gg glengoyne.

-Anxiety

Abe Sargent 03-08-2006 11:54 PM

I no longer have any newbie friendly teams after I defeated Glengoyne 4-0 with my darkies.

-Anxiety

Glengoyne 03-08-2006 11:56 PM

I have never received such a pounding as tonight against Anxiety's Dark Elves. Down five guys on the first drive...and then things didn't get much better.

4-0

I had a blitzer killed, a lineman with a Broken Arm, and on the last roll of the game I double skulled to put another lineman out with a niggling injury.

My humans are sorry they took the field tonight. They might hang their coach before their next trip to the pitch.

Abe Sargent 03-08-2006 11:59 PM

Dice were lucky for me tonight - two games with Necro and Darkies and I inflicted 10 casulties

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 12:11 AM

so, you want to change your luck, Glengoyne? :)

Bonegavel 03-09-2006 08:40 AM

Going to try and get a game or 2 in tonight. Probably somewhere around 7-8 pm EST.

Honk if you love Blood Bowl!

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 01:24 PM

Awoooga!

I'm here all day and all night :)

Damn. I missed a chance at a game.

But I did get to watch my Tivo of 24 from Monday.

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 02:08 PM

Boo Hiss ;)

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 04:28 PM

Lookin for a game, folks.. hopefully someone's home early ;)

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 07:19 PM

Alright, 8:20 folks should be home, right? :D

Glengoyne 03-09-2006 07:41 PM

I'm home early, and I have the wife's permission.

I have a Chaos Dwarf team with two games, a beat to hell human team, and a fresh Wood Elf team.

Glengoyne 03-09-2006 07:42 PM

My humans are looking for a patsy, too bad I can't play myself.

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 07:44 PM

Alright, the humans or the Wood Elves, I'll bring my skavies, they're beat up.

Game name will be Wombat (yes, I'm strange :D)

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 07:54 PM

Damn.. my +ST line rat got arrested. must be charged with steroid use ;)

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 08:14 PM

And we go from wonderful weather to a blizzard :P

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 08:21 PM

And apparently, the Elves are not wearing armor at all :/

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 08:30 PM

GG, I got disconned, one minute, then join game wombat2

Glengoyne 03-09-2006 08:31 PM

My elves are falling faster than my humans last night.

It's still in the first half, and I'm down five players for the game. Four badly hurt, and one serious -- niggling injury.

Bonegavel 03-09-2006 08:37 PM

i on... sorry i'm a bit later than i wanted. Anyone need a game?

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 08:39 PM

Un real. If my count is correct, that's SEVEN CAS for the ratsies.

how long?

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 08:49 PM

Shouldn't be long, he has 3 elves left and it's a blizzard (2nd half)

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 08:58 PM

God I feel awful, GG :(

Glengoyne 03-09-2006 09:02 PM

I thought that I couldn't do any worse than I did against anxiety last night. This was just brutal.

I think I made some bad player placement choices early, and then it just snow-balled. Nothing I did worked out. My Luck number dropped to 14%.

It was really unbelievable. Except I saw it happen.

really no problem. I was kinda rooting for you at the end.

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 09:03 PM

I think you conceded at the wrong time, it gave me your winnings and MVP..

which means the Skavies TR is at 150 now. Wow.

So I guess my next game will be with the Dwarvies or the Elvies

Bonegavel 03-09-2006 09:03 PM

ready to go again? :)

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 09:04 PM

yup, Boney, I assume you don't want to play my Skavies ;) set it up, and tell me who you prefer..

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 09:05 PM

Dropped my Skavies down some by buying another RR :)

Bonegavel 03-09-2006 09:06 PM

FOFC22 is the name

doesn't matter to me... i have to play them all eventually :)

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 09:29 PM

Ok, we're having a bit of trouble, and might need to reload. be ready just in case :)

Bonegavel 03-09-2006 09:36 PM

k, FOFC22 again

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 10:06 PM

GG, the dice went my way (and you made a few questionable moves, that you won't when you get more experience)

At least it wasn't a cas fest like the last game I played ;)

Bonegavel 03-09-2006 10:06 PM

good game, i gotta hit the hay and I'll read any responses in the morning :)

I think I was close to almost scoring.

I'm slowly understanding the power of tackle zones. I should be a decent opponent by the end of the season.

Night!

SirFozzie 03-09-2006 10:09 PM

Anyone else?

Tackle zones and assists, are the secret to Blood Bowl. Fozzie is very good at applying tacke zones to players, and essentially pinning his opponents in place. I can do it occasionally in spots, but Foz can tie down my entire team down after down. That tells me it is both something he is good at doing, and also that I'm doing something wrong.

Just gotta keep after it.

Bonegavel 03-10-2006 11:39 AM

Fozzo... your new job... no more bloodbowl?

SirFozzie 03-10-2006 11:47 AM

read the timestamps on the early part of the thread, dude ;)

Bonegavel 03-10-2006 11:53 AM

oh, fuckles. Nevermind!

SirFozzie 03-10-2006 12:14 PM

Sonce I'm home today, and likely no one else is at least for a couple more hours, it's time for another edition of my series how to Play Blood Bowl.

The dice can be strange creatures, my friends, as anyone who's seen more then 1 rr 1 in a half can attest to. But, only.. about probably one game out of 4 are decided by the dice directly. The other 75% of games are decided by the things you do that DON'T require a die to be rolled to do.

It's the things you do to make the opponent required to roll dice to do what HE wants.

For example.. Dwarves (me) vs Elves (opponent). If I put my Dwarves on the line.. unless I'm very lucky what I'll have is the Elves will knock a hole in the defensive line, and then it's ollie ollie oxen free as the Elves go running downfield for a pass and a likely two turn score. I hate elves ;)

Instead, I hang them back. If elves break through, they'll be surrounded. If they decline to go willy nilly downfield, I've made them play unelfy, with the attendant risks.

Rule 1 The name of the game when setting up and the first turn or two after a kickoff is DENIAL OF OPTIONS. If the offense has several options to choose when deciding where to attack you.. they make you REact. That's not so good. Fortune favors the first to act (assuming you succeed of course ;))

Rule 2: The more times you make the opponent roll dice, the more chance he has to have his turn flame out quickly, giving you the initiative. For example, in my game against Glengoyne, when he sent his guys downfield, I quickly surrounded them with two dwarves on either side (Up and down or left and right, if possible, that way they can't dodge straight out into the clear like with a diagonal, causing another die roll, and another chance for a turnover! :D).

This is especially good for bashy teams, because then that opposing coach is going to be sweating every move, cuz if he DOES have an early turnover, your bashy team gets to.. yup.. BASH. Trust me, it's a lot easier game to play when you have 11 on the field and the opponent has less then 11.

Rule 3: Know your distances.

This is a hard one to do automatically at first, but.. anytime you need to know what they can do to stop them, remember the following rule. For a player to be completely safe, check the nearest players. If they are less then their MA+2 (or if they have sprint, MA +3) away, they can get next to you (and if they have one GFI left.. they can hit you!). This becomes important if your passer is alone in your half. If they knock down the ball carrier, unless you roll dice really well or the opponent really poorly, you're about to get ready to receive another kickoff. This can be used offensively as well...

The bashy team might consider the Gutter Runner 3 squares away from the end zone a bigger threat then the one 8 squares away.. But if they don't cover that 2nd one as well and you get the ball to him, it's still a TD.

Most teams have a MA of 5-7 on their players. So 7-9 squares away (remember, two gfi, especially if they have RR!) unattended players can score. Usually, most bashy teams won't risk throwing the ball.. but if the ball carrier gets in that range, alarm bells should be going off, yelling "GET THIS GUY IN AS MANY TZ's AS POSSIBLE!!!

Abe Sargent 03-10-2006 04:12 PM

The Abe is in.
