Howling at the moon Husky-style (2004 Northern Illinois TCY dynasty)
This will be a TCY/FOF 2004 Dynasty that will follow the careers of any Northern Illinois alumni that make it to the next level. My ground rules are as follows:
• I will use the I formation offense. The defense will likely be the 46 defense, as we want to concentrate on stopping the run and pressuring the QB. • I take care of recruiting, the offensive game plan, and hiring/firing assistants. My assistants take care of everything else. • Initially, I’ll only recruit prospects within a 200-mile radius of Chicago, Illinois, focusing mainly on the Chicago Public League schools. If we win at least 6 games in a season, I’ll increase it by 50 miles per win over six. • The Solecismic Eight will be in North Carolina (Crystal Coast Conference). • Game setting will be on Starting Lineup (I am a relative novice to this game. • Recruits must have an SAT of 1100, and GPA of 3.00. • In any recruiting class, I can only sign 6 recruits from the outside of the greater Chicagoland area. The remainder must come from the city. I have a lot of rebuilding to do, the team will be young and recruiting will not be easy this year coming off a mediocre Season. My Goal for 2004 will be to finish 6-5 and hopefully land a Bowl bid to restore some prestige to the program. Last edited by Dolemite73 : 01-18-2010 at 08:19 PM. |

Let's meet the staff
Syndicate Coordinator
Marco Chen, 44 Very Good at academic eligibility, poor at soliciting donations, and Good at syndicate investigation. Not bad for a syndicate coordinator at NIU. Offensive Coordinator Bryan Duggar, 39 His strengths are with the WR, OL, K and with rehabilitation from injuries and Congeniality. He is poor with QB’s and terrible with injuries. Defensive Coordinator Leland Pearce, 37 His strengths are with the LBs, DL’s and Congeniality. However, he is terrible with DB’s, Playcalling and Rehab. Due to our recruiting radius, the following may be our two most important scouts: Great Lakes Scout Victor Pogue, 36 Very strong scout! His only weakness is QB’s. He is very strong everywhere else. Mid West Scout Kelly Schwartz, 36 I will be replacing this guy next year. He is Lousy or terrible in all positions except QB’s. Overall, I am happy with my staff. They seem like good guys and the kids love them. Last edited by Dolemite73 : 01-18-2010 at 07:09 PM. |

Here is a look at the NIU 2004 schedule. Home games are in BLUE:
Code:
2004 Outlook - Nothing too deadly. I play Toledo and Bowling Green in DeKalb this year, which should really be in my favor. Out of the last 4 games, 3 of them will be on the road, so this should test our mettle. I could honestly see us getting to 7 or 8 wins if things shake out right. 2004 Week 1
Bye Week Record Overall 0-0 MAC South 0-0 Passing N/A Rushing N/A Receiving N/A Defense N/A Recap N/A Injuries None Recruiting Visits None Commits None As I see it my recruiting priorities are in this order: QB, RB, TE, WR, C, DE, DT, ILB, OLB, CB, P and K. The #1 OLB in the state (Dave Vos, 60/100) seems really interested in coming to DeKalb. Academics are his main concern and I seem to meet his needs there. Also targeting the #1 QB in the state (Erik Bach, 73/100). Getting him would be a coup. Also made a few more calls and trying to arrange some visits. Next weeks Schedule Northern Illinois at #27 Maryland Asheville at Western Michigan Bowling Green at #2 Oklahoma Boston College at Ball State Buffalo at Eastern Michigan Central Michigan at Indiana Toledo at Minnesota Maryland is going to be tough to deal with. Their best unit is their beastly Defensive line and seeing how we are a power running team, this will not bode well for us. Bowling Green has som moxie going to Norman to take on the #2 Sooners. Fairly tough schedule out of the chute for the MAC South. |

The Huskies running attack was non-existant running for a grand total of -11 yards on 24 attempts. Maryland's dual threat QB Alfred Newsome shredded the Husky defense for 3 TD's in the air while rushing for 110 yards on the ground with another TD. The only bright spot all day was a spectacular 95 yard interception retun for a TD by CB Tony Marshall. QB Jake Lewis was effective while he was in, but when the route was on, luckily we pulled him to prevent an injury. Hopefully we can bounce back next week. Injuries Antonion Schulters S Hyperextended Knee 4 Weeks Steve Robbins OLB Questionable Influenza 3 Weeks Recruiting Visits None Commits None Still trying to arrange visits. The Illinois Fighting Illini will be the bane of my recruiting existance. All of my blue chippers I am pursuing want to wear the Blue and the Orange.I still have a good chance of snagging the #1 QB in the state, but Nebraska is chasing him hard. Erik Bach wants to stay close to home, so this maybe what gets me over. MAC South Scoreboard Maryland 48 Northern Illinois 9 Western Michigan 24 Asheville 20 #2 Oklahoma 30 Bowling Green 0 Boston College 38 Ball State 10 Eastern Michigan 38 Buffalo 31 Indiana 21 Central Michigan 10 Minnesota 37 Toledo 7 MAC South Standings Code:

Central takes on another Big 10 team while Eastern takes on SEC powerhouse Florida. Northern Illinois should get back on track against a fairly weak Goldsboro team. Toledo hopes to atone for a drubbing at the hands of Minnesota by traveling to Manhattan, KS to face the Jayhawks. Last edited by Dolemite73 : 01-18-2010 at 11:15 PM. |

2004 Week 3
Northern Illinois 34 Goldsboro 7 Record Overall 1-1 MAC South 0-0 Leaders Passing Jake Lewis 18-33-223yds 2TD 1INT Rushing HB Anthony Stevenson 16att 76yds HB Randy Grier 9att 42yds Receiving FB Ross Gaylor 4-32 WR Albert Schary 4-69-1 TD HB Anthony Stevenson 2-23 Defense FS Joel Coles 7 tackles CB Britt Buckley 5 tackles SS Rusty Hayes 4 tackles 1 assists DE Frank Cocozzo 3 tackles 2 sacks Recap On a bright and sunny day before 21,000 fans, the Northern Illinois Huskies celebrated their first victory of the year against the Goldsboro Pig Pickers. The Pig Pickers opened up the scoring early in the first quarter with HB Cory Bushon busting through a porous Huskies run defense for a 24 yd scamper. Fortunately for the Huskies faithful, this would be the only highlight of the day for Goldsboro. On offense, QB Jake Long was was decent and efficient. He moved the ball against a game Goldsboro defense and threw for 2 scores while also rushing for a score. The stars of the game were the Huskies secondary. They shut down the potent Goldsboro passing attack holding QB Orlando Jacobs 6-19-83yds and also picked him off once. Injuries WR Keith Gload – Torn Elbow ligament – Out 18 weeks FS Antonio Schulters - Hyperextended Knee - Out up to 3 Weeks The injury to Gload is a devestating injury and will affect this team all year. Gload was our only big play receiver. Our lack of depth will be exposed. Hopefully we can have a couple of our kids step up. Recruiting Visits P Daryl Greer – Oak Forest, IL Overall 873, position 50 Commits None Finally got my first visit. Daryl Greer is averaging 46.4 yards per kick and also kicks field goals as well. Marshall and Central Florida are after Greer, but since being close to home is important to him, I should have the inside track. This kid Idolizes Northwestern, so if they swoop in, I may be in trouble. Univ of Illinois is hosting 4 of my targets, so I will need to stay diligent keeping my foot in the door before it is closed. MAC South Scoreboard Northern Illinois 34 Goldsboro 7 Purdue 35 Ball State 7 #23 Michigan State 45 Central Michigan 20 #8 Florida 66 Eastern Michigan 0 Virginia Tech 52 Western Michigan 3 Bowling Green 21 South Florida 20 Toledo 34 Kansas 0 A game Central Michigan battles Michigan State hard all game long only to give up 17 unanswered points in the last 8 minutes of the game. Toledo travels to Kansas and demolishes the Jayhawks, which impresses me greatly considering how bad they lose last week. No other real shockers here. MAC South Standings Code:
Next weeks Schedule Toledo at Eastern Michigan Ball State at Missouri Central Michigan at Wilmington Northern Illinois at Iowa State Western Michigan at Illinois The Big 10 gets a chance to continue to beat on on the MAC South. Illinois has a high powered offense while Western Michigan has one of the worse run defense in the nation (ranked 113). Should get pretty ugly early. We face Iowa State who is struggling out the gate with an 0-2 record. There star running back Danny Wolfe is going to miss this game with a knee injury, so their backup HB Stanley Porter will have to step up. He is talented though and unless we stiffen our run defense, he could hurt us. Redshirt Sophomore QB Antoine Burbank leads the Iowa State attack. He has had an up and down season so far with 4 Ints. Defensively, they give up 35 points a game. Last edited by Dolemite73 : 01-19-2010 at 06:54 AM. |

Northern Illinois 26 Iowa State 15 Record Overall 2-1 MAC South 0-0 Leaders Passing Jake Lewis 14-30-174yds 2TD 0INT Rushing HB Anthony Stevenson 17att 67yds HB Randy Grier 15att 92yds 1TD Receiving FB Ross Gaylor 3-24 WR Colin Tully 3-18 WR Albert Schary 2-68 Defense OLB Ryan Jarvis 8 tackles 1 forced fumble DT Keith Naughton 7 tackles 2 assists 1 sack CB Joel Coles 4 tackles 4 assists 2 pass defense ILB Winfred Cantrall 4 tackles Recap On a rainy day in Ames, Iowa, the Northern Illinois Huskies handily defeated the Iowa State Cyclones. The story of this game was the resiliency of the Huskies Defense. They continually bent to the onslaught of the Cyclones attack, but did not break when it matter most. Iowa State continually exploited the weak Huskies defense by rushing for 134 yds. Iowa State QB Antoine Burbank was under constant pressure all day by the Husky pass rush (sacked 5 times), yet managed to throw for 265yds, 2 TD with 1 INT. On offense, the NIU running game punished the interior of the Cyclone defense for 203 yds. QB Jake Long was able to sell the play action pass effectively and made the throws necessary to move the chains. DT Keith Naughton was a monster on this day. Injuries WR Keith Gload – Torn Elbow ligament – Out 17 weeks FS Antonio Schulters - Hyperextended Knee - Quest up to 2 Weeks We got out of this game clean with no new injuries. Recruiting Visits P Daryl Greer – Oak Forest, IL Overall 873, position 50 QB Erik Bach - Oak Park, IL Overall 94, position 10 Commits None My main QB target has come for a visit this week. He is the top QB in the state and someone I am hoping wants to stay close to home to play his college football. He would definitely look good in the Husky Red and Black. One thing I am noticing is Western Michigan is target some of my blue chip recruits. They are the only MAC team in my area as of now. Something I will have to keep an eye on going forward. MAC South Scoreboard Toledo 38 Eastern Michigan 13 Missouri 20 Ball State 17 Central Michigan 38 Wilmington 7 Northern Illinois 26 Iowa State 15 Illinois 20 Western Michigan 10 Western Michigan played a heroic game at Illinois. Western Michigan was down 13-10 late in the 4th quarter and were driving for the go-ahead touchdown when Illinois intercepted a tipped pass in the end zone and returned it 103yds for a TD. Ball State also played a tough game in Missouri. They had an opportunity to tie the game late in the 4th quarter, but a 43yd FG attempt was blocked to preserve a Missouri victory. MAC South Standings Code:
Next weeks Schedule Bowling Green at Northern Illinois (TV4) Temple at Toledo Colorado State at Eastern Michigan Western Michigan at Ball State Pretty cupcake schedule this week. NIU begins MAC conference play against the 1-1 Bowling Green Falcons. Bowling Green's best unit is their ball hawking secondary led by FS Jerome Clancy. Their secondary is is ranked in the upper third of college football should be a good test for our developing QB. Offensively, the Falcons have struggled this year especially in protecting their QB (7 sacks allowed). We will look to exploit this weakness. |

Bowling Green 24 Northern Illinois 20 Record Overall 2-2 MAC South 0-1 Leaders Passing Jake Lewis 18-26-243yds 1TD 0INT Rushing HB Anthony Stevenson 17att 53yds HB Randy Grier 12att 59yds 1TD Receiving WR Albert Schary 3-71 WR Colin Tully 3-34 FB Ross Gaylor 2-25 Defense SS Clay Witt 8 tackles 1 assist OLB Ryan Jarvis 7 tackles 3 assists OLB Issac Swift 6 tackles 1 assists CB Joel Coles 4 tackles 1 pass defended Recap What a game. With 2:28 left in the 4th quarter, NIU K Max Kirk hits a 54yd FG to put the Hukies ahead 20-17. Game over, right? Not so fast. Bowling Green's struggling QB Bernie Karo carved up the Husky secondary. On 3rd and 17 from their own 17 yard line with 1:41 left on the clock, Karo hits WR Charlie Singleton for a 29 yd pass. Then with 1:10 left on the clock, Karo hits 4th string WR Craig Craver for a 50yd bomb down the right sideline! A couple of runs off tackle and Bowling Green punches the ball in. Game. Set. Match. Offensively, NIU QB Jake Lewis played his best game of the season, despite subpar play on the OLine (4 sacks). On the ground, the rushing game was efficient, rushing for 127 yds. Defensively, NIU was unable to get any sustained pressure on the opposing QB, exposing our pass defense. Also, again, Bowling Green was able to exploit our run defense. Injuries WR Keith Gload – Torn Elbow ligament – Out 17 weeks WR Dean Elliott - High Ankle Sprain - Out 28 weeks T Junior Campbell - Broken Foot - Out 8 weeks FB Ross Gaylor - Thigh Bruise - Ques 2 weeks Ouch. My WR's are being taken down weekly. And with my lack of depth, this is going to be a struggle from here on out moving the ball in the air. Recruiting Visits P Daryl Greer – Oak Forest, IL Overall 873, position 50 Commits QB Erik Bach - Oak Park, IL Overall 94, position 10 Mission accomplished! Having beat out Illinois, I get the 10th ranked QB in the country. This kid will be a stud too (73++ from a terrific scout). He could start as a freshman. Ball State stole a top ranked K I was wooing and Illinois has gotten hold of 3 recruits I was trying to get. Bummer. MAC South Scoreboard Bowling Green 24 Northern Illinois 20 Toledo 37 Temple 9 Colorado State 27 Eastern Michigan17 Ball State 24 Western Michigan 13 With the exception of the week 1 blow out by the hands of Minnesota, Toledo has demolished their last 3 opponents by a combined score of 109-22. Toledo is establishing themselves as the team to beat in the MAC South. NIU had better get their stuff together if they have any hopes of challenging Toledo for the MAC-South title. MAC South Standings Code:
Next weeks Schedule Akron at Northern Illinois Bowling Green at Temple Kent State at Central Michigan Eastern Michigan at Duke Ball State at Toledo Now the conference games start in earnest. Eastern Michigan has an interesting matchup with Duke. The MAC South has struggled against BCS conferences, so it will to see if Eastern can hang with Duke. NIU has a chance to redeem themselves against the 1-3 Akron Zips. Has struggle on both sides of the ball so far this year. The Zips have thrown 11 INT's this year and rank last in college football in running the football. Our porous run defense should be able to handle Akron's running attack. |

Living in the Chicago area, Northern has always been one of those teams I've had a passing interest in, so I'll be following along. Very nice job landing the Bach kid...now go find yourself the next Michael Turner.

Northern Illinois 21 Akron 14 Record Overall 3-2 MAC South 1-1 Leaders Passing Jake Lewis 13-21-153yds 1TD 0INT Rushing HB Anthony Stevenson 23att 118yds 1TD HB Randy Grier 13att 78yds 1TD Receiving FB Ross Gaylor 4-36 WR Albert Schary 3-77 1TD HB Anthony Stevenson 2-8 Defense SS Clay Witt 5 tackles 3 assist 1 INT OLB Ryan Jarvis 5 tackles 3 assists OLB Issac Swift 5 tackles 1 assists 1 INT CB Tony Marshall 1 tackles 1 assist 2 INT DE Frank Cocozzo 2 tackles 1 assist 2 sacks Recap This game was a solid win, yet very unsatisfying. The game was not as close as the final score due to Akron scoring a touchdown very late in the game. Point blank, we should have won this game by 30. We punished Akron on the ground (230 yds). Our play action game was clicking. We got 9 freaking turnovers (7 INT, 2 Fum)! Yet, we only managed 21 points? Unreal and very frustrating. Offensively, NIU QB Jake Lewis was efficient. The running game was productive and dominating. 2 untimely fumbles stopped productive drives though. Defensively, NIU secondary menaced the Akron WR's all day. Our defensive line pressured the opposing quaterback all day, yet was unable to stop the Akron running game. This roster just is not built to stop strong running backs. Injuries WR Keith Gload – Torn Elbow ligament – Out 15 weeks WR Dean Elliott - High Ankle Sprain - Out 27 weeks T Junior Campbell - Broken Foot - Out 7 weeks FB Ross Gaylor - Thigh Bruise - Ques 3 weeks No serious injuries reported this game. One kid had a concussion, but he is probable for the next game. Rub some dirt on it and get back out there, kid! Recruiting Visits P Daryl Greer – Oak Forest, IL Overall 873, position 50 Commits None Things should be picking up here real soon on the recruiting trail. Illinois, the rat bastards, got the state's top DT to commit to them vice me. I felt I had a strong sales pitch too. May have to go to Indiana or Wisconsin (within my 200 mile radius) to find a run-stuffing DT. MAC South Scoreboard Northern Illinois 21 Akron 14 Temple 17 Bowling Green 10 Kent State 15 Central Michigan 14 Duke 44 Eastern Michigan 14 Toledo 41 Ball State 7 Toledo is on a roll. They are going to be very tough here the rest of the way. The MAC South goes through Toledo at this point. Duke again shows the talent disparity between the ACC and the MAC. Hopefully the gap can be closed in the near future. MAC South Standings Code:
Next weeks Schedule Northern Illinois at Central Florida Bowling Green at Central Michigan Toledo at Western Michigan Eastern Michigan at Ball State Looks like Toledo will continue their dominance at weak sister Western Michigan this week. NIU travels down to Orlando, Florida to face the struggling 0-4 Central Florida Golden Knights. The Knights are currently ranked 118th in the country and are lacking talent on offense. Their secondary is their strength, so our focus needs to be establishing the run to set up play action. Central Florida DT Tommie Summers is their best player on defense (6 tack, 3 sacks, 3 TFL's), so we will have to game plan for him on the OLine. |

Central Florida 38 Northern Illinois 28 Record Overall 3-3 MAC South 1-2 Leaders Passing Jake Lewis 14-23-153yds 2TD 1INT Norman Rivers 4-6-91yds 1TD 1INT Rushing HB Anthony Stevenson 16att 90yds 1TD HB Randy Grier 9att 19yds Receiving WR Bobby Kueth 4-84 FB Ross Gaylor 3-17 WR Colin Tully 3-51 2TD Defense CB Joel Coles 9 tackles 1 assist 1 pass defended OLB Ryan Jarvis 8 tackles 2 assists 1 INT OLB Issac Swift 8 tackles 2 assists DT Keith Naughton 6 tackles DE Kenyon Russell 4 tackles 2 assist 2 sacks Recap This loss was a killer. We were manhandled in every facet of the game as our defense gave up 434 total yards. We could not stop the run and their top WR killed us with 132yds and 2 TD's. We may have to adjust our defensive philosophy going forward because not being able to control the line of scrimmage defensively is killing us. Penalties (9-50yds) did a lot to kill our momentum as well. Offensively, NIU QB's played fairly well. backup QB Norman Rivers came in to relieved an injured Jake Lewis and played well. This should pay dividends going forward. The running game was again productive and seems to be coming into its own at the right time. 4 turnovers killed us and ultimately cost us the game. Defensively, Could not stop the Golden Knights at all. Though we had 4 sacks during the game, the pass rush was not consistent enough to help our struggling secondary. OLB Ryan Jarvis has started to emerge as our impact player on defense. Injuries WR Keith Gload – Torn Elbow ligament – Out 15 weeks WR Dean Elliott - High Ankle Sprain - Out 27 weeks T Junior Campbell - Broken Foot - Out 7 weeks FB Ross Gaylor - Thigh Bruise - Ques 3 weeks No new injuries reported this game. This is good, because next weeks game againt Central Michigan is critical to our bowl hopes. Recruiting Visits P Daryl Greer – Oak Forest, IL Overall 873, position 50 OLB Seth Teel - Clifton, IL Overall UR, position 79 HB Vincent Gospe - Mount Prospect, IL Overall 349, position 32 WR Brock Ketchum (nice name) - La Porte, IN Overall UR, position, UR C Ben Landgrebe - Chicago, IL Overall 845, position 45 C Antonio Kurtzman - Downers Grove, IL Overall 128, position 6 G Winston Thornton - Milwaukee, WI Overall 617, position 66 T Zack Lang - Effingham, IL Overall 330, position 38 K Dean Ashcraft - Urbana, IL Overall 366, position 8 DE Marvin Finch - Mahomet, IL Overall 207, position 19 OLB Renaldo Dawson - Bartlett, IL Overall UR, position 79 CB Leon Cross - Danville, IL Overall 231, position 22 S Melvin Castillo - Chicago, IL Overall UR, position 72 S Gus Kasay - Park Ridge, IL Overall 303, position 23 Commits None Geesh, when it rains, it pours. Lots of recruits here for homecoming weekend. Hopefully they see a good game and see how they can help us next years. Getting Kurtzman would be a coup. I am currently his favored school and hope I can close the deal while he is visiting. Would also love to get Gospe as well. He is 6'3" 215lb beast with the stats to match (199-1092 9TD in 8 games). Hope he likes Dekalb, IL. 50% of these kids are from the greater Chicagoland area, so I am doing ok in that respect. Just need to close the deal. MAC South Scoreboard Central Florida 38 Northern Illinois 28 Central Michigan 20 Bowling Green 19 Toledo 20 Western Michigan 18 Eastern Michigan 31 Ball State 28 Really good, tight games this week. Toledo showed that they are mortal in the MAC by squeaking out a victory against Western Michigan on a last second FG. Eastern Michigan improves to 2-1 in the division by beating Ball State in Ball State. Impressive. MAC South Standings Code:
Next weeks Schedule Central Michigan at Northern Illinois Ball State at Bowling Green Ohio at Toledo Eastern Michigan at Western Michigan This week should start separating the MAC South contenders from the also-rans. I can not afford anymore loses in the division, so my team needs to step it up. NIU plays host to the 2-3 Central Michigan Chippewas. The Chippewas features a very strong running attack (2 HB above 300yds for the year) plus a very good secondary. They run a 3-4 defense and OLB Ricardo Fiora is a one man gang (27 tack, 3 sacks, 6 TFL). Last edited by Dolemite73 : 01-19-2010 at 08:30 PM. |

Northern Illinois 43 Central Michigan 17 Record Overall 4-3 MAC South 2-2 Leaders Passing Jake Lewis 15-24-226yds 2TD 1INT Norman Rivers 2-2-15yds 1TD Rushing HB Anthony Stevenson 24att 143yds 1TD HB Randy Grier 10att 40yds Receiving FB Ross Gaylor 4-37 TE Cornell Bark 3-71 WR Albert Schary 2-50 2TD Defense CB Tony Marshall 5 tackles 2 assist OLB Ryan Jarvis 4 tackles 3 assists 1 pass defended DT Keith Naughton 5 tackles 1 assist SS Clay Witt 3 tackles 1 assist 1 INT 1 pass defended Recap Before a crowd of 21,000 fans on homecoming weekend, the NIU Huskies utterly destroyed the Central Michigan Chippewas. This was our most complete game of the year. Total domination on both sides of the ball. The Head Coach rode his coaching staff hard looking for ways to improve their sieve like run defense. Looks like it worked this game. Offensively, NIU QB Jake Lewis was superb despite 2 interceptions. When the game was out of hand, we brought in Norman Rivers to clean up. The running game was the lynchpin that got the offense on track running for 255yds and averaging 5.2 YPC. TE Cornell Bark finally broke out this weekend with a nice game and our Offensive Line was dominant. Defensively, we destroyed the Chippewas. their two touchdowns were off of a blocked punt returned for a TD and an interception returned for a TD. Our defense only gave up 3 points and 171 total yards. Nice day at the office! The secondary came up with 3 INT's and the Defensive line was strong for the first time all year against the run. Injuries WR Keith Gload – Torn Elbow ligament – Out 15 weeks WR Dean Elliott - High Ankle Sprain - Out 27 weeks T Junior Campbell - Broken Foot - Out 7 weeks FB Ross Gaylor - Thigh Bruise - Ques 3 weeks No new injuries reported this game. Recruiting Visits TE Roger Schnieder - Chicago Heights, IL Overall 865, position 43 DT Ike Blaney - Highland Park, IL Overall 345, position 45 Commits CB Leon Cross - Danville, IL Overall 231, position 22 K Dean Ashcraft - Urbana, IL Overall 366, position 8 P Daryl Greer – Oak Forest, IL Overall 873, position 50 C Antonio Kurtzman - Downers Grove, IL Overall 128, position 6 WR Brock Ketchum - La Porte, IN Overall UR, position, UR I guess the kids were impressed by the shellacking NIU gave Central Michigan, huh? Very strong commitment led by the Kurtzman. This kid will most likely start for us next year. Even though Ketchum was not rated, my scout say he is severely underrated (55++), has nice size (6'2" 175lbs) and was a monster at his high school this year (55-1220-7TD). I expect big things from this kid in the future. Plus with a name like that, he can't help but succeed as a WR. MAC South Scoreboard Northern Illinois 43 Central Michigan 17 Ball State 20 Bowling Green 9 Toledo 62 Ohio 0 Eastern Michigan 21 Western Michigan 19 Eastern Michigan is establishing themselves as the closer competitor to the Toledo juggernaut in the MAC South. I personally think it is fools gold, but we will find out. Just did some digging and Toledo is on probation this year! So I need to concentrate on overtaking Eastern Michigan for the MAC South title and to play for the MAC championship. MAC South Standings Code:
Next weeks Schedule Northern Illinois at Western Michigan Bowling Green at Ohio Central Michigan at Toledo Ball State at Akron Eastern Michigan has a bye this week, so I can attempt to use the momentum of this week's win to go into Western Michigan. Toledo should roll all over Central Michigan. Ball State and Bowling Green should have no issues with their opponents. NIU travels to Kalamazoo, MI to take on the 1-5 Western Michigan Broncos. The Broncos features a very strong, opportunistic secondary that has 12 INT on the year. The Broncos also are 6th in the Nation with a +9 Turnover ratio. Luckily for us, their offense is pretty inept and can't turn those turnovers into scores. Their running game is week (118th in the nation) and their QB is a turnover machine (9 INT). As long as we bring the same intensity that we had this week, we should easily beat the Broncos. Last edited by Dolemite73 : 01-19-2010 at 10:04 PM. |

Thanks bbgunn. I found out why my defense was getting killed on the ground. For some strange reason, my defense was set for 3-4 vice 46. My LB's are not strong run stuffers and our front 7 were getting killed up front. Switched it back to 46. You saw the result last game.

2004 Week 8
Northern Illinois 23 Western Michigan 21 Record Overall 5-3 MAC South 3-2 Leaders Passing Jake Lewis 17-30-234yds 1TD 1INT Rushing HB Anthony Stevenson 16att 99yds 2TD HB Randy Grier 6att 26yds Receiving WR Colin Tully 3-40 WR Conrad Alston 3-49 WR Albert Schary 3-39 1TD Defense DT Keith Naughton 7 tackles 2 assist 1 sack 1 forced fumble CB Tony Marshall 7 tackles 0 assist OLB Ryan Jarvis 7 tackles 2 assists Recap Redemption is the key word for this game. Late in the 3rd quarter, with the Huskies up 20-14, K Max Kirk, who has hit some big kicks this year, misses a 58yd FG (what the heck the computer AI was thinking will never be known). Western Michigan then drives down and punches in a TD to go ahead 21-20 with 11:25 left in the fourth quarter. The 2 defenses then stiffen up and it looks like our Huskies will have another tough loss. But not today. NIU gets the ball with 1:57 left on their own 9 yard line. Then QB Jake goes to work. On the game winning drive, Lewis went 2-3 for 62yds (punctuated by a 44yd dart to back up WR Bobby Kueth). Now in FG range, they hand the ball off to HB Stevenson to get to the the Broncos 19yard line. We opt for the FG with :20 left in the 4th Quarter. Since the K had missed one earlier, this 36yd kick is no gimmie. Hit it and we win. Miss it and we lose. Well, Max Kirk nailed it to put us ahead for good. Offensively, NIU QB Jake Lewis was ably led his team to the game winning drive. He is really having an effective year. The running game was effective all game and HB Anthony Stvenson is making a bid for an All-Conference selection. The Offensive line did not allow a sack and held their blocks effectively in the running game. Defensively, we fell back into old habits. We did not control our gaps and allowed a weak running team to gash our defense for 179yds. Our secondary did not allow any big plays in the passing game and our pass rush harassed the opposing QB all game. DT Keith Naughton has been a beast all year. Injuries WR Keith Gload – Torn Elbow ligament – Out 12 weeks WR Dean Elliott - High Ankle Sprain - Out 24 weeks T Junior Campbell - Broken Foot - Doubtful 4 weeks DT Keith Naughton - Bruised Ribcage - Ques 6 weeks Having Naughton injured is not going to help my run defense going forward. Out of all the potential injuries, his is a big one. Recruiting Visits None Commits DT Ike Blaney - Highland Park, IL Overall 345, position 45 DE Marvin Finch - Mahomet, IL Overall 207, position 19 My defensive line gets a huge infusion of talent with these two signees. Blaney is a 3-technique DT who specializes in getting to the passer. Finch is a stud run stuffer off the edge that can funnel ball carriers back inside to the teeth of the defense. I expect huge things from these kids in the future. MAC South Scoreboard Northern Illinois 23 Western Michigan 21 Bowling Green 17 Ohio 16 Toledo 49 Central Michigan 10 Ball State 28 Akron 21 Ball State is right there with me, waiting for Eastern Michigan to slip up and lose a game. Though they have an overall record of 3-5, Ball State has a 3-2 record in the division and playing solid football. Toledo is so dominant, but it wont matter this year as they are on probation. Sucks to be them. MAC South Standings Code:
Next weeks Schedule Northern Illinois at Ball State Eastern Michigan at Bowling Green Western Michigan at Central Michigan Huge game for us this week. A win here will propel us to compete for the division title and make us bowl eligible with 6 wins in my first year as coach. A loss puts us out of the division title talk and jeopardizes our bowl chances going forward. Ball State features a pretty diverse attack based on the Single back formation and play action passing. Defensively, they are not that strong and rely on their strong LB corps to control teams. They can be controlled at the line of scrimmage due to an undersized DLine. That will be our gameplan. Bowling Green will need to beat Eastern Michigan. We will be rooting for them! Last edited by Dolemite73 : 01-20-2010 at 07:42 AM. |

2004 Week 9
Northern Illinois 16 Ball State 14 Record Overall 6-3 MAC South 4-2 Leaders Passing Jake Lewis 13-21-177yds 0TD 0INT Rushing HB Anthony Stevenson 26att 134yds HB Randy Grier 11att 59yds FB Ross Gaylor 4att 80yds 1TD Receiving WR Colin Tully 5-118 FB Ross Gaylor 2-17 WR Albert Schary 1-10 Defense OLB Ryan Jarvis 5 tackles 2 assists 1 pass defended ILB Winfred Cantral 4 tackles 1 assists 1 sack CB Harvey Randle 3 tackles 2 assists 1 INT 1 pass defended Recap Tough physical game. For the life of me, I can not figure out how we compile 456 total yards on offense, yet manage 16 points. Will have to do some digging into my red zone stats and see what we are doing wrong. I am sure part of it are the 12 penalties for 92 yards and 3 lost fumbles have something to do with us not meeting our potential. Offensively, NIU QB Jake Lewis was his usual, efficient self. He fed off of our running game and moved the chains when needed. Very steady play all year, which is a good thing for now. The running game put on a power running exhibition gaining 312yds on 5.5 YPC. Even FB Ross Gaylor got into the act with a long 75yd TD run for a touchdown, plowing over numerous players in the opoosing secondary. The Offensive line allowed 3 sacks, but their run blocking was stellar and they are starting to gel right at the most opportune time. Defensively, we sut down the Ball State Offense, allowing only 206 total yds. Our DLine got steady pass rush all day long (3 sacks) and our LB's did a good job stuffing the run. Our secondary is proving to be our most consistent unit nabbing 3 INT's and not allowing any big plays in the passing game. On Special teams, K Max Kirk has proven to be a nice weapon and went 3/4 in FG's today. Injuries WR Keith Gload – Torn Elbow ligament – Out 11 weeks WR Dean Elliott - High Ankle Sprain - Out 23 weeks T Junior Campbell - Broken Foot - Ques 3 weeks DT Keith Naughton - Bruised Ribcage - Prob 5 weeks Getting Junior Campbell back will help our line with our pass protection, so I am glad to have him back. Recruiting Visits None Commits C Ben Landgrebe - Chicago, IL Overall 845, position 45 OLB Renaldo Dawson - Bartlett, IL Overall UR, position 76 Getting 2 top-flight Centers is a good thing for our team. I will most likely be moving Landgrebe to Tackle due to his strength being pass blocking and his weakness being run blocking. Dawson has a very good rating from my scout (Terrific with LB's) and should be that stud run stuffing ILB that I will need in a few years. MAC South Scoreboard Northern Illinois 16 Ball State 14 Eastern Michigan 21 Bowling Green 13 Western Michigan 37 Central Michigan 14 Eastern Michigan keeps rolling along. Next week they have Central Michigan, so they more than likely will not loss next week either. MAC South Standings Code:
Next weeks Schedule Toledo at Miami (OH) Central Michigan at Eastern Michigan Western Michigan at Bowling Green Miami (OH) sits at 5-3 overall, but 4-1 in their division (tied with Marshall). They have a good chance of upsetting Toledo. If they can't beat them, hopefully they rough them up enough for me to be able to beat them in two weeks. I have a bye this week, then two season defining games. At home against Toledo and on the road at Eastern Michigan, which could decide who goes on to play in the MAC championship game since Toledo is forbidden from post season play.
