OT: Why are there no American Holidays in August?

I was flipping the calendar and realized that there are no holidays in August.

Anybody know why?

What are you talking about? August 26 is Duane Hawthorne's birthday! That's a holiday worth celebrating!!!

QS, I wonder with you and I both being in public entities, do we take the multitudes of holidays that we get for granted? For me, I get 11 holidays on top of 4 weeks of vacation.

Ahh, those were the days, working for JHU. All federal holidays, a float day for graduation, half days Christmas and New Years Eve's, 22 paid vacation and 12 sick days. And no stinking time clock.

There are too many Damn Holidays as it is. It's gotten so ridiculous that I almost have to add "Holiday Gift Expenses" to my Budget each Month..

Perhaps August should file a lawsuit for discrimination.

Did i see people saying there are to many holidays? Until i get more vacation days keep adding the holidays!!! I'm all for a federal Show Truckers Your Love day....or maybe, and i'm sure more people would be behind this, some kind of day to celebrate NFL preseason?

I don't have a real problem with a day off work, I just think the whole concept of holidays is weak. As far as work leave goes - I'd rather have 30 days or my own discretionary vacation time than 20 vacation days and 10 odds-and-ends holidays pre-assigned based on whatever historic or religious event made the politicians decide it was worth declaring.

Yes, I'm aware that without holidays to tell us what to respect and what to remember that most of us never would get around to it (baaa...baaa...) -- but I think that's a commentary on the people, not on holidays.

cincy, the way it sounds, it is just conincidence but today is a "made up" holiday here in Canada, maybe just Saskatchewan. They call it a Civic holiday for whatever reasons, I haven't a clue. All I know is a paid day off from work.

Myself and several other Canadians are celebrating a holiday today....instead of fireworks we will all eat baked beans and light blue angels.

But not Quebecers, don't know why though. Never knew today was a holiday until I saw it on the Bathroom reader's calendar...

Oh, no problem. I don't really care about that holiday, as it would always fall in our three week company shutdown

Hey, why don't I have a beer too? Good idea bbor
