IWS #47

Questions for IWS #47

My apologies if any of these are repeats:

1. Name a River in Europe or Asia
2. What do you want to eat right now?
3. What time do you get up in the morning?
4. What age would you like to be right now?
5. Name a classic movie about any sport.
6. What is your favorite comic strip?

You have 1 week, enjoy....

The Rules

These are the copy and pasted rules from the very first The FOFC “I’m With Stupid” Contest, written by QuikSand.

The object of this contest is to answer the questions posted below, and to provide the most common answer among those submitted. For each question, your score will be equal to the number of people who submitted that response. Your score for the contest will be the product of your individual question scores. Highest score wins.

There aren’t many rules or clarifications necessary, but here are those I can think of:

No collaborating in any way. No posting your answers to this board, nor sharing them by email or in any other way with other potential contestants.

All determinations of “matches” and anything else requiring judgment fall to that of the sole administrator of this puzzle, TRO. You can reduce the need for doubt and judgment by properly spelling your submissions, being clear, that sort of thing.

Any references that are unclear to you, due to language or geography, should be understood to be authored from the perspective of an English-speaking American. However...

Your answers do not necessarily have to be correct in order to score points. If I ask “name a color of the rainbow,” and you and four other people responded “black” - you get five points, period, even if it is not technically a correct answer to the question.

Submit your answers by Private Message to TRO before Tuesday 8/5/03 23:59 Eastern Time.

That was interesting. In each of the questions (except for 1 and 5), I had to completely lie. The goal, as I see it, is to come up with the most popular answer - regardless if you answer the question truthfully. Kind of defeats the purpose.

Or you can just bite the bullet and answer truthfully

Actually, that is the purpose.

Does that mean a return of Anrhydeddu in the results overview?
You had to lie on the river question? What did you name, Mississippi? That's like calling California a state without a river as border...

By the way, your all time favourite loser in IWS history has joined iws47.

MIJB, notice "(except for 1 and 5)". I am incapable of lying on a geography question.

I entered out of respect to TRO, a very long time forumite.

Anrhydeddu-

Man, I have got no problem with you at all. But why do you act like your presence is so neccessary in this game? If the concept is so stupid, like you have alluded to in several different topics, then don't play. I like the idea of trying to match what other people will say. Sometimes the questions are stupid, but most of the time the game is pretty fun. I am sure that we can get enough people that want to play to enter.

That's true, that's part of the game (one that I didn't quite grasp a couple of IWS's ago ). This time though I'm torn whether to actually try or just to go with fun/obscure answeres (the MIJB approach? ). Especially #6....

(back to ya cuervo!)

Anhrydeddu (or should I call you Buc again?),
I have some sort of (good old) blurring problem visiting php based websites since about 2 weesk ago (went hand-in-hand with Armstrong caputering the yellow jersey) and so I read lying in 1 to 5 in stead.
Maybe I missed one of the questions in this iWS instead and read name a comical striptease for #6...

I thought this was one of the tougher sets of questions I had seen, and one that probably caused a bigger split between "my answers" and "the best IWS answers" that I can recall.

But of course, the focus on guesing the common answers is erxactly the point of the game... not necessarily to reveal your personal opinions or preferences.

When I'm fairly certain I won't win, I find doing the latter more satisfying.

I think the key to questions in IWS is to make them easy enough to answer without google, while not giving away the popular answer in the question.

I'm only really dissatisfied with one question but I couldn't bring myself to putting in the "How Long to Call" question I had considered
