By JESSE J. HOLLAND, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Attorney General John Ashcroft (news - web sites) asked Congress Thursday for expanded powers to hold suspected terrorists indefinitely before trials and to let him seek the death penalty or life imprisonment for any terrorist act.

Ashcroft told the House Judiciary Committee (news - web sites) that the 2001 Patriot Act signed into law after the Sept. 11 attacks should also be expanded to let prosecutors bring charges against anyone who supports or works with suspected terrorist groups as "material supporters."

that scare me alot. They have already held several people without any lega rights, with very little evidence in regards too terrorism.
Those two words support or works with, is a very broad definition.
How much proof would they need to claim someone supports a suspected terrorist group?

Anytime Ashcroft opens his mouth, I get scared. The fact that the last couple of years seem strangely like what I've read about McCarthyism probably has a lot to do with that.

He's just like McCarthy too, he's a conservative, a drunk and he plays the piano.
