Brady vs. Manning redux

Digging through the archives I found this old thread:

http://operationsports.com/fofc/showthread.php?t=43040

At the time, Manning had seasons of gaudy numbers in non-championship seasons, and Brady had won Super Bowls. Since then, Manning has won a Super Bowl and Brady has put up gaudy numbers in seasons where his team didn't win the Super Bowll.

I'm curious if anybody has changed their mind since the original thread.

I still think I'd take Manning right now. Both are awesome QBs, but I picked Manning initially, and I don't see enough of a swing (if any) to change my mind.

I think Manning's better, but if I had a very average team (like the '01 Pats), I'd still be tempted to go with Brady.

I would take Brady, but I don't think there's a dime's worth of difference between them. They both have a case for best qb ever.

I was hoping this would be Drew Henson vs. Tee Martin.

In that case, Pass, I would take the SEC guy.

I would take Manning, but I'm also biased.

I think I have to take Brady. 4 superbowls, 3 wins and various MVP and records while being surrounded with arguably less talent.

He won 3 superbowls and never had a receiver as good as Harrison or Wayne

Peyton has never had a defense as good as the Patriots either.

Manning never had tapes of all the opponents signals...

Sure he did.

It's not illegal to tape the opposing coach's signals, unless you do it from the field, sidelines, or any other area where the coaching staff might have access to it during the game. The Pats figured they were OK if they didn't ACTUALLY use it during the game, though the rules clearly say otherwise.

I think they basically have exactly the same skill set. Manning may have had more talent on his side of the ball, Brady probably has had better coaching staffs. But basically I think they're pretty much the same qb. Switch them around, and I think there is no significant difference in results.

If I listed the top 100 things to consider when evaluating which QB is better...

99. Superbowl
100. MVP Awards

Having said that, Brady took a big jump up in my eyes, bigger than Peyton did when he finally won his ring. I still have Peyton a little higher, but I rate Brady alot higher than I did before.

I'd have to ask what winning a Super Bowl has to do with gauging the talent/career of an individual player?

Isn't winning 3 Super Bowls the most used argument of Brady's all-time greatness?

I'm not claiming he's an all-time great, nor am I claiming to be using conventional arguments.

If you work for ESPN, then yes. RBI's are also the best way to judge a baseball player's greatness.
