Is this guy stupid or what?
Top Miami recruit changes mind, enrolls at Rutgers
But doesn't Rutgers suck? Sure, they have lower academic standards than Miami, but still, Rutgers!?!?! ![]() |

The main reason he did this would appear to be for location. Rutgers is close to his home. Perhaps, since he couldn't get into his top "prestige" choice school he changed his priority to location

I just read the whole article and saw his SAT score, and isn't 800 the lowest you can get? So you essentially don't even have to try to qualify to play NCAA football?

400 is the lowest you can get (you get that for putting your name on the test) or at least it used to be that way 13 years ago when I took the SAT's.

I thought 400 was the lowest you could get on each of the two sections

No, it was 200-800 scale on each section when I took it and I think it is the same scale (although the test has changed a lot in 10-15 years as far as content from what I've heard.)

Back in Highschool I helped my girlfriend study a lot to make sure she reached 850 so she could go play basketball for UCONN. It took a lot of work and she definitely only got 400 total for her name ![]() |

400 is the absolute low. Even if you get all of the questions wrong, they round you back up to 400.
Want proof? Here ya go.

So in rough TCY terms this guy was a Dist*/(Pres) recruit with an "Excellent" attitude and a 800 SAT score?

Yeah, a guy on my wrestling team in high was being recruited by some big time colleges and was struggling to qualify. He got his scores back and I asked him what he got. He said 640. I made the mistake of asking him which section. |

He had an 800, but wouldn't take the test again to get 820 to go to arguably the top program in the country. Hmmm.
Anyone know who was the last lineman from Rutgers to be a starter of note in the pros? How many Hurricane linemen went in the first round last year?

It could be that he worked his butt off to get an 800 and he may not have thouht that he could do as well again.

I thought that Rutgers was a much better school than Miami.... if so then you would think that they would have tougher academic standards....

She played as a backup for one season and then was so upset by certain attitudes of Geno that she transferred to Georgia Tech. We broke up her Freshman year as being over 3000 miles away (I had gone to USC) was too stressful for any relationship, or at least ours at the age of 18 ![]() ![]() |

Dola, coming out of H.S. she was very highly recruited and set the women's HS scoring record for her career (which I've heard has since been broken.)

Well for some reason, all I see is a box with a red X ![]() However, if that is the same picture you found, I truly don't think the picture comes close to doing her justice ![]() Edited to reply to above edit: I just used your link, and yep that is her. That is the page I found too with the picture I was talking about. I think she was much prettier then that picture portrays and she had a great figure too.

Actually, for most of us mere mortals, Miami is a surprisingly tough school. I think the average SAT for incoming freshmen is around 1200. I don't know about Rutgers so I won't comment, but I once looked into Miami and know for the non-athlete type it's actually considered a pretty good private school. Their marine biology is one of the best.

Say what? Rutgers actually has pretty high academic standards. The alumni keeps trying to push the school to lower some standards for athletes so we can get the better ones. Perhaps this is the beginning of that (unfortunetly).

Shea was actually a very hard worker and it doesn't surprise me that she did well with some carefully picked classes in College. She also wasn't stupid, but did have serious problems with the SAT's for some reason.

The SAT's are pointless, it doesn't prove your knowledge, it proves how well you can sit on your ass for 3.5 hours and take a test...

If I'm correct then one of the colleges at Rutgers has very high standards. There's a few others that are relatively easy to get into, and I guess that they make up the bulk of the student population. When I was there a couple of years ago it didn't seem like the last bastion of intellectual achievement, that's for sure.
Like ISiddiqui says, there is a group of academics at the university who are always trying to get Rutgers to pull out of the Big East and raise the entry requirements for athletes, saying that dumb jocks are giving the school a bad name. Doesn't seem like this guy from Florida is going to help any. |
