Thoughts and prayers, and a pretty amazing story
My wife's aunt is intensive care after a very serious accident. She was in a car sitting in a turn lane when the car she was in (she was not driving) was side-swiped by an 18 wheeler. She broke a vertebrae which cut an artery in her spine. She had emergency surgery to stop the bleeding, and went through 28 units of blood. She coded at least once on the table. Thankfully, she is now responding to questions, and was even able to write the name of the hospital. She is far from out of the woods. Another car that was hit had the sole fatality. The other two people who were in her car where beat up but ok.
Now, the amazing part. The truck that hit them was not able to stop for another quarter-mile because of momentum. The driver had both of his feet cut off from the collision. The truck driver got out of his truck, with no feet, and drug himself the quarter-mile back to the scene to try to see if everyone else was alright. How in the heck do you do that? I'm not sure if he was truly at fault, or the first car he hit caused the accident. Regardless, he showed some real heart. |

Time of day of the accident? My internet sleuth skills are guessing that the driver fell asleep at the wheel, was awoken by the accident, and felt so terrible that he willed himself to check on everyone else. I'm sure I'm way off, though.
Thoughts to your aunt, of course. Sounds like a terrible situation.

Actually, no. I'm trying to find the article about it now. My wife found it last night. I'm trying to remember exactly what happened. A vehicle ran a stop sign and hit a suv which then went into on coming traffic. The Semi hit the SUV (the only fatality), and then hit the car her aunt and uncle were in. The truck driver was not at fault, but he was so concerned that might have killed someone when he the two cars (which sadly he did) that drug himself all that way. That part wasn't in the article. We know about that because my wife's cousin was one of the first at the scene. He was also the one who ended up removing the body from the suv. He is real shaken up about all of it. Update on her aunt: Still in critical ondition. She is still bleeding, but stable. |
