![]() Covering a guy who's on vacation here in Iowa, I ask "What can one do here in the land of cornfields?"
1. Get drunk and piss in a cornfield. 2. Watch an $11.99 porno in the hotel room. 3. Ask kids, "Why did you select Iowa or Iowa St. as a place to attend college?" I really wish I was single, there are college women everywhere! I've been asked 3 times if I'm single, and I have my wedding ring on!!! Todd |

I went to "The Field of Dreams" the only time I've been there, it was kinda cool to get to play on the field. Not even sure if it is still there.

Iowa City is a great place. My suggestions would be:
Go to Fitzpatricks and get a Chicago-style pizza (best I've had outside of Chicago - and yes, I know that is weird that it is in Irish bar) Go to the Santuary and enjoy some thin-crust pizza, some great beers and live music - the crowd there is usually a little older with some graduate students Take a walk through the downtown ped mall - plenty of things to do. Go see Kinnick stadium - it doesn't look like much, but that place is great when the crowds fill the stands. Talk to people - they talk back and the city is the most educated in the nation - I remember the janitor in the building I worked at had a PhD in history and had been writing a mythical book for 20 years. Walk along the river - it isn't that beautiful, but it offers some of the best vantage points of the campus and city. Go cosmic bowling at Coralville Lanes - it is a dive, but the atmosphere used to be great when I used to go there. Read the Daily Iowan - it is the best daily school newspaper in the country If he is town, go meet Iowa Blackie - he was "King of the Hobos" a while back and is a really interesting guy. Go to Iowa City Park - it is peaceful and relaxing I'm sure I could think of more, but I'm still at work and should finish up here. ![]() Don't go to Ames - it sucks.

Apparently John Galt had some good friends at IU or something. My girlfriend lived in Iowa City for a couple of years (and about half an hour from it the rest of her life) and was happy to be gone. She went to Mizzou. Go figure. (Go Jayhawks!)

I went there about ten years ago and I sprained my ankle sliding into third base. Actually, they didn't have the actual bases on the field, there was just a metal post sticking out of the ground where third should have been. My ankle wasn't happy...

Maybe you can wonder: "Why the hell is the speed limit only 65 here? I can see for miles."

Well, I guess I live in a "metro" area in Norman, but I'm really just bitching about the speed limit being low in areas where it could be as high as it is in your neck of the woods, vex, along the Will Rogers Turnpike. In reality, I don't mind going slow if I don't have to get somewhere that day, and would rather go through all the small towns and kind of "experience America" rather than the McDonalds on the side of the interstate.

What I hate is the paved county roads that are better than some highways. But because they are county roads, you have to/supposed to go 45 MPH.

Once while driving on the interstate passed Vanmeter I almost stopped at the birth place of Bob Feller (they even have a sign on the highway for it), but my wife gave me one of those looks. To this day I harbor deep, emotional scars from the missed opportunity.

I'm staying in Iowa city/Coralville and it is a fun place to drink and look at some hottie college women. This place is a gold mine for single men.
One thing I really like about Iowa, the people here are so friendly. Not one middle finger thrown my way yet. What's this about meth? I live close to Quincy, IL - that's the meth capital of the world. Thanks for the list John, I've checked out a few things and I'm really having a good time here. I see the Cardinals got their ass handed to them yesterday! Go Garrett!! Todd |
