2nd X-Files Movie....This month!?

Alright,

It snuck up on us, out of the blue....I knew one was in production, but i did not expect it to be released on the 25th of this month.

I am actually pissed I didn't see anything about it until last night. My wife who watches Sci-Fi channel and is an x-files nut was as pissed as I was because we had not seen mention of it releasing this month anywhere else....

Just a WTH moment for us last night.

Ahhhh there we go, I thought I saw it on here...but having a trailer just appear in less than a month for a movie that when the 1st one was out...was advertised non stop....was shocking.

Looking forward to it. Especially since it has nothing to do with the conspiracy stuff.

I liked the conspiracy stuff a lot more than their one-offs.

The conspiracy stuff made the tv show unwatchable for me.

Yeah, I vastly preferred the critter episodes. I enjoyed episodes with humor that played off of Mulder and Scully the best. The conspiracy didn't do much for me.

I didn't mind the conspiracy stuff until later in the show. The first few conspiracy episodes I really liked. But, once TSG got cancer the show started going downhill.

Yeah, I didn't mind the conspiracy early on, but it just go so tortured and twisted after a while.

Conspiracies normally do .

I liked the conspiracy stuff myself, but they ended it very stupidly.

I really liked the conspiracy part of the X-Files and it made a perfect blend for conspiracy moving at the season premiere, Feb sweeps, and the season finale. Meanwhile, most of the rest of the time there's the monster-of-the-week episodes that were also strong.

Unfortunately, around the 6th season, everything falls apart. The monster episodes got more hit and miss while the conspiracy was becoming too convoluded to keep up. Duchovny kept threatening to leave and Fox kept threatening to cancel the show so every season finale ended with some big grandiose mess. Eventually, they couldn't sustain it.

For me, the tipping point was when they killed off all of the consortium at Feb sweeps in season 6 (it's not the finale but the later season 2 parter). At that point, they didn't really have any where to take the show and all the writers who had built the grand conspiracy were long gone.

The way I always describe it is that they kept painting themselves further and further into a corner until they ran out of room. By the time the 6th or 7th season came along, they were walking up the wall, throwing paint wherever the hell it would stick and it just didn't work.

The conspiracy stuff was watchable until it began to become apparent that X-creator Cris Carter really had no clue where it all was ultimately leading.

My favorite episodes were the more comedic ones. I have a feeling this movie will die a quick death. I think they've waited too long after the series went off the air to put this one out. Also, X-Files has never gotten the extensive play in syndication that "Star Trek" got.
