NHL 2k9
I didn't have much hope for this one since EA has done a heck of a job with their series and NHL 09 sounds even better.. especially with allowing us to increase period lengths by 1 min increments.. but..
Some videos of NHL 2k9 and it looks great and appears to have the checking toned down a bunch.. presentation looks incredible and they have a hybrid control scheme which mixes up the classic and new finger killing scheme they introduced last year. http://xboxmovies.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/7513/Pittsburgh-Penguins-Introduction/ There are some gameplay videos as well. |

I've always liked the 2k series better, at least on the last generation. 2k8 was not good tho, but a good 2k9 could get me to purchase a PS3.

2kSports has implemented IR passing controls similar to Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 for the Wii, it worked great for PES so it will be interesting to see if it translates as well to hockey.

I've been a fan of the 2k series in the past, 2k8 was decent, but in the end NHL 08 had such a great control scheme. I had both last year for quite some time, but finally traded 2k8 in. |

The one sport, where because there is competition, both games are top notch. What a concept.

Without question, competition. Not just in games but in anything where products are being made. Last edited by rowech : 08-11-2008 at 05:56 AM. |

I loved NHL 2K7, but last year i got NHL 08 for the 360. These video's confirm i'm probably getting NHL 09. The graphics and gameplay really look terrible.

I don't really understand all the NHL2K8 bashing. It's not the greatest game ever but it's not that bad, either.

NHL 2K8 wasn't bad, it's just that NHL 08 was much, much better.
I'd love to see the 2K series make a comeback, though...two healthy game franchises equals better games. |

You're not alone in your assessment, but I like the videos for some reason. Maybe I've just played so many NHL 08 games, I'm looking for something different. |

The MMO mode of NHL 09 isn't different enough?

Wow didn't know that NHL0'9 had the "be a pro mode" like the FIFA series or madden/ncaa superstar. I have enjoyed a ton the be a pro mode in FIFA and it must be so fun in a hockey game.
As i'll play it mainly offline, do you know if it's a full career mode or does it only last 1 season like the first version in the fifa series? Anyway NHL09 is a must purcahse for me now, i'm preordering it now.

Both look like they're going to be great games. Imagine if we had this competition in all the sports.

Do you know where to download this online? My buddy has a PS3 but has never downloaded a demo before and I can't help him cause I don't own a PS3.

You need to go to the playstation store. From there you just go to demos and there you are.
As for the game, you choose between the Wings or Pens, 1 5 minute period. The player models seem a bit skinny and some faces are just wrong. Homlstrom not having facial hair? wtf. Controls are better, but still seem to be a little behind NHL 08. Overall its pretty solid, speed feels good, skating flows well. If not for NHL 09 I'd be excited about this. |

Really liking the gameplay so far in the demo.
Gone are those 200 a minute checks, skating feels perfect, game speed feels perfect, I'm also digging the Pro Evolution controls (think EA). Seems much improved over 2k8... We'll see what the NHL 09 demo has going for it. |
