blast from the past....

So, I'm hanging out in the break room at work eating lunch. Some dude was in the phone room, fixing up the phone system for the store. So, I see the dude boot up the computer controlling the whole mess....and the operating system on this beast is OS2/Warp.

I mean, we're still running windowz 2000 on the terminals around the joint, but for some reason seeing OS2/Warp boot made me laugh.

I have never in my entire life seen the OS2 operating system in real life.

Our IT guy had to argue to throw out a 486 that was still being used. The company wanted him to fix it. Someone had installed windows 2000 on it so it could run what it needed to. If you had to reboot it, you would be in for 45 minutes of fun...

It wasn't a bad OS. At the time I felt OS2/warp was good. It fell victim to the split between IBM and Microsoft and Microsoft snatched up many of the better application writers and got them to write exclusively for their OS vs OS2, and OS2 kind of just died.

The Last OS2 system I had was an old token ring bridge management software that only ran on OS2. Finally retired that box back around 1998 I think.
