I miss the (insert name here) Classic
On the eve of another college football season, I realize I missed those "Classics" and "Memorials", games that game a week or two before the official start of the season. They used to have some decent matchups (for the first game), and they came at a good time - had my fill of baseball, had my fill of watching the 3rd string pros. These days every team starts the season more or less at the same time.
Does anyone else miss them? Or is everyone content with the new NCAA order? |

Well, I don't mind because every team plays 12+ games now.

Seriously...he's been gone for a month and a half already. (no need to call him names, either)

Never paid much attention to the title of the games. We have some good matchups this weekend, personally, I don't care if they call it a "classic" or not.

Forget football -- I miss the old Big 8 holiday basketball tournament. Back in the day, the Big 8 held a conference tournament around Christmas and New Year's. Once they started the post-season tournament, this tourney lost its cache and faded to black. But I'd love to see the Big 12 hold a conference tournament between Christmas and New Year's before the conference schedule begins to get everyone going. You could make it a loser-bracket format and it would only count as one game against the NCAA schedule. Seems like it would be more fun and more challenging than playing in front of 58 people in Puerto Rico. Except for the Puerto Rico part.
