The "I'm Working on Christmas" Thread

I imagine there won't be too many posts in this thread, but what the hell I can always talk to myself.

Cows don't take the day off so neither do I. I usually work Christmas every year so I can have off on New Year's.

I'll still manage to make it to a family function but I have quite the convenient excuse to duck out of it after a while.

Ouch. I'm on-call duty today, so I'm kinda working.. (have to take my computer and cell phone up to the family dinner just in case I have a call), and I'm working New Year's Day..

Even if I weren't on 'paternity leave', OG is closed so I would be off. However, the wife and I had to get out of the hospital for a bit so we went out for breakfast at IHOP, which is open today. I felt bad for the poor kids who were working, so our waitress got a fat tip. Of course, I wonder if they expect Christmas tips today and they volunteered for the shift?

I'm working, and I'm not thrilled about it. They've asked me to do a task that I have never done before, more or less without guidance, because all the people who could offer me guidance (or would actually be the ones to do this task) are out for the rest of the year with use-or-lose vacation. The thing I'm working on is due Monday at noon. I hate my job this week.

Anything I can do to help, let me know, I will be at the computer all day today.... everyone that was supposed to come over for dinner has gotten sick.

Normally I would work Christmas, but my company has now taken away receiving a comp day for working holidays. Your only option is to work it for time & a half or take the day off with full pay. I figure that means if you work, you are working for half-pay, considering that if you stayed home you would get paid anyway. You also have to put in for the day off & hope you get it. (I have to work NYE & NYD.)

Yikes, that's awful. We get full pay whether we work it or not, but if we work, we get the time and a half on top of the holiday pay. So it comes out to double time and a half for that day.

My fiancee and I work tonight, but I will be walking there with a renewed zeal upon reading the little tidbit above.

Thankfully I was off today. But I had to work 645-12 at one job yesterday. And then had to do a drug run from 5-11. Needless to say, I'm beat today. Thank god the kids didn't wake up super early this morning. We got them up around 9am.

Working Fourth of July isn't a problem -- it's working Fifth of July that really sucks. I think the only "holiday" that sucks more is Labor Day -- I've never been able to truly enjoy Labor Day knowing that I have to go to work the next day. I think it stems from back in the day when school would start the day after Labor Day -- it's like a Nam flashback.

I'll check in here next weekend when I'm at work at midnight New Year's Eve.

I hate working the day afier a holiday. Maybe it is different in a "real" job. But in all the mcJobs I've had, people always come in useless. Or don't come in all.
