1 hell of a surprise today at the golf course

Today I took off work a couple hours early to take my 15 year old son golfing for 9 holes. They have a promotion this week that a kid 18 and under can play free with a paid adult on any of dozens of golf courses throughout Minnesota. So I set up a tee time for 2:40, for 2, and when we got there and paid, we were told they were putting a single in with us, and the guy was out on the range and would join us at the start. My boy was kind of unnerved because he's only played about 2 or 3 rounds on a regulation (other than par 3) course and doesn't play very well. Nevertheless, when our turn came and we were warming up at the 1st tee, we could see our 'single' on his way to join us. The starter announced our last name and 'single Harris'. We introduced ourselves to each other and I thought 'he looks familiar'. When he introduced himself as Greg, I realized 'holy shit', this is Gregory Harrison! After a few moments of disbelief, we tried to get my son to 'recognize' him as he named off a few tv series, movies, etc., but he just didn't know him. He's in town doing 'Chicago' for 2 weeks and just opened last night. He is one hell of a golfer. Hits the living crap out of a driver, 300 yards most of them. He had 1 birdie, 1 bogie and 7 pars. Of course he's played celebrity tournaments, etc. and said he'd played with Duval, O'Meara and many others, even played Tiger's course in Florida, but not with Tiger that day. Seems to be a hell of nice guy too. One exciting moment, we were sitting at the 9th tee talking, with trees all around us, waiting our turn, and without warning, someone from another tee had hit an errant 'bullet' that landed about 3 feet to the left of where he was sitting. I thought that might have shook him up, but he still parred the 9th hole. He autographed our scorecard and 3 hours later, I've still got some butterflies!

Well, I know he played Logan in the short lived TV series based on Logan's Run. Viking Fan should have asked him why that show got cancelled 25 years ago.

He was also Gonzo Gates from Trapper John M.D. Thats where I remember him from most because I liked that show and he was pretty cool at the time.

So, aside from being in "Wonder Woman" and maybe having a chance to check out Linda Carter up close in personal, I see nothing compelling on this list.

Gregory Harrison? Jeez, don't you remember Trapper John, MD.
I guess if your not too much older than 20, you probably don't know who he is. My wife said a couple of times while we watched that show back then about how 'cute' that guy is. He has made a ton of movies. But he said a lot of them were on the Lifetime channel. Man, that's a channel for women, why would I be watching that? My son Andrew played about his normal game. He didn't know who the guy was, so it wasn't affecting him much. He said if it was Richard Dean Anderson who joined us, he probably would've freaked out.

You mean you've never seen the truely classic Au Pair and Au Pair II - two nice gentle comedys which I throughly enjoyed.

I wanted to have a motor home like that and sit on the roof with the lawn furniture drinking margaritas like he did. Oh, and the hot nurses would be a bonus too.

That's got to be a record. The guy has 60 Hollywood credits and I have never seen a single one of them. Wierd. I guess I'm a little to young - 31 - but it's not like I'm 12 years old and haven't ever watched any old movies or TV shows. Wierd.

Wow, that's strange, cause I have a golf story too.

One day, I was out with some friends on the course, and some dude in a red shirt pulled up in a golf course, claiming that he was Tiger Woods. He then said that we can compete in a "closest to the pin" competition, where the winner gets a new Buick.

Man, beating the crap out of that guy was the best work with my 9-iron I had all day.

FINAL RECORD: 78-84. I think we're getting there. Now, it's time to get some pitching over the winter.

So based on that list of credits, I guess you could call him "the Male Judith Light."

Au Pair, it's a cute little stupid movie. The best part, is the girl in it. She is just a classic beauty. Women like her are the reason I constantly lament not getting into acting.

I bring it up, because he did not one, but two films with her.

so your son has a crush on Richard Dean Anderson?

By the way, I'm 28 and I remember Gonzo Gates. He lived in an RV in the hospital parking lot.

For the little TV he does watch, my son's a big Stargate fan, so he'd readily recognize Richard Anderson , or anyone else on that show really. And actually, when Greg Harrison was naming off movies and shows that he'd been in, trying to see if my son would recognize him, there wasn't one thing he mentioned that 'I'd' even seen. The only thing I remember him from is Trapper John.

"Fresno" (1986) (mini) TV Series .... Torch

Fresno was the greatest mini-series ever!

It was a spoof of Dallas, and it was about the dealings and backstabbing involved of a California wine family (instead of a Texas oil family). Great comedy.

I wonder if it's ever been released on tape/DVD?

Believe it or not, I never watched it. According to the IMDB, it was on TV from 1979-1986 so I was old enough to see it. But I guess at age 7-14 I wasn't into medical dramas.
