I broke down and got OOTPv5.

And I'm very pleasantly surprised with some of the changes from v4.

But the main reason I got it is because I'm itching to join a league again. Been a couple years since I did that on a regular basis. Anybody know of any good leagues with any openings?

well you just missed a chance to join the amazing(truly amazing) MLBEuro, but we may be looking to expand somewhere down the road.

If I wanted 'somewhere down the road,' then I'd have gotten OOTPv5 'somewhere down the road'

The only leagues I know that have good FOFC membership are:

the MLBEuro (mentioned above) which I believe is currently full

RWBL which has a few people on the waiting list from what I know..

CFBL which I think has one team open currently (Atlanta) unless that has been filled.. Atlanta is a good team battleing Vince's Phillies for the NL East crown

UBL and FOBL .. both of which I admittedly do not know much about , but many members of FOFC could probably tell more.

hmm, it certainly LOOKS like Atlanta is still open, if the CFBL page is any indication...

Atlanta is still "open", although there's been an interested owner who hasn't confirmed he wants it yet.

I originally purchased OOTP4 based on the hype (my first OOTP) and was thoroughly disappointed. I dove into the original PureSim for my baseball fix and had a blast for the first few months. For whatever reason, (mainly CM4), I could never get into PureSim 2003. I never bothered with OOTP5 because of my previous experience.

This thread made me download the demo and I'm frankly shocked to see the amount of improvements from the previous version. I love the drop down menus; the whole look and navigation is much slicker. I only noticed one spelling mistake and it wasn't in the scouting reports (plus, it's a demo). The player cards are full of easily accessible information. I really couldn't get a feel for the almanac because of the lack of season history but I think it will serve its function.

This will be hard to resist...

FWIW, I wish I had bought it sooner. I held out because I was skeptical, but...wow.

The interface is much better, and I'm enjoying the manager mode. I still get irritated when my pitching staff walks 8 men a game and the opponent doesn't, but...I can deal.

I do find it a little humorous that some of those not wanting "multiplayer" in FOF are the same ones in online OOTP leagues (that doesn't include you, Josh). I think the erroneous perception is that "multiplayer" was some time-intensive online deal like Madden or MMOG. Online OOTP leagues, much to my surprise, really does not require much time online, just enough to import and export. That was the reason for the outcry against FOF for not allowing more than one human owner. That's all OOTP is (and what TPF will be), just multiple solo leagues going on at the same time in a coordinated and cooperative manner.

'Course it doesn't include me. I'd love to see multiplayer in FOF. It's just not a feature that I'll die if I don't have is all.

The Tigers are open in the UBL.

You can play with Cuckoo, Hell Atlantic, Tobias, Rexall - it's really quite a mix.

ootp5league.com - you can post something in the open team forum, Detroit isn't listed, but they are open. Please try to ignore today's flame fest, the league really does have a lot of potential.

lynch, from what I'm reading the Tigers aren't "open" open because HA still needs to talk to couriers. I'd rather not jump into a sensitive situation until I know for sure what the status of the team is.

If couriers really is calling it quits, then I'd be happy to take the Tigers, but I kinda feel like I ought to wait and see what's going to happen on his end before posting anything.

sackattack:

scoring you in the UBL would more than make up for the loss of couriers. i'm astounded by the high calibre of owners that are coming from the FOFC community.

thanks to lynch jim for the recruiting, nice to see you jumping at the chance to land sackattack.

things got a little nasty today, lots of laundry was aired out, but it's not indicative of what the league is like. we're entering our 2nd season, i'm a first time commish, still working out the kinks, that's all. anything that was said today in the forums was meant to improve the league, and while i lost my patience it's nice to at least see people who are committed to making the league work. we got some nice FOFC guys inthere, as lynch pointed out. come in, register for our boards, request a team in the proper forum, and we'll get things moving to get you in.

i'm trying to convince couriers to stay, but right now he's not hearing it. not a good time to be leaving the UBL as things are looking up for the better. i've seen worse happen in another league i founded - the RWBL - and they've turned out quite nicely.

HA,

I appreciate the kind words, although I don't recall whether we've ever been in a league together before.

Do keep me posted on what's happening with the Tigers, at the very least. Ideally couriers would retain them, but if for whatever reason he chooses not to, I'd definitely be interested.

no, we haven't been in a league together, although we used to have great IM conversations and would shoot the shit together almost nightly.

i'm more concerned with stocking the UBL with guys with great online personalities, and since i've been a member of this community and people here are familiar with the HA "brand" of entertainment i'm eager to accept owners from here. since we go way back and since we have a lot of old FOFC vets in our league i envision you fitting right in.

the only thing i have to say is that i highly encourage you to register for our message baords. this website is firewalled at my job so i won't be able to come back here for further discussion tomorrow. somehow the UBL website isn't firewalled and i maintain a consistent presence daily.

BTW, for those of you interested in MLB Euro, Ron (VTBub), the commish, is doing live audiocasts of the European Champions Cup, with games 3-4 being audiocast at 10 PM tonight (monday). If you want to listen, and just shoot the breeze and listen to the game, whatever, let me or Ron know, and we'll link you up

Without boring you with the details, he's not going to retain the Tigers. I spent a good part of yesterday hoping he would reverse his decision, but he feels that HA crossed the line a few times yesterday.

We smoke crack late at night in the JBL. See my sig. Of course we have no open teams right now due to the exit fees shorty and I charge as co-commissioners.

Yeah, and that's kind of a critical point there.

But hey, the upshot is, not speaking Japanese, I can curse out the umpires with a smile, and they'd never know what I was saying.

I hope.

Some of the players speak a broken English, but the umps are clueless. Schmidty took it too far once, and exposed himself, which appears to be a universal language. He was tossed from the game.

Yeah, that slot in the CFBL is open. My roommate has been lagging and isn't sure he's going to join now, so Atlanta is still up for grabs. You'd be more than welcome...we could use some more competitive owners.
