I'm the abberation in the family that I like sports. I guess my sister does, too, but didn't play to the extent that I did. My brother had other nicknames in school when he tried to play. I'll just leave it that kids are cruel.

Not too many kids named Otto nowadays...I dig it. And the humor of it is good...not like naming your daughter "Anita" if your last name is Dick.

My nephew was born on June 8, Sorrell Michel Otto Maddock Pilotte.

The last name is pronounced "pilot." My newphew's last 3 names said together are automatic pilot. I hope that when he comes into his own personality (whenever babies/kids do that, he's only 24 days old right now), he goes by Sorrell, because right now my brother and his wife are calling him Otto.

Of course, when you see the mom and my brother, it might make sense...

I swear, my sister and I are normal.

I once did some work for a woman with the last name of Suckett. Pronounced "suckit". I was very careful when I returned the call, I went all around the Suckit pronunciation, but they didn't have a problem with it.

I then met her husband. His name was Richard...When I grinned, he said "It's allright...I was in the army."

Now that was cruel.

My uncle's name is Beaver

Everybody in my family's middle name is Lee. My dad used to tease me and tell me that he wanted to name me Home. Instead I was named after my mom's favorite alcohol.

If they really want to use Otto, they should use it as a middle name, then the kid can choose to use it or not. Kids are going to tease kids regardless, if they choose to name him Otto, at least they will know what alot of the teasing is about.

As an avid vintage card collector, I get a kick out of names like Dick Pole and Rusty Kuntz.

Now I really feel old if some here does not remember the Seattle Pilots or the old Brewers logo.

Is this the old Brewers logo with the MB glove or an older one?

I had to pull out my 1971 set to see what it was. It was the same color as the Pilots hat but instead of a gold 'S', it was a gold 'M'. I think they had this until the mid-1970s.

I've always thought that one of the greatest sports memoribilia chases one could have across a lifetime was a quest for a near-mint or mint 1971 Topps set.

You are definitely right about that, SI. As far as completed graded sets, there are only 18 that are near-mint or higher. Compared to, say 1968, where there are 14 completed graded sets that at least nearmint-mint (a full-grade higher). Statistically, only 55% of 1971s graded are 8 (nearmint-mint) or above, while for 1968, 1969, 1970 and 1972, those come in at 75%.

My set is 95% complete but it is in raw condition ranging from mid- to high-grade. I started this back in 1971 and I'm glad I didn't have to chase after the high grade cards.

When I think of how many cards I had from 68-72 and just lost or put in the spokes of my bike it just kills me.

I always had a soft spot for the Pilots for two reasons. First, the first year I collected (1970) had a bunch of Pilots cards and always thought they were cool; and second, I read Ball Four when I was a teen and he certainly made the Pilots sound like a frickin' nuthouse. Besides, that's one more thing you can blame Selig for.

I know. My Selig hate goes back a long ways.

I was 7 years old in 1969. The Pilots were the coolest thing in the world. I went to three games and still remember them all vividly. Reggie Jackson (a rookie then?) hit two balls completely out of the stadium on my birthday.

High school teacher whose last name was Hole, first initial A. It got so bad he eventually changed his name to Holme.

And I once interviewed for a job with an HR person whose name was Kandi Cotton. And no, I was not interviewing for a porn job.

Thanks for those, Bucc. I had some of those cards, great memories.

Don Mincher and Segui were favorites. I also remember Ray Oyler being quite popular. And Gus Gil, but that's probably because of his great name.

Diego Segui, iirc, was in KC for the Negro Leagues games signing autographs. Speaking of which, this year's Negro League game is this Sunday but it'll be a much sadder place with Buck gone
