OS Awards: Wireless/Handheld Game of the Year
The wireless/handheld platforms for sports gaming grew at a rapid pace in 2009. Several quality titles were offered on both the PSP and the iPhone, among other mobile platforms. However, despite the amount of competition, a familiar face easily won the vote this year. The PSP version of MLB '09: The Show is this year's Wireless/Handheld Game of the Year. Voting by both the staff and readers was fairly one sided, with other titles such as Backbreaker Football on the iPhone receiving just minor consideration. With mobile gaming on the rise, expect major competition in this category in 2010.

Wireless/Handheld Game of the Year: MLB '09: The Show

Jim Harris: It may not be what everyone is looking for in a handheld game, but it's hard to argue with the amount of content SCE Studios San Diego packed into the PSP version of The Show.

Dustin Toms: I know Backbreaker is just a random game on the iPhone, but I have more fun with it than most console titles. The graphics are amazing, the music rocks and the gameplay is superb. If you do not have this game, then you need to cough up $1 and get it. I promise you will love it.

Caley Roark: FIFA 10 on the iPhone was a very pleasant surprise for me, and it shows me what the platform is capable of. When you factor in the features, graphics and the price, you get the most valuable portable game available.

Two years in a row this game has won and that my comments have made the article. Nice!

This is definitely the best handheld sports game out there... ever.

It is practically identical to the PS2 version. They just need to add an install to memory stick option like Gran Turismo had, so the load times are literally not there.
