Ferris Bueller Question
Ok, Ferris is getting ready to graduate.
And he's got an older sister who attends the same high school. Explain. |

I alway tought she was his younger sister, but if not, then there are several possible explanations:
A) She's adopted. B) One of them could've started school late or early. C) Parents got busy immediately after Jeanie was born. Ferris started school at the same time. D) She was left back. E) Dad fucked around on the side. He always did seem a little shifty.

So it's a matter of like she was born in September and he in June? They'd really put them in the same grade?
These are questions I ponder during my 100th viewing. |

I can see Ferris as a guy that was maybe realized as a smarter-than-average kid, and skipped a grade early, thus catching up to his sister. Maybe he later realized you don't have to try hard in school or something, and then coasted through the rest of his years. This could also explain why he got a computer instead of a car. Maybe his parents were trying to appeal to his smart side.

I have an aunt and uncle six months apart in age. My grandmother got pregnant almost immediately after having my aunt and my uncle was premature. They were in the same grade.

My beother and I are only 11 months apart, and the intent of school authorities seemed to be to put us in the same grade. My parents decided to hold my brother (he's the younger) back a year in pre-1st to make sure we weren't in the same grade. They thought it would be better for both of us (and I agree, it was).

shane's right though - in the movie they really play up the "older sister jealous of all the breaks her younger brother gets" aspect.
this is one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time. it affected how i do things in life in terms of taking off of school/work. |

It's so simple, maybe you need a refresher course.
She's obsessed with how he gets all the breaks...he's younger yet more popular, progressed farther in school quicker than her. That's why she hates him. Come on man.

Wasn't she held back because of an unwanted pregnancy in junior high or something? Either that or she was just really stupid.....

As much as I want to laugh at anthony as well spree, there is some truth in this movie in that it holds a number of very wise points for young people to pick up on that will help them get through that shity transitional period at the end of high school.
Now that said it also holds the obvious youthful naivite and immaturity that goes along with that period as well. YMMV. |

And I've always been of the understanding that she's a year behind him and is suffering from his popularity because of it. I never get any real specific references from the film that say one way or the other though?
