Talking CM4 out in retail stores

I just saw CM4 on the shelves of Fry's Electronics. Too bad it is $50. I'll have to wait to buy it. However, there is hope for us Yanks yet.

Interesting. I know that Fry's CEO John Fry owns the San Jose Arena Football team. But how did his store manage to get copies of CM anyway? Beyond simply importing?

Mr. Vaughn???

Hopefully a sign of things to come.

Fry's is a great store and I don't think it'd surprise me if they imported it for sale here, which from my understanding would be perfectly legal and no different than selling a CD or record import.

The Fry's only an Arena Football team and I understand they love sports. They've also got good business sense.

Back in the days we had Fry's grocery stores. The same family got out of the grocery business and entered the electronics business sometime in the 80s. oddly, the red Fry's logo is the same or identical to the grocery logo.

Is Fry's a California only store?

Given AZSpeechCoach's location, I doubt it.

I believe they are West Coast only, but constantly expanding eastward.

Isn't Arizona a province in California?

There used to be a Fry's north of Dallas when I lived there. No idea if it is still there..

We have no decent computer store here in the Lehigh Valley (PA). I have to live with Best Buy and EB/EBX. We are in desperate need of a computer store. I wonder if Fry's is a franchise dealie. Hmm...

I could start Bonegavel's Computer Emporium, where you don't like the meat, but you sure like the bone!

Fry's is a privately-held, family-owned company. They don't franchise their stores. They intend to grow in the future and like to remind people that even Best Buy was once a small, closely-held electronics store or that Wal-Mart never had stores in many parts of the country.

Fry's last big expansion came when they purchased Incredible Universe from Tandy Corp. The retailer needs a good footprint for their stores, lots of parking, and they tend to move into already constructed buildings.

The retailers has 23 stores in five states (California, Oregon, Arizona, Nevada and Texas).

Outside California (where there are 14 locations), Texas is its next biggest market with locations in Arlington, Austin, Dallas, Houston and Irving. There are two stores in Arizona (Phoenix and Tempe), one each in Nevada (Las Vegas Blvd. in Vegas) and Oregon (Wilsonville).

I've done quite a bit of reporting on Fry's.
