9.9 - Marty Bergen - Athlete
A catcher for the Boston Beaneaters in the late 1890's. He was sai to have been able to throw out a runner at second without getting out of his catcher stance. He was released (or left) the team in 1899. His family was worried he was going insane. Unfortunately, they were right. On Janurary 19th, 1900, Bergen murdered his wife and two children with an axe before nearly decapitating himself with a razor. It was ruled a murder-suicide. I'm sure Bucc could fill us in more on this guy. |

And with my final pick of the draft, with my wildcard pick I will take a 2nd fictional character and I beleive, to this point, the only criminal taken from literature (the rest are movies I think). I take...
Professor Moriarty - Wildcard |

I would strongly argue that the Jack the Ripper murders are the most famous, actually.

That's true, although the Lizzie Bordon murder wasn't ever solved either since she was aquitted, so there is that argument. Your pick was still great for a 10th rounder though.

For my last pick I knew I had to end with a bang. I had to with somebody big. From his description at Wikipedia: "He is best known for his large penis, his involvement in the brutal Wonderland Murders in 1981, and his death from AIDS."
With pick 10.6 Team Rafini selects John Holmes, Entertainer One of the biggest {rimshot} actors in "movie" history, Holmes turned to a life of crime when his career took a downturn, including selling drugs for gangs, prostituting himself to both men and women, committing credit card fraud and petty theft. His level of involvment in the Wonderland Murders is still a mystery. He was present during the murders, but it is unclear whether he participated in the killings. He was incarcerated in connection with the murders, but released due to lack of evidence. Holmes refused to tell authorities what he knew about the case, and spent some time in jail for contempt of court. Last edited by rafini : 02-28-2006 at 01:51 PM. |

For my final pick, Team Oliegirl selects:
Patty Hearst - Other One of the most bizarre cases ever, Patty Hearst was kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA), her grandfather, William Randolph Hearst paid her ransom, 6 million dollars in food donations to the homeless shelters in the Bay Area. Patty wasn't released however, and later joined the ranks of the SLA, eventually being caught on tape during an armed bank robbery. She served almost 3 years in prison until her sentence was commuted by President Jimmy Carter. She was officially pardoned by President Bill Clinton as one of the final acts of his presidency. |

For my final pick, I too, like rafini, am going out with a bang. This is a make a break pick. Either I'll be lauded as a genius, or ridiculed like a Maximum Football fanboy.
My final pick was hauled before the judges, and accused of treasonous and blasphemous acts. Even though he never directly answered their allegations, they still found him guilty, and was sentenced to death. His only reprieve sat with the Governor, and instead of making the decision himself, he left the condemned's fate to the court of public opinion. The masses had blood lust and wanted him dead. He was executed. However, that wasn't the last we heard from this condemned prisoner, not by a longshot. My final pick is: 10.8 Jesus Christ - wildcard

Lex Luther, Wildcard
Would have picked him much earlier if I had realized fictionals could be wildcards. He's definitely the greatest evil genius ever. |
