Greatest FOF ever?

Which one of the 6 releases will be considered the best FOF release to date?

Sorry, best overall release. Which one stands out as being the 1 game that people will remember and had the most fun with. That's why I voted for FOF2.

I'd agree. FOF2 was the most entertaining for me when it came out. While I think the game has improved since then, I never reached the same degree of fun I had with FOF2. Of course, when I go back and try to play FOF2 now I get frustrated so fast that I quickly give up.

the question i thought which was the best overall game so i voted for fof4

when fof1 was release i wasn't "into" text based games although i had gotten hooked on championship manager i couldn't care for other games like this until fof1 which changed my entire gaming perspective

The Original FOF has the luxury of being the first to capture me as I had waited for a game like FOF for years and years and thus it absorbed me completely.

While I probably played FOF2 more, the novelty was the best part for me and keeps me loyal to the bitter end.

TCY, hands down. I have never spent so much time playing a "stupid game" (direct quote from my wife). I probably put in 100 game hours within the 1st 2 weeks of owning it.

The sad thing is, I'm in San Angelo, TX for the next 2 months and my copy of TCY is on its way to San Antonio. I removed it from my hard drive about a month ago and I'm really starting to regret it.

I'm sorry...

I used to live in Abilene, so I feel your pain.

Oh, and I voted for FOF2. Seems that I was able to play that for longer and enjoy it more than I have FOF4.

I'm really liking the new version. I enjoyed FOF2 and FOF2001, but FOF2 was too easy, and FOF2001 just never felt finished/polished. With house rules, I'm finding FOF4 extremely challenging, and the additional player ratings, the chemistry, and the new features are wonderful.

Having said that, I think the game still needs tweaks:

1. In-game AI play calling: I watch every game, and there are some baffling (read "unbelievably stupid") things that go on, things that go way beyond the "well, some coach might call a play like that" kind of rationalization.

2. Fourth quarter: I don't have evidence, but observationally everything feels wrong with regards to comebacks in the fourth quarter, both with regards to their frequency and their size.

3. AI roster management: This seems much improved over FOF2001, but FOF2001 had little AI roster management at all, and FOF4's AI in this regard is still clearly lacking. The good free agents slipping through free agency who all get signed for min-sal contracts by one AI team right before the season starts is a bit disappointing as well.

None of these things is a game breaker by any means, though, and overall I'm finding FOF4 to be the most playable and challenging version to date.

TCY... while I loved FOF2, FOF2001 and still play FOF4, "The College Years" is Jim's masterpiece, even if it can be somewhat cumbersome and tedious now and then.

Honestly, I think FOF4 is probably the best of the games, unless TCY is your cup of team. But for sheer release anticipation, meeting (and exceeding my expectations), and raising the bar immensely, you gotta go with FOF2.

I gotta say FOF2, no doubt about it. I bought FOF4, but I don't play it anymore, going back to FOF2 after a month.

I would rank my preferences as:

1: TCY; I think this game raised the bar for Jim and led to a lot of people being somewhat disappointed in FOF4.

2: FOF4; I put FOF4 above FOF2 because I believe this version comes closer to capturing the feel of the NFL for me.

3: FOF2; I was actually here in San Angelo when this one came out. I checked Jim's website as soon as I got internet here and was surprised to find that the game had just been posted, I was downloading it within seconds.

I thought FOF was wonderful when it first came out, but FOF2 significantly improved things. FOF2001 was two steps forward and 1 1/2 steps back (thank you Gigawatt Studios for the wonderful interface - smack). FOF2002 is 2001's leper stepchild. FOF4, while still a good game, is still pretty much the same as FOF2. The same strategies work, with some tweaking.

TCY is very different and I understand why some people like it. I liked it too, but it's so fundamentally flawed I can't play it anymore.

That's why I voted for FOF2.

That's well said and does a good job of expressing my opinion as well.

Probably the assholes that got a pirated version. Weren't there some around awhile ago?

I think it's funny that FOF2001 hasn't gotten the props as much. Then again, it wasn't as good as FOF2, TCY or FOF 4. Just shows you how much Jim, and Jim alone does rock!

I started with FOF2002, and I probably would have voted for if it weren't for the record keeping glitches that added an odd record in the player-history.

The only part of the interface that made me want to kill was the scroll-bar handles. If they were 1 pixel wide, that was a lot. Other than that, the interface was good IMHO.

If the record-keeping had been flawless, I would have voted for FOF2002, but, I had to vote FOF4 because it is a solid game.

TCY is far too cumbersome for me.
