Question Do people around here *really* care about Bobby Brown?

"Here" specifically meaning metro Atlanta news/talk radio listeners.

I've had AM 750 (news/talk radio) on for about an hour now, and I have heard the story about Bobby Brown going to jail for a parole violation at least 5 or 6 times. Is my head in the sand here? Do people listening to this kind of station care about Bobby Brown to the point that his parole violation is the hands-down #1 news story of the morning? I don't get it.

99.9% of the stories about 'celebrities' I could care less about. Unfortunately, other people do so, we have to constantly here about them...

Are we talking about Bobby Brown, the washed up singer or is there some Atlanta celebrity with the same name?

Right, but it seems like such a story would be major news on the teen/early 20's-oriented stations, as well as urban contemporary/R&B stations, but just a footnote on news/talk radio. Obviously I'm wrong though.

Story is here

Quote:
Singer Bobby Brown faces hearing in DeKalb

Singer Bobby Brown is due in DeKalb County court this morning after being arrested for violating his probation from an earlier drunk driving conviction.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.

Brown, 34, was arrested Friday night at an Alpharetta restaurant where he was dining with his wife, pop singer Whitney Houston. He has been in the DeKalb County jail since his arrest.

The two were at the Atlantic Seafood restaurant on Mansell Road "when somebody recognized him, knew from the media that he was wanted in DeKalb, and called . . . our dispatch center," said Alpharetta police Sgt. Chris Lagerbloom. "We sent officers to the restaurant, and to avoid a scene, asked the management to go to his table and requested he walk to the front door."

Lagerbloom said Brown was "as calm and cordial and professional as you could be" when he was arrested.

But he said Houston was upset. "She was yelling and screaming and pointing fingers at one of our officers," Lagerbloom said.

Brown was sentenced to eight days in jail and two years' probation in January when he pleaded guilty to a drunken driving charge from 1996. A warrant was issued for him last month for not complying with terms of his probation.

Early this month, he skipped birthday festivities at the Taboo Bistro and Bar for Houston, who turned 40. The couple own a home near Alpharetta.

Brown also was arrested in Atlanta in November 2002, when he was charged with possession of marijuana and several driving violations. A bench warrant was issued on the DeKalb charge after Brown left the state to perform at the American Music Awards program in Los Angeles.

Every time I see/hear a story about a celebrity, I cringe. Especially the kind in which they talk about weddings or breakups or crap like that. I just don't care, and I don't understand why other people do. Who really gives a crap about Ben Affleck and J Lo - honestly? Is it not apparent to anyone else that they are just together to promote an awful movie and likely will be out of each other's lives in the not too distant future? Or that Demi Moore is only dating someone like Ashton Kutcher because she's trying to get back into Hollywood and he's young and appeals to a large segment of the movie-going population, most of whom have never even heard of Ghost (lucky for them)? Are people oblivious to this, or am I missing something?

To be sure, there are news-worthy celebrity stories. Like it or not, Kobe is news-worthy. Yesterday's article about his accuser not showing up for her sophomore year of college - I can't believe they printed that. What's next? "Kobe Accuser Not Regular; Mom Buys Metamucil"?

Eh, that's just WSB trying to make it's demo a little younger. Well, that & the fact that it's a relatively slow news day so far. After all, our SAT scores aren't exactly "news" since we already pretty much knew how that story would turn out.

We went through the same sort of thing with Lisa "LeftEye" Lopes & Howard Rollins in the past. Just imagine how much play Elton John would get here in a criminal case

What? Don't you see the comercials? Ten years of the lottery has solved our education problems. Our kids are doing much better than ten years ago. Considering we were 48th in SAT ten years ago (that's from memory, but I believe it is correct), we should be in the top 20 by now, right? Right?

For the longest time I thought the word was "perogative", just from how it sounded to me in the song.

Somewhere, Terrance Trent Darby scores a handful of $5 crack-rocks in the hopes of turning Whitney into his 'tender roni' while Bobby's in the clink.

Well, CNN has this as a "Top Story" in the top right column of stories right now. Amazing.

Well, CNN definitely has a bit of an "Atlanta bias," so that doesn't surprise me too much.
