SIMCAL

With all the fun discussion of who is running for California and all, why not start a new game?

Some of you have been looking for a political sim, now here's your chance. Let's run California.

Here are some rules:

-Any FOFC member is considered a citizen of SIMCAL.

-The government of SIMCAL shall consist of a Governor, cabinet members of his choosing, and a Legislature.

-The Governor shall not serve more than 2 consecutive one month terms.

-Legislators may serve until they are defeated.

-An article of interest will be posted for discussion and possible legislation.

-The Governor may veto any legislation, but veto's may be overturned by a 2/3rds vote.

One house rule, I'm not allowed to run for Gov, but I am, as gamemaster, speaker of the house. I also can be removed by a 75% vote.

Interested?

And SkyDog, as the Supreme Court, has the power to overturn any legislation. Say if we were to pass a referendum allowing the use of Avatars, for instance.

I'm in. Here's my $3,500 and 65 signatures (plus a few extra just in case). I think I'll run as an independent.

Sorry, CalTech doesn't have a football team. I'd be happy to work with you on getting tickets to women's fencing, though. (http://www.athletics.caltech.edu/)

Nevermind the fact that CalTech is a private college, not a state-sponsored school. However I might be able to score you some tickets to a Cal Bears game.

I wish to officially announce my gubernatorial bid as a libertarian candidate. Free pot and hookers for all! Well, not free but I'll try to get them legalized for y'ins.

With a large potential number of candidates, there's going to have to be some sort of runoff, or possibly even primaries. Maybe we can divide the "parties" into odd/even. Or maybe candidates need to petition to get on the ballot (a thread could be a petition? we'd need a lot of threads).

Don't worry, there are plenty of empty seats at every game (except when they host a school that actually has fans), so you don't need a connection to get tickets.

Aha, that must explain the record number of season tickets.

I feel like Riordan. I was going to run for Governor until I saw Satchmo threw his hat into the ring. I'll announce my intentions on the "Tonight Show" tomorrow evening.

If I do run, it will be on the "I just want to publicly debate Skippy" platform.

On a side note about Cal Tech, they did have a football team go undefeated back in the last 40's early 50's

Another thought I had on this while driving home (hey, it's a long drive). For legislators, we could possibly break things up into districts. Say all members with id's ending in '0' could be a district, all ending in '1' another district, etc. Each would have one or two reps. Just a thought. To break ties, we could have the Speaker be independent of that - either the 11th or 21st member of the legislature. If the Speaker (at the moment vtbub) is voted out or steps down, he should be replaced by another current legislator who is elevated from his district. That district would then hold a replacement election.

I'd really like to be a part of this but am leaving on vacation for 6 days on Tuesday. I'd be open to any sort of role, wherever there is a space. While by nature a moderate, I would have no qualms about being either a lunatic lefty or raving righty if need be.
