYU -- The Aztecs kept the dream alive and got sweet revenge, knocking off BYU in the late seconds, 70-68. Unfortunately Tom Steele saw no action. |

Conference Tournament Semifinals ACC (7) Clemson vs. (3) Virginia -- The Tigers saw their run end tonight, as they fell short, 63-56. Kuji Chagulia had a team high 13 points for Clemson in the losing effort, who will be watching intently on Selection Sunday. Big Ten (3) #13 Illinois vs. (2) #5 Michigan St. -- This was another Big Ten classic, and it was won 74-66 by the Illini, as they advance to the Big Ten Championship. The Spartans are still a lock for the tournament, and will probably be a 2 or 3 seed. Mike Schaplowsky had 6 points and 2 assists with no turnovers for Illinois, while Will Brown had a cold night, shooting just 4-14 from the field and 3-5 from the line for 11 points. Conference Tournament Championship Mountain West (8) San Diego St. vs. (3) Wyoming -- The Aztecs completed the cinderella story tonight, beating Wyoming 72-61 to win the Mountain West tournament and steal an automatic bid. In doing so, they have taken an at-large bid away from somebody. Possibly Clemson? We'll find out tomorrow. Tom Steele enjoyed the ride from the bench. |

Conference Tournament Championship Big Ten (3) #13 Illinois vs. (1) #1 Wisconsin -- This was a classic game, as Illinois led by 3 at halftime but couldn't hang on, losing late to Wisconsin, 60-58. Mike Schaplowsky had 8 points tonight on 3-4 shooting and 2-2from the line, and just 1 assist, but no turnovers. So the conference tournaments are over, and lets check on the status of postseason for our 6 recruits on their teams. Kansas (Jace Hunter) nabbed the #9 seed in the West region of the NCAA tournament, and they will take on Maryland in the first round. Michigan St. (Will Brown) and San Diego St. (Tom Steele) landed as the #2 and #15 seeds, respectively, in the West Region of the NCAA tournament. They will obviously play each other in the first round. Illinois (Mike Schaplowsky) took the #3 seed in the East Region of the NCAA tournament, and they will take on Iona in the first round. Both Clemson and Temple were snubbed, and will be headed to the NIT tournament. Clemson (Kuji Chagulia) gets the #3 seed in the West Region. They will face my alma mater Wichita St. in the first round. Sorry Kuji, but I have to stay true to my Shockers. Temple (Dave O'Shea) gets the #1 seed in the Midwest Region, taking on IUPUI in the first round. |

As for our recruits next year, they might like to know where their teams are going for postseason play.
Nick Wadden (Illinois) knows where his team is going, as he will be joining Mike Schaplowsky next year. Jaquaan Rain (Colorado St.) probably figures his team is done for the season with their 6-25 record. Let's take a look at the other 4 schools and recruits: Tennessee (Eric Anderson) is the #2 seed in the NIT South Region, taking on Winthrop in the first round. LSU (Deacon Palmer) is the #1 seed in the NIT West Region taking on Coppin St. in the first round. Washington (Jason McDowell) is the #8 seed in the CBI, and they'll take on Seattle in an interesting first round game. Hofstra (Dean Hoo) had a 14-19 record, not good enough to make the postseason. |

Mr. Steele, your Aztecs are the 15th seed, facing 2nd seed Michigan St. in the first round of the West Region. Good luck! Hey maybe your team will get beat so bad that you'll get a chance to play!

The NIT is not bad, considering how we played in the ACC. Let's go, Tigers! Oh, and thanks for all the work you put into this.

Oh, you're right about our seed. I was so excited about winning my conference tourney that I skipped over post #70. And yeah, I'm hoping for a blowout so I can get some garbage time.

Sorry bbgunn, I'm Wichita St. true and through. I'm actually enjoying how well they are doing this season for real, and hope they can keep it up. As for this dynasty, I was surprised Clemson got snubbed, I thought they did enough to make the NCAA. And thanks, so far I'm enjoying this a lot more than I did my first 2 efforts. I'm glad for all the interaction and responses I've gotten, I just wish I could get more sign-ups, and more followers involved. I may have to let some of you guys take a second recruit while your first recruit is still playing, just so I can have some recruits for seasons 4and on. But that is 2 seasons down the road, and hopefully it will draw more interest by then.
Analbum, it's no problem man. Glad to see you following along. I was shocked to see SDSU run the tables in the Mountain West tournament, especially the way they played during the conference season. I'm still not understanding why some of you recruits didn't redshirt, I guess maybe I have to set it up manually. All of us should get more PT next year though. |

NIT First Round Midwest Region -- (8) IUPUI @ (1) Temple -- The Owls jumped to a 16 point halftime lead and hung on to win 73-63 to advance in the NIT. Dave O'Shea did not play. March 17, 2011 NIT First Round West Region -- (6) Wichita St. @ (3) Clemson -- The good news for Clemson: They held the Shockers to 23 second half points. The bad news: They gave up 62 first half points and trailed 62-44 at halftime. The final result: an 85-81 Tiger loss, ending their season. Kuji Chagulia scored 11points on just 3-9 shooting, and 4-5 from the field, in the losing effort. March 18, 2011 NCAA Tournament First Round West Region -- (15) San Diego St. vs. (2) #5 Michigan St. -- This was a far better game than most probably gave the Aztecs credit for. They kept close all game, but in the end, Michigan St. survived, 73-63, ending the Aztec season. A great cinderella run for the Aztecs just to make the NCAA tournament however. Tom Steele did not play for the Aztecs, while Will Brown scored a game high 17 points on 8-10 shooting, but was just 1-4 from the line. West Region -- (9) Maryland vs. (8) Kansas -- The Jayhawks season came to an end tonight as they just didn't have enough firepower, and lost 77-67. Look for Jace Hunter to transfer, as the Jayhawks did not redshirt him, and he did not play 1 minute the entire season. East Region -- (14) Iona vs. (3) #13 Illinois -- Mike Schaplowsky set a career high in scoring with 19 points on 6-10 shooting and 7-7 from the line, and had 2 assists in a winning effort. The Illini won 93-79. NIT Second Round West Region -- (4) Arizona @ (1) Temple -- The Owls advanced to the West Region Finals with a 71-58 victory, and Dave O'Shea logged 2 minutes of action. He had 1 rebound in those 2 minutes. March 20, 2011 NCAA Tournament Second Round West Region -- (7) #19 Arizona St. vs. (2) #5 Michigan St. -- The Spartans were not ready to play tonight and it cost them dearly. For the second straight year they bow out early, this time in convincing fashion, 79-54. Will Brown finished the season with 11 points on 4-14 shooting and 3-4 from the line. East Region -- (6) #17 Iowa St. vs. (3) #13 Illinois -- This was a great game, as the Illini jumped out to a 47-21 lead and then had to hold off a late Cyclone comeback, but they held off to win 81-74 and advance to the sweet sixteen. Mike Schaplowsky scored 9 points on 4-7 shooting, including a trey. He also had 2 assists, but 3 turnovers. |

NCAA Tournament Regional Semifinals West Region -- (7) Louisville vs. (3) #13 Illinois -- Once again the Illini jumped out to a big lead and had to hang on to win. They lead 52-28 at halftime and had to hang on for dear life, but survived 73-70. Mike Schaplowsky had a perfect night from the field, with 3-3 and 1 of those being a trey. NIT Quarterfinals Midwest Region -- (6) Wyoming @ (1) Temple -- The Owls ended their season tonight, with a 70-59 loss, as they were never really in this game. Dave O'Shea ended the season on a good note, as he played 3 minutes, hit a three pointer, and 2 free throws for 5 points. March 26, 2011 NCAA Tournament Regional Final East Region -- (3) #13 Illinois vs. (1) #2 Pittsburgh -- The Illini are the final team of our 6 recruits teams to still be playing, and they ended their season tonight. The Panthers led from start to finish, beating Illinois 90-69. Mike Schaplowsky ended his freshman season with 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. |

Nice starting to see some minutes. Hopefully we had some graduations in front of me so I can get more time.
This is a great ride! Thanks! |
