ZipGenious?

Looking for a good free zip program. Did a search here and found that zipgenious was mentioned in this thread More freeware stuff - Front Office Football Central as being very good and free of spyware.

The newest posts in the thread though are two+ years old so was wondering if anyone is still using ZipGenious or is there something better out there?

I still use it. I think it is the best out there.

I use 7-zip...never had an issue with it.

The info on their forums is pretty old with few replies to inquiries. Specifically old posts dealing with vista issues. Some are a year or so old and I would hope\think it's been fixed with vista now the norm for store bought machines. However, I just got a new Dell with vista 64 bit so just to be sure..
anyone running it on vista?

+1, I love 7-zip. I'm on XP/32-bit though, so no help there.

Thanks, I also ran across this in my google search but haven't checked it out yet. I was drawn to ZG due to recommendations here. Your recommendation, like any recommendation from a member of fofc, means a lot and certainly gives me another choice to consider if ZG doesn't pan out.

FWIW only need it for simple zipping\unzipping so as long as its free, runs on vista 64, and is crapware free I'll be happy.

+3 for 7-Zip. I used IZarc for ages but 7-zip is the way to go, and it runs on Vista 64

I like ZipGenius, but if I remember right- it doesn't do RAR's. I could be wrong, tho

Serious question: Where's the need for a separate freeware program when the trial version of WinZip and/or the built-in Windows zip functionality works OK?

Is it solely about "different" types of archives?

XP's built-in utility is tedious...at best.

a) I think the built-in windows zip functionality is terrible.
b) Why buy (or pirate) WinZip when 7-zip is free and better. The trial version of WinZip is a 45 day trial version. It is not free.
