Fantasy Baseball 2009 Sign Up Thread

Let's use this thread to help each other find fantasy baseball leagues.

I'm looking for a good competitive league, preferably a keeper league, and am willing to join a pay league. I missed out on the FOFC Hardcore League last year, will it be back? If so, do you guys have any openings? Anyone else looking to fill a spot or two?

I have run a pay-to-play AL-only league through FOFC a couple of times in the recent past. Might be willing to give it a go again.

I'd prefer a keeper league, too, if there's a meaningful way to do that online.

I'd be interested. There was a really cool service I used (you had to pay with no real prizes though) where you picked your teams and basically they took the stats from the week and it had simulated games for your team using your lineups, rotation, etc. Scoresheet Sports.

I generally like keeper leagues too, so if anyone was going to do one, I'd be down.

Yes, it will be back- I already went and dug up the old thread and was planning on making the 2009 one this week. I always give preference to the players from the previous season. However, I'm pretty sure we had 4 dead teams at the end so we should have openings and usually about 1/3rd of the league drops out from year to year.

The FOFC Extreme league was a big failure - IMO because the large rosters basically prevented any meaningful free-agent moves or trades. I'd love to give the Hardcore league another go - count me in.

Agree it was so boring with no need to add/remove players.

I would also like to join a new one this year.

FYI- if you had a spot in that league last year, like Toddzilla, you'll have a couple of days this year where you can agree to stay- provided you didn't abandon your team last year. Then there will be a waiting list in the FOFC Hardcore thread.

I'd rather people wait until then to sign up, tho, so I'm not chasing down 2 threads at once.

Also, remember, we do the slow/live online draft where you have to be able to check online every day for usually three weeks- sometimes during the day (or submit a list of a couple of picks to someone who will be).

Look for the 2009 thread sometime this week- hopefully Monday or Tuesday, if work is light.

I've always been interested in scoresheet. I also stumbled on "Box Baseball" today. Looks like with ten teams you could play for $25 a team. They use the Dewan +/- ratings for defense, so they are attempting to put off a complicated engine. No idea how accurate it is though.

Sami if you try to put together a 'real-life' league in Connecticut/RI/MA let me know. I was going to post something today to see if we could get 8-10 owners and play an AL only keeper league.

here's an idea...

Create a second league with the waiting list people - that can be the "second division". Top three teams get "promoted" to the Hardcore league, bottom 3 teams in the Hardcore league get "relegated".

It sounds like most of you guys that want a AL only league also want a keeper league. Is there enough interest to create a new league? How about a pay league?

I'd like to get on the FOFC Hardcore league waiting list but am happy to start another league if there's interest. Roto? Head to head? What are you guys looking for?

My preference would be:

AL only
8-12 teams
23 active players, 7 reserve
5 x 5 rotisserie style
$260 budget with in-season FAAB
Keeper list of 5-10 players for two years
No toppers or other twists beyond the keeper list
$50-100 entry fee

I did it for two years in a 22 team (or so) keeper league for both leagues. It was pretty cool to get the results every week and be able to pore through inning by inning. It would be even cooler to be able to put the data into a viewer program, but I dont' know if that's been done.

My 15 year AL only league is 24 man rosters with 5 reserves and we have 10 teams. An 11th team would be quite a stretch, and I am the sort of guy who likes to pick between middle relievers.

I think this is good criteria. I'd say closer to the $100 then the $50.

I prefer 4x4 with K instead of WHIP, but I know I'm in the minority with that.

I would love to join a money keeper league.

$100 may be a stretch with the wife but I could probably swing $50. Or do $100 and pay my fee in incriments.

I'd jump all over something like that if you decided to run it.

I'm in keeper league that uses Yahoo - that seems to work really well, though there's a cost for those kind of commissioner controls (just a few bucks divided 8-12 ways though)

We run the auction (which is way more fun than a draft) through fantasyauctioneer.com, and the commissioner plugs the players into Yahoo.

I've always played mixed leagues. I'd like to try an AL or NL only league this year. I'm hoping I can get into the FOFC Hardcore League this year, too.

Looking for an NL only league similiar to the above mentioned AL only league except with longer contracts (3-4 years).

Although, would consider a AL only league..

Not to be a jerk but why did you choose a H2H format in an auction league? I always thought auction leaguers prefer Roto?

I did a mock auction on ESPN last night- nice format, mostly (there are some complaints I have with how to view, search for players, etc, but all in all, it's pretty slick.

For Lathum's league, if you aren't present for the draft, it probably won't be fun. And, if you haven't done an auction before, go do a practice one to get used to ESPN's auction process (how to nominate players, bid, make a strategy- go hard early, hang back for bargains, whatever).

26 starters- any idea how much we will have to bid? $260? How about adding players off the ww? Is that bid on also?

For what it's worth, I have received a few inquiries about setting up a league like this, including a potential volunteer to actually do the legwork (resolving my personal commitment deficiency).

If you're interested in something pretty close to this, send me a PM soon. I think 8 is a bare minimum critical mass to go forward, but 10 is better.

If this get moving, I will start to flesh out more details for things like the keeper system. If you have worries about the financial side, I will either serve as the league treasurer myself, or else I'll personally vouch for the individual who does so (in case that gives you any comfort).

Bump, re: Lathum's auction league.

1) We only have 3 teams currently- might want to get out ahead of this and promote

2) Points or roto or other? I'd prefer H2H or roto (still not a huge roto fan but whatever)

3) After the draft- how is free agency/waiver wire done? Do you have to have cash left over for bidding on those?

SI

I got about three nibbles, and have nowhere near the energy required to convert that into a real league. *shurg*

May be willing to join another one, though.

In the past I've done a few leagues where when we were short serious owners we just restricted the pool instead of searching for owners.

4 dedicated owners using just the AL East can make for a pretty good league. We had 6 do an NL league and we agreed on 2 teams and everyone else picked 1 on top of that and used 8 NL teams to fill out 6 roto rosters.

I'd be okay if you put it out of its misery.

I already left the league as it appears to have 3 players
