W2 and 1099 lunacy
Obviously I'm expecting a tax return this year so I'm eager to get my taxes doone asafp.
My question is why the fuck, in 2009, are employers still given 31 days into the new year to provide their employees with this informtion. Everything is computerized these days. My wife generated the 1099s for her job on Jan 2. Quickbooks mouthafucka! Now I'm not one of those tards that pays rape for a refund anticipation loan. I'll get that put of the way. I just want to do a few things around the house that I nomally don't have a thousand extra bucks for. And I got thinking on this topic cause I was talking to a girl at one of my stops tonight. Their last 2008 pay was 12/5. Still no W2s for them. Piss poor laws qe got going here. |

The place I work for thankfully contracts a company to do their w2's online and I was able to get mine on Jan 8th. Getting all other forms were a bit harder, but my refund should be deposited into my account sometime today. Hopefully.

My W-2s aren't a problem, got those. The 1099 from the bank is (although at least the info is up online, just not the forms I need).

I don't know if I would consider not getting your W2's until tomorrow "lunacy". Inconvenient, certainly. But not lunacy.

As a business owner that just got his 1099s out at the last instant, I can just say not all businesses are big, computerized or efficient. I certainly could have gotten them out earlier if the law dictated, or if I had just gotten to it, but it's certainly not the push of a button for me.
Particularly since I can't download the forms, and have to order them from the IRS, which takes two weeks to mail them. Bozos. |

I do tech support for financial institutions - mainly trust departments. By the time banks request the 1099's, review them, do any rerequests and allow us time to do any program fixes we always run up to the 1/31 deadline.
I have no desire to see this moved up.

I'm the low level account at a small accounting firm, I had 19 payroll clients this year, and had to get all the W-2s and 1099s for them. Most were small with under 10 employees, but it does take a while to get all the information, double check all the tax forms filed throughout the year to make sure everything is correct before getting them out. The printing part is the fast part, it's getting all the info. Most companies do their payroll tax reports before they finalize the W-2s and 1099s so thats the hold up... That and some companies use firms with people like me who have 19 payroll clients, some with 450+ employees, it takes time. Now if they changed the law and said you had until the 15th, could it get done- yeah, but it would be a tight squeeze.
And they can be mailed monday and still be good, as long as they are post marked on the 2nd, since saturday falls on a weekend. |
