larrymcg421's Stud8 Poker Dynasty

A couple weeks ago, I deposited $30 into Full Tilt. I have since run that total up to $375, almost exclusively playing 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo. I did have a couple of Hold Em successes, including a 3rd place finish at a MTT that netted me $65.

I don't think there's been much Stud Hi/Lo discussion on these boards, so that's what I'll be focusing on.

Tonight's two hour session is three tables of $1/$2. I've found multi-tabling actually improves my game, as I'm less likely to overplay marginal hands. I'll go through some of the key hands, one table at a time.

Nice victory thanks to some terrible hand selection from villain. You should not be playing K 9 J against a raise in Stud8. My hand isn't the strongest either, but it's three to a flush and only one spade is dead. On 4th street I have a big draw and it's getting played all the way.

Awesome, I love stud/8. Easily my 2nd favorite(and quite probably 2nd best) game at this point.

Completing with a 7? I don't buy it. I make a loose call to see if I can steal on 4th. Then I get three to a flush. On 5th, I double pair and villain bricks. Since I am certain he is going low in this situation, my two pair puts me as a 64% favorite even with the dead T, so a raise is automatic.

Three suited wheel cards is one of the strongest Stud8 hands you can get. I just call so as not to scare away a multi-way pot, but to no avail here. The deuce isn't what I was looking for on 4th, but I'm certainly not scared of a 7-3 (worst possible scenario still has me at 45%). Villain doesn't checkraise, so I know he doesn't have 7's, and it's all academic from there.

Villain overplaying his hand here as he raises with a pair of 7's. By then, I've made two pair and certainly not scared of his ugly board.

It's probably textbook to reraise with a big pair on 3rd so you can isolate, but that doesn't really work in $1/$2. Lots of scary boards develop here, but my draw is too strong to let go.

Bah. Petered out at the end and finished 3rd. Still, an $89 profit isn't too bad.

Bankroll now at $577.18.

I'll post a few hands tomorrow.
