Post A Product of Boredom...

Well...since I was bored I thought that I might start a new career and post it here. Well, I decided to use the Indianapolis Colts since it's one of the few teams I've never used. Well...anyway...here is how I started:

First thing I did was look at my roster and what had to be filled...I needed a 4th WR and a FB, along with some other things.

I noticed that I had way to many G's so I traded Tom Myslinski(G: RB-56/59, PB-73/74, End.-64) to the Raiders for Tony Bryant(DE: RD-32/67, PR-21/54, End.-64), that gave me a young and talented DE(more talented than the rest on my team.).

My next step, I looked at my long list of DE's, most of whom blow very hard, and released; Van Tuinei(DE: RD-4/8, PR-0/2, End.-40), Mark Thomas(DE: RD-4/5, PR-12/12, End.-7), and rookie Brad Scioli(DE: RD-6/19, PR-7/20, End.-10).

After that, I went to look at who else needed to be released...so I released Bert Berry(LB: RD-19/24, PR-10/13, PD-13/17, End.-11), Jason Johnson(C: RB-0/2, PB-4/10, End.-35), and Keith Elias(RB: BS-34/34, SY-10/13, 3D-34/34, YP-1/2, Car.-52, End.-60).

Now, I needed to go sign some people...so I went to FA and got; Lamarr Glenn(FB: RB-8/17, SY-16/30, 3D-27, YP-11/17, Car.-2, End.-16) to a 2 year $450,000 contract, then 6'5" 220lbs. WR Malcolm Johnson(WR: Cat.-16/32, YPC-22, CF-10/26, 3D-17, Car.-7, End.-35) to a 3 year $820,000 contract, and Jerald Moore(RB: BS-74, SY-22/26, 3D-38, YP-36/38, Car.-22, End.-67) to a one year $800,000 contract.

Next I needed a third S, so I took one of my CB's, Tyrone Poole(CB: RD-32/34, PD-47/50, Int.-47, End.-60) and put him in at S(S: RD-11/12, PD-48/52, Int.-50, End.-60.).

Next I needed to get another C, so I traded rookie G Brandon Burlsworth(G: RB-32/61, PB-32/64, End.-62{Believe it or not, that was my least talented G}) to the Dolphins for rookie C Grey Ruegamer(C: RB-23/61, PB-25/71, End.-31).

Now that all this was done, I went to mess with the Depth Chart, my starters:

QB-Peyton Manning
RB-Edgerrin James
FB-Lamarr Glenn
WR-Marvin Harrison
WR-Jerome Pathon
TE-Ken Dilger
LT-Adam Meadows
LG-Tarik Glenn
C-Jay Leeuwenburg
RG-Larry Moore
RT-Waverly Jackson
P-Hunter Smith
K-Mike Vanderjagt

LE-Dan Footman
LT-Tony McCoy
RT-Ellis Johnson
RE-Chad Bratzke(LE on PD)
LE on PD-Tony Bryant
WLB-Karl Kennicott
MLB-Cornelius Bennett
SLB-Mike Barber
LCB-Jeff Burris
RCB-Delmonico Montgomery
FS-Jason Belser
SS-Chad Cota

On to the pre-season...

EXHIBITION SEASON

I decided to start most of my big name players, mostly due to the fact that they're young and could use some extra time to reach their potential.

Game 1: Indy-6 @ Chicago-10

Offensively we only had 73 yards rushing, and only 173 passing. Despite are bad stats, I'm not too worried about the passing game. Peyton manning connected on 68% of his passes.

On the other hand, I am a little worried about the running game. Edgerrin had a mere 50 yards on only 11 carries...thats not too bad really...it's just that all 50 of his yards came on one paly. Which means the rest of the time he wasn't getting much if anything or he was talked for a lose.

Defensively, we gave up 174 in the air, thats not way too bad, but we can do better.

I am happy however, with are run defense, we allowed only 68 yards on 38 carries, that means they were not getting much when they ran the ball.

Concerns
  • We fumbled the ball 4 times, lost two of them.
  • Stoney Case went 8/19 for 51 yards and one INT.
  • Offensive Line allowed 3 sacks.
  • Other than the 2 sacks, no pass rush. Only 1 hurry.

Good things
  • Manning passed the ball very well.
  • E.G. Green played well in trying to win the starting job at WR, he had 5 catches for 68 yards.
  • Hunter Smith had 7 punts for 311 yards, an avg. of 44.

Game 2: Cincinnati-27 @ Indianapolis-33

Offensively, I was very impressed. The team ran the ball for 147 yards on 33 carries, passed the ball 45 times connecting on 31 of them for 313 yards. Jerald Moore ran the ball 7 times for 61 yards and a TD. Edgerrin James added 16 carries for 71 yards and one TD.

I was very happy with the play of back-up QB Stoney Case, he went 16/21 for 160 yards and 1 TD, although he did have an INT. Manning likewise had another nice game, he went 15/24 for 153 yards.

Defense was another story though, we gave up only 73 yards on the ground off of 25 carries, so we continue to do that well.

Are passing defense was horrible though. We gave up 337 yards to the Bengles!!!

CONCERNS
  • Passing Defense: we gave up 337 yards! Good God!
  • Making plays: We got are only INT of the Pre-Season, we need to make more plays!
  • Two TO's, thats not good.
  • We continue to do poorly in the return game.

Good Things
  • Running game did very well.
  • Passing game did very well.
  • Jerome Pathon had 8 catches for 108 yards, may get to keep starting job.

Game 3: Indianapolis-10 @ New Orleans-6

Offensively, once again we run the ball very very well. As a team we had 31 carries for 132 yards. Darik Holmes led the way with his 13 carries for 83 yards. Moore ran 7 times for 30 yards and as Edgerrin pretty much took the night off with only 4 rushes for 8 yards.

Passing wise, well...it was a different story. We threw the ball 32 times...only to complete 18 of them. Also, we only got 181 yards, had two INT's, and allowed two QB sacks. Case threw two INT's, increasing his total to 4 already, plus he only went 6 of 14 for 71 yards. On the other hand 3rd string QB Kelly Holcomb went 12 for 18 with 110 yards.

For once it was the passing defense that out played the rushing defense. We allowed only a mere 127 yards through the air, but 107 on the ground. After allowing 141 yards on 63 carries(2.2 yards per) we let NO get 107 and 3.8 per. That's not good.

Are pass defense did play well, only allowing 127 yards off of 14 completions from 38 passes and a 3.3 avg. Thats a good thing, but once again we couldn't get any INT's!

Well...anyway...I'm going to switch some things around and see how they work...hopefully I can get things going right.

Game 4: Seattle-0 @ Indianapolis-27

Well...it looks like that change may have worked!!! This was are best showing of the pre-season. We did everything right!

Offensively, we did great. We ran the ball 31 times for 141 yards, and passed the ball 34 times completing 26 of them for 285 yards. Manning went 14 of 18 for 152 yards and 2 TD's with 0 INT's. Case bounced back from his poor game against NO to complete 12 of his 16 passes for 133 yards and a TD with no INT's.

The running game was great. Edgerrin ran the ball 13 times for 98 yards. Moore ran 8 times for 28 yards and stole the #2 RB slot from Holmes.

Defensively we only allowed 83 yards of 24 carries in the running game. The thing I'm most impressed with was that we only allowed 84 yards passing!!! Seattle went 9 for 30 with no TD's and two INT's along with 2 fumbles!

This game was a great way to end the pre-season and get ready for the regular season. Next up are the Bills in week one.

Ah, mid season, things are starting to look good for my Colts. I've won three of my last five games, we're still having problems especially against the run. I've seen way to many 200 yard games by the other team. I think I'm going to move Zack Brock into the starting rotation, moving down Marvin Harrison. Also, I'm going to try and get Edgerrin James more involved.
