An unexpected bonus if the writers strike drags on

Roger Waters is slated to appear on SNL Feb. 2nd. Rumor has it that if the strike is still on, there is a good chance that he will perform 'Dark Side of the Moon' from beginning to end with his band. While not the full Pink Floyd regulars, it still will be pretty cool if this happens.

who cares if the writers never come back, this strike just shows me how unimportant they really are

I would have to vehemently disagree there - TV, for the most part, is absolute garbage right now - outside of a few shows that were left in the can.

TV is mostly garbage anyways with writers.

I personally don't miss the writers and I believe shows like Conan O'Brien are even better w/o the writers.

Completely agree. I miss my Office, House, Chuck (although two new eps tomorrow night), and Heroes terribly. And a handful of other shows I miss badly. TV sucks right now.

That sounds like something made up on a Pink Floyd message board. Why would they cancel all the other SNL episodes and keep that one on?

We'll agree to disagree then. If you don't like TV then I'm not sure why you give two shits about even discussing the writer's strike.

You guys realize that programming hasn't been impacted too much by this yet, right? All of the episode we're seeing were made before the strike.

When BSG and Lost cut off early, then I'll start to get annoyed. Right now, my wife and I are going through seasons of 24. We're in season 4 right now. God bless Netflix.

I guess the new Terminator show is the only thing I'm really interested in right now that this would affect.

The writers seem to be working really hard on "American Gladiators" right now. That shit is so scripted, brother.

Well the lack of 30 Rock is one difference. You have to be pretty blind to not see the difference between that and Celebrity Apprentice.

Not if you never watched 30 Rock or ever care to.

Except admitting that you don't care for 30 Rock pretty much solidifies you as a tasteless philistine.

Right, because shows always start off brilliant and never need a few episodes to hit their stride...

No Heroes sucks. But an early edition of Big Brother is coming which I like. I don't care much about the strike.

No, but if you didn't, you'd have missed out on a show like Seinfeld.

No, just the ones that many people and critics say have really hit their stride and are worth watching.

Doesn't really bother me whether you watch it or not, but you can hardly claim to know whether the series is any good if you've only ever seen the pilot.

I never claimed to know if the series is good or not right now, just that I don't feel like bothering to find out due to how underwhelmed I was by the pilot.

So be it. If you like TV and have time in your life to fit in a DVD from the series, I'd recommend it even if you didn't like the pilot. I didn't either, but the series has really progressed and hit its stride, and I find it one of the best things on TV right now.

Dola - I also was underwhelmed by the first episodes of "Entourage" and "Mr. Show". Thankfully I watched more of them, and they both quickly grew on me until I considered them among the best things I've seen on TV.

My point being, if you judge a TV series by its first episode, you'll often miss out on great TV because many of them need a few episodes to really get rolling.

Wait a minute is the writers' strike the reason Heroes season 2 was so bad?

Give it a month when all the shows run out of episodes. You will literally have just reruns and reality shows for the next 6 months.

Which indicts the state of television a helluva lot more than it elevates the show.

That depends. I hear critics absolutely raving about it. Seems somewhat like a show like Arrested Development, loved by critics, but has a somewhat narrow appeal. But definately high quality (frankly, I thought Arrested Development was on par with Seinfeld in quality of programming).

They need to make a channel that just shows Mark Dacascos movies, and I would just watch that all day. If they make it and you people don't watch, fuck you guys and your stupid tastes, and I hope you all have to spend the next three months in a place called Heck and the only thing you can eat and drink is horseradish.

I don't think they are saying they don't like TV, they want it to be better than it was before the strike. I like to watch TV too, but agree that most of the pre-strike programming is far below what it should and can be.

Not to mention the shows that are good and intelligent don't get the ratings. Sometimes you have to ask yourself if you want to get invested in a show that you know won't make it past the first season. I felt like I got burned on Journeyman this year. Friday Night Lights looks like it'll be next up on the chopping block.

As Rainmaker points out, there is good programming out there. You peeps just don't watch the good stuff .

Actually a lot of good programming is on cable as well, what with MadMen and now Breaking Bad on AMC, Monk and Psych on USA, etc. I think Arrested Development would have been able to survive on a channel like USA or TNT, but unfortunately it didn't get good enough ratings for a network.

I'm surprised how angry I still am about Journeyman.

I think that anger will have far more effect on my future television viewing than this strike. I'll definitely wait a season before getting into a new show from now on.

The strike has helped, though. I recently started watching The Wire for the first time (knowing, going in, that this is the last ten episodes of a five-season run). Now I have four seasons to look forward to when they hit On Demand.

My wife and I felt the same way about the 30-Rock pilot, by the way. It stunk. Then she took another look at it months later, and got hooked. I've seen a few episodes. It's a quality show now. I still don't like it, but I can see why my wife does.
