Not many players interested in us. We're going after Sloan since he's instate; that would give us an outstanding LB corps and allow us to run out of the 3-4 and 4-4 all day.
Very little interest from the Tackles and Guards of the world, which is disappointing - and a little worrisome. We need to pick up some talent there or we're in trouble. There's a lot of CB talent in- and around- state, so we should pick up a couple of those guys. |

Signed Elsewhere OLB Gus Blanks has signed with Georgia. One position of worry taken care of - Talley has the measurables to fit right in off the bat. Should be a very good run blocker right away, and enough speed to carry the ball when we need him to. |

Recruiting: Week Two Overview
Old Recruits - Results FB Byron Wingate: UF, GT, Auburn The change to play early is not important to Byron. Wingate is just as fast in person as he is on paper. (5.05s 40) WR Rickey Harrington: FSU, GT, Louis He indicated he does not care about immediate playing time. Harrington is faster than we originally thought. ( TE Freeman Dempsey: GT, Tenn, ASU Good thing campus location is a huge factor for Freeman. His bench rep numbers were right on the money. (345 Bench) T Cal Crawford: FSU, GT, Bucks We talked about coaching style, but he was pretty indifferent His vertical jump was below what we had on paper for him. ( T Domonique Duckett: UGA, FSU, Bama Domonique is not really concerned about our style of football. His bench rep numbers weren't what they should be. ( G Keenan McKay: Louis, Auburn, FSU He doesn't seem to care about our coaching philosophies His understanding of football is better than expected. (2.82+ GPA) DE Norman Miles: GT, UGA, Auburn Our location is playing a huge role in recruiting him. He disappointed us by not jumping as high as we'd expected. ( DT R.J. Wagner: GT, UGA, UMD He told us that he doesn't care where we are located. The tapes don't really show how quick Wagner is. ( MLB Rashard Sloan: Bucks, Miami, Auburn We pitched him our coaching style and he was very receptive. Rashard increased his upper-body strength since our notes. ( CB Stanford Ingram: FSU, GT, Louis Stanford says that location doesn't matter to him. He was able to bench what we have listed here. (225 Bench) CB Freddie Holiday: GT, Auburn, FSU Freddie isn't interested in playing right away. We didn't expect him to catch as many balls as he did. ( CB Maurice Casey: Bucks, Auburn, GT Location is not a factor for Maurice at all. His bench rep numbers weren't where they should be ( CB Delvyn Aristegui: GT, Mizzou, MIami He told us that he doesn't care where we are located. The scouts nailed his catching ability the first time. (A- Hands) CB Shane Rodgers: GT, VT, Miami Good thing campus location is a huge factor for Shane. We hoped for a better vertical from Shane. ( |

Talley? Right now, yep. We'll sign one more FB (walkon if not actual), and probably play a TE as a backup FB as well. I'd love to actually get two more FBs in, but we don't have the roster space - or the points to spend recruiting. |

Signed Elsewhere CB Maurice Casey signed with Auburn. A very good week, with 4 4* players signed. That helps in a lot of places, and opens up some more scholarships to offer. The defensive secondary can concentrate on CB now, and we'll be looking for some more interested Offensive Linemen. Last edited by Celeval : 08-09-2003 at 12:53 PM. |

Recruiting: Week Three Overview
Old Recruits - Results FB Byron Wingate: GT, UF, Auburn Atlanta is a big draw for Byron. His hands were exactly what we expected. (B Hands) WR Rickey Harrington: FSU, GT, Louis Location is not a factor for Rickey at all. Harrington's upper body strength really didn't live up to his billing. ( T Domonique Duckett: UGA, Bama, FSU We've definately got location working in our favor. Domonique's top speed is right where we expected it to be. (5.31s 40) G Keenan McKay: Louis, WVU, Auburn He doesn't care where he plays, so there goes that pitch. Keenan is definately faster than we thought he'd be. ( DE Norman Miles: GT, UGA, Auburn We're definately gaining Norman's interest. The reports were right about his bench press ability. (340 Bench) MLB Rashard Sloan: Bucks, Auburn, VT Rashard is slowly moving us up his list of top schools. Rashard is faster in pads than we expected. ( CB Stanford Ingram: FSU, GT, VT He shocked us by not responding to the chance to play early. Stanford seems to hae lost some lower-body strength. ( CB Freddie Ingram: GT, Auburn, VT In this case, playing in Atlanta may not matter. Freddies been training and has improved his vertical. ( CB Delvyn Aristegui: GT, Mizzou, Miami He told us that he doesn't care where we are located. His vertical jump was below what we had on paper for him. Preseason: Cuts
I have 58 players, and need to cut down to 55. The three players cut: LT Davon Brown (Jr-RS) (OVR 60): Davon Brown was one of last season's recruits; he came in as a JUCO Jr, but is at the bottom rung of our Offensive Tackle depth chart. CB Venice Gilliam (Sr) (OVR 72): A surprising choice here, but with the freshman cornerback recruiting class, Gilliam would see time only in the Dime packages and on special teams. With only one year of eligibility remaining, Gilliam is the odd man out. P Andrea Beasley (Fr-RS) (OVR 71): A very good punter, but behind MacPherson and there's no reason to carry two punters. |
