Portland plays 3 games vs Cleveland
Spring plays 3 games @ Ann Arbor

The schedule favors Portland, but being 3 games down with 3 to go, they still have to hope for a miracle here.

Bardino Blitzes Ann Arbor
Friday, September 21st, 1973: Carlos Bardino of the Portland Grocers not only shut out Ann Arbor 5-0, he made it look effortless. Bardino stopped them on 4 hits to help the Grocers cruise past the Wolverines. His performance included 3 strikeouts and 1 walk.

For the season Bardino has logged 14 wins and 10 losses and struck out 130 batters in 212 innings while compiling a 4.29 ERA.

9/23:

Portland 5, Cleveland 2
Spring 8, Ann Arbor 5 (10 innings)

Ironically enough, Spring and Ann Arbor were tied 3-3 after 9 innings. Spring scores 5 runs in the 10th and Ann Arbor scores 2 runs in the 10th. Regardless, with the win, the Spring Lions clinch the final 1973 playoff spot.

Ann Arbor and Spring still have two more games to play to determine who will have home field advantage before they play another best of 7 series vs each other.

If the right situation occurs, the two teams could technically end up playing a total of 11 games in a row vs each other between the end of the regular season and first round of the playoffs!

Ann Arbor 93-67 (M# 1 for homefield)
Spring 91-69 (2 GB)

Morales destroys the Wolverines to force the regular season title to the final game of the season.

Morales Stops Ann Arbor Cold
Monday, September 24th, 1973: Mauro Morales was sneaky fast, on the mark and hard to hit today. He blanked the Ann Arbor Wolverines 7-0 on 5 hits and had no walks and 9 strikeouts.

"You know what he's going to throw. You know what to expect. And you still can't hit it," the Ann Arbor skipper told reporters after the shutout loss to the Spring Lions.

"He just had a real deceiving fastball today and he was throwing it for strikes."

So far in 41 appearances this season, Morales has recorded 22 wins and sustained 12 losses. He has pitched 305 innings, yielded 289 hits, fanned 253 and has a 3.13 ERA.

Ann Arbor 7, Spring 4

Spring's come back was not meant to be as they get halted on the final day. Ann Arbor backs into the playoffs with homefield after having lost 4 of their last 10 games!

Another lousy season for NY .

Thank goodness we can't be fired or I would probably be out by now.

Wow I'll take it after the horrible start we got off to. It looks like it took a while for the bats to catch up with the pitching, then the bullpen decided to take the season off after I traded a piece of it (1 run games were horrible for us).

You need to schedule more home games I think.
