Thumbs down The official thread for people who don't like Eighties music

In my CD collection I have 2 CDs from the pre-1960s, 42 from the 60s, 139 from the 70s, 12 from the 80s, 84 from the 90s, and 54 from the 00s.

So, if you're like me, what is it that you don't like about 80s music?

To me it's probably the production that kills it for me, because a ton of 80s records sound more dated than 60s and 70s records. There are a number of singles from the 80s that I (sometimes embarassingly) admit to liking a great deal, but very few bands that hit the big time in the 80s do anything at all for me.

I'd assume you like the song 'Down Under' since it's your National Anthem.

If by "like" you mean "want to stab myself in the ears with rusty nails every time it comes on", then yes.

80s production is really bad, I agree. The pop music is the worst, but certainly even the hair bands all used the same production techniques. It all sounds dated, and that limits its likeability/effectiveness years later. As I posted in that Nickleback thread a couple of weeks ago, even though I graduated high school in 1989 and essentially grew up in the 80s, there is very little 80s music I can stand listening to these days. Just a few transcendent albums and a handful of favorite artists that, simply because of the emotional attachment I have to them from that time in my life, I'll probably never stop listening to. But otherwise, I agree, that decade has aged very, very badly.

He's obviously thinking of Goldilocks in the back right of that picture.

Except that U2 and Pink Floyd were also 80s music.

or some of their best albums were in the 80s.

Really, really dislike U2, and one of the 80s albums I own is from Pink Floyd. Having said that, I strongly disagree that the 80s was even close to Pink Floyd's peak in the 70s.

This would be last time I will ever respond to you. I'm going to ignore your U2 crack and just say that while I can agree that Pink Floyd's peak was in the 70s, my favorite three albums are The Wall (which caught on in a big way in 1980), and two later live albums (one in 88, the other 95).

LOL, believe me, I'm used to the U2-fanboy hate.

I have an Irish friend who is the biggest U2 fan in the world (without doubt - you should see the super-scary "shrine" of all things U2 in the middle of his living room), and we've had some great arguments over the years.

Good point on the Wall too, I was thinking only of release date.

Count me as an anti-U2er. Only song of theirs I've ever liked is Bullet the Blue Sky. Everything else, you can keep.
