Sometimes its hard to be a woman
Giving all your love to just one man
But if you love him
Be proud of him
Cause after all he's just a man

Quote:

I have been reading some of your more "constructive" posts. I would like to respond to them in this forum.

Firstly I would like to let you know - developing a game is not easy. If you feel that, by yourself, you could develop a better title, then go do it. This man has spent the last five years of his life trying to make you happy. So now, when they are working to make it the best possible game it can be, your complaining. If you've waited five years a few more days aren't going to kill you.

Secondly, as it has been mentioned in other forums, it is JUST a game. Sure, you're all excited, but it's not a sign of the impending Apocolypse if it takes a day or two to work out last minute issues and give you a great release.

Thirdly, I have seen you degrade into personal attacks on the developer of the game you've been salivating over. Perhaps you could voice your concerns in a more mature manner. Keep things in perspective. This game has truly been David's life over the last two years, and in turn, mine. I would appreciate you taking the time to think about how hard these people, both David here, but also Erik and David at Matrix games have been working to get this out the door and please all of you.

I felt a little perspective was needed here.

Now, I know, I have probably offended some of your sensibilities but someone has to rein you guys in.

If you feel like you have to post in response, here's a tip: take a breath, think long and hard about how you're going to say things, and if you feel you must respond, be mature about it.

I do realise that I now will be getting a ton of profane and threatening pms - but that's the price I'll pay if you just let David get this out the door for you.

I so wanted to reply to it, but held back...

These people need to understand they are running a BUSINESS. That they are making promises to CUSTOMERS. The product their BUSINESS has promised to deliver is about 3 years late. It is absurd to expect civility at more delays. They have no perspective on this issue whatsoever.

gstelmack 02-22-2006 09:36 AM

Not to mention all the slams coming from her husband against text sim developers...

cartman 02-22-2006 09:37 AM

I feel a bit sorry for Shaun Sullivan in all of this. Hopefully people won't equate Maximum Football with his baseball game, which actually does work and is a fine game. since they are both published by the same outfit.

Anthony 02-22-2006 09:43 AM

why does anyone care though? the humor in this has eluded me since like page 12 or so. the game is obviously not gonna be worth anyone's time, not sure why people are taking off of work for this crap and crying about it.

You mean you'd pass up a chance at a game where you could field a starting lineup of 11 Dean Houston's?

rkmsuf 02-22-2006 10:15 AM

what would you buy?

maximum football or a refurbished electric football game?

me too. the usual was to set the guys up once, turn it on, stare at them for a few minutes and then leave it out on the floor for days until someone yelled at me to clean it up.

Here are some words from a Beta Tester.

1. It was the first time i have tested a game and it was or better is an unique experience. You learn how complex the game is what all can happen when you change "little" things.

2. I have played Micropose (?) Ultimate Football 94 and 95, all sierra titels since FPS 95 and some others. The state of MF is now better than all the other games i have mentioned (even after they were patched). When i had to choose between MF (e.g. yesterday-version) FPS sports vers. 1.08 i would choose MF. Despite the basic career mode for MF it was very hard to achieve relatistic results with FPS 98 (i think some have forgotten this). FPS 98 was a nice experience but it has till to the end some serious problems. It was the community who made the game so great.

3. quote:

In other words, if I watch a CPU/CPU season (all 16 games for one team), will the statistics be similar to a completely simmed season?

I did not such a test but i played or watched league games and compared it with stats from sim games. There should be no significant differences.

BTW. Gambler - Your approach is very realistic.

So what I take from this post is that it's better than a couple football games from 95-96 although doesn't have as deep of a career mode...and the beta tester seems to really struggle with the English language.

edit: And no I didn't run the original post through a jbmagic translator.

Ised to line up my players in a 3x3 block with the extra players on the front end and the ball carrier in the middle of the mass. There was no way to stop that brutal running game, and thank goodness my big brother didn't care about actual football rules.

Poli 02-22-2006 10:24 AM

I tried to make a Christmas tree formation or something. I also held the quarterback up to eye level to try and throw the ball.

My favorite was to put stuff on top of the field and turn the knob so everything rattled.

My mom must have hated me.

I think you had to put up a barrier between Off/Def, set up your play, then remove the barrier and turn on the juice.

I'd consider pushing a release date back almost 4 years very different, but not in a good way. So, in that case, it is horrible. Touche!

Dude.

Seriously.

The game is FIVE YEARS LATE and has had a rolling expectation every few months...

How can you expect for anyone to take them seriously or give them respect or benefit of the doubt with anything they say. They are the definition of a joke.

Aha!!! It isn't because of box art, adding a career mode, lack of programming resources, insanely ambitious release dates, or just plain stupidity that the game hasn't been release yet. It is because of the tone of the posts around here. Maybe if we change our tone the game will be completed faster. Maybe if we had a positive tone all along it only would have taken 4 years for someone to publish a decent non-text football sim.

If I had to say yesterday one thing that this thread lacked, it would be a YTMND set to Benny Hill music. If I had to say two things it lacked, first would be the YTMND set to Benny Hill music, and second would be a Maximum Football supporter to act as a foil for the various FOFC members to pile on to.

When everything about a game and it's developer is odd, something like that isn't all that surprising.

Tasan 02-22-2006 03:34 PM

Odd? No, not one bit. I hope he doesn't have his resignation letter all typed up either. I hope he's there putting in overtime, bucking for a promotion.

What would really be funny is if he did quit his day job, thinking MF was going to set him for life :D

Bonegavel 02-22-2006 03:36 PM

I am changing my opinion from "the game may get released some day" to "never getting released." Even at this hour (especially when the matrix web site has the words "Release Date : February 15, 2006" next to the game).

Matrix is going to get this elusive Gold Master and realize there is no game here. I think it will turn out to be, at most, a hobbist play tool (an excercise in 3d modelling, if you will).

Matrix Games has published a lot of good titles over the years and I don't see any way that this game can be up to their standards.

This is, without a doubt, my favorite argument of all, anywhere. If certainly fits here just as comfortably as it does in the whole milieu of sports, politics, etc. NO - you can't complain about Jerramy Stevens dropping three passes... unless YOU yourself are a NFL-caliber tight end. NO, you can't complain about the decision by the Supreme Court, unless YOU yourself are a legal scholar on individual property rights. Fantastic!

I still can't believe this game is $40. While I realize that the game is customizable (to some extent), there is no career play, no draft options, trading, etc. If you are going to spend that much money on a game, I would suggest getting Madden 2005 from the bargain bin (about $5 to $10 dependeping on where you buy it). If you want to do Pop Warner, you could buy Backyard Football for about $15 and last year's EA college title can be found in the bargain bin as well.

At max, you would be spending $35 dollars and have a much deeper playing experience than this. But maybe it is just me.

I guess I left out that whole Canadian rules football. Maybe that is the only drawback.

You know, I think I'm going to play EA Sports Arena Football right now. It's actual Arena Football, not "indoor football" like Maximum Football is supposed to have.

My guess is everyone with Erik and David completing the final tests I am willing to guess that the release that is available to us will be extremely solid if not perfect. I truely believe this.

All,

To focus our attention elsewhere to other things instead of bothering David and Erik has anyone read the Football For Dummies book by Howie Long? I picked it up last weekend some of the introductory reading seems decent.

How can it be that whenever a game is about to be released (or alledgedly), there are those so dying to get it that they lose all sense of perspective and use of brain cells. We've seen this in every single forum out there. Is it some cartel of immature morons that goes around and posts that if they don't get the game NOWw, they will blow up the world? There can't be that many morons out there, can there?
