What is the world coming to?

Druez actually has a good post in the thread started by David's wife.

Every sign points to the fact that we will be waiting longer than 7 years.

yes, it's fear of being ridiculed by FOFC that has kept football games down since the fiasco of NFL Football 99. FEAR THE FOFC! :D

Aha!!! It isn't because of box art, adding a career mode, lack of programming resources, insanely ambitious release dates, or just plain stupidity that the game hasn't been release yet. It is because of the tone of the posts around here. Maybe if we change our tone the game will be completed faster. Maybe if we had a positive tone all along it only would have taken 4 years for someone to publish a decent non-text football sim.

EDIT: Bee is obviously quicker than Buzzbee.;)

If I had to say yesterday one thing that this thread lacked, it would be a YTMND set to Benny Hill music. If I had to say two things it lacked, first would be the YTMND set to Benny Hill music, and second would be a Maximum Football supporter to act as a foil for the various FOFC members to pile on to.

Does anybody else find it odd that Matrix couldn't get in touch with David to talk about this release-delaying problem because he was at his other job?

Neuqua 02-22-2006 03:29 PM

There's no topping Toddzilla's post in this thread.

When everything about a game and it's developer is odd, something like that isn't all that surprising.

Tasan 02-22-2006 03:34 PM

Odd? No, not one bit. I hope he doesn't have his resignation letter all typed up either. I hope he's there putting in overtime, bucking for a promotion.

Izulde 02-22-2006 03:35 PM

What would really be funny is if he did quit his day job, thinking MF was going to set him for life :D

Bonegavel 02-22-2006 03:36 PM

I am changing my opinion from "the game may get released some day" to "never getting released." Even at this hour (especially when the matrix web site has the words "Release Date : February 15, 2006" next to the game).

Matrix is going to get this elusive Gold Master and realize there is no game here. I think it will turn out to be, at most, a hobbist play tool (an excercise in 3d modelling, if you will).

Matrix Games has published a lot of good titles over the years and I don't see any way that this game can be up to their standards.

Izulde 02-22-2006 03:39 PM

it. This man has spent the last five years of his life trying to make you happy.

This game has truly been David's life over the last two years, and in turn, mine.

The first three years was merely box art development.

I actually liked that one. The only problem I had with it was you had no baseline to go off of as far as contracts go and it was really easy to hose your team.

This is, without a doubt, my favorite argument of all, anywhere. If certainly fits here just as comfortably as it does in the whole milieu of sports, politics, etc. NO - you can't complain about Jerramy Stevens dropping three passes... unless YOU yourself are a NFL-caliber tight end. NO, you can't complain about the decision by the Supreme Court, unless YOU yourself are a legal scholar on individual property rights. Fantastic!

Roffle. Maybe Vic should clarify the fine print on those Matrix rules. They must state that as long as its the developer insulting the work of other developers that's ok just as long as nobody on the forums insults David.

I really thought you were brighter than that. I'm waiting on the inevitable response to move in for the kill. In these sorts of things, it is generally best to think two posts ahead.

FrogMan 02-22-2006 05:16 PM

so, I stay away from FOFC for one day, three pages have been added to the thread here... so what's the news, has this been released yet?

You're the guy who hacked HA's board, right?

BigJimSlade 02-22-2006 05:36 PM

Hey guys, I'm new here. I would like to know what David Winter has said about other text based developers. I was planning on buying this game until I heard about his attitude.

Pumpy Tudors 02-22-2006 05:39 PM

No, I'm the guy who was given the master password to Hell Atlantic's site by Hell Atlantic and then accused of hacking when I used it. Fuck, I remember telling you about that, but it looks like you forgot. Hell Atlantic's the guy who mocked the rape and beating of a little girl on these boards, right?

You can read his threads on there or look earlier in this thread, but he has said several insulting/condescending things about other developers in an attempt to promote his own work.

st.cronin 02-22-2006 05:57 PM

Can anybody confirm that there actually was a beta process?

stevew 02-22-2006 06:06 PM

Maximus was a beta tester.

Well, I guess it's a perfect marriage. What if he didn't fake his own death, but was framed by Matrix, and had to go into hiding, because he knew all the beta secrets ...

Antmeister 02-22-2006 06:33 PM

I still can't believe this game is $40. While I realize that the game is customizable (to some extent), there is no career play, no draft options, trading, etc. If you are going to spend that much money on a game, I would suggest getting Madden 2005 from the bargain bin (about $5 to $10 dependeping on where you buy it). If you want to do Pop Warner, you could buy Backyard Football for about $15 and last year's EA college title can be found in the bargain bin as well.

At max, you would be spending $35 dollars and have a much deeper playing experience than this. But maybe it is just me.

I guess I left out that whole Canadian rules football. Maybe that is the only drawback.

Pumpy Tudors 02-22-2006 06:40 PM

You know, I think I'm going to play EA Sports Arena Football right now. It's actual Arena Football, not "indoor football" like Maximum Football is supposed to have.

My guess is everyone with Erik and David completing the final tests I am willing to guess that the release that is available to us will be extremely solid if not perfect. I truely believe this.

All,

To focus our attention elsewhere to other things instead of bothering David and Erik has anyone read the Football For Dummies book by Howie Long? I picked it up last weekend some of the introductory reading seems decent.

Firstly I would like to let you know - developing a game is not easy. If you feel that, by yourself, you could develop a better title, then go do it. This man has spent the last five years of his life trying to make you happy. So now, when they are working to make it the best possible game it can be, your complaining. If you've waited five years a few more days aren't going to kill you.

Secondly, as it has been mentioned in other forums, it is JUST a game. Sure, you're all excited, but it's not a sign of the impending Apocolypse if it takes a day or two to work out last minute issues and give you a great release.

How can it be that whenever a game is about to be released (or alledgedly), there are those so dying to get it that they lose all sense of perspective and use of brain cells. We've seen this in every single forum out there. Is it some cartel of immature morons that goes around and posts that if they don't get the game NOWw, they will blow up the world? There can't be that many morons out there, can there?
