Worst Small Business Idea Ever
While my wife and I were in the DC area looking for a new place to live, we ended up behind a car advertising a special tourist package. Apparently there are some really great deals on tour packages to Liberia! Can't imagine why.
Now who gets into the travel to Liberia business? Is it a guy that just can't find a challenging enough business/ Maybe selling I Love Saddam t-shirts was just not thrilling enough. If you are in the Beltsville area of MD and really want an exciting vacation look for a white Toyota. They can really set you up. |

There are several different Liberias.
There's a Liberia, Costa Rica. It's a popular tourist spot. Maybe that's what they were talking about. Then there's the West African nation of Liberia. It's capital, Monrovia, is the only national capital outsid ethe US named after a US President. At one time, abolitionists wanted to ship freed slaves back to Africa and thus Liberia was born. The American Colonization Society was formed in 1817 to resettle black Americans. In 1821 they purchased a strip of land along Africa's coast. In 1824 the ACS created a system of laws and Constitution for the area. Slowly, Liberia became a republic and free state. Liberia suffered under civil war during the 1990's, but that has ended. What then, makes you think that trips to Liberia, considering the deep American-Liberian connection, are that farfetched? -Anxiety

Anxiety: Have you not kept up on the new civil war that embroils Liberia? The UN has called for peace keeping forces and Bush has publicly called for the President to step down to avoid further bloodshed. Thousands are being killed and Monrovia is a lawless war zone.
That's why I think tourist trips to Liberia may be a tough sell.

Don't live in Maryland, that is the loser side of the river. Its all about Virginia. Virginia is for lovers, didn't you get the memo? Maryland bad, Virginia good, DC - stay where you are.
