Troy Glaus Interview

989 Sports: How did it feel to win the Fall Classic in just your fifth year in the big’s? And the WS MVP to boot?

Troy Glaus: Anytime you can win it’s a good feeling – it was a great honor just to be a part of the whole experience and to get to the WS -- to actually go thru and win – it was surreal. It was great to play for the trophy and to win the pennant – everything else is gravy, just an unbelievable feeling.

989 Sports: What is your favorite baseball moment?

Troy Glaus: The last out of 2002 – I can remember it like it was yesterday – I can’t remember much else about the whole game, but I remember the last out like it was in slow motion. It was sort of an out-of-body experience – ya know, just standing there, watching yourself.

989 Sports: Who were your heroes growing up?

Troy Glaus: Cal Ripken JR. and Mark Maguire.
I’ve met them both and it was so great to sit and take it all in – everything they had to say – I soaked it up like a sponge. I was nervous to meet them - like I was and 8-yr old kid. I mean come-on, I’ve watched these guys since I was a little kid so to meet them was a dream come true.

989 Sports: What’s your favorite sport other than baseball?

Troy Glaus: Golf! I play as much as I can.

989 Sports: What’s your golf handicap?

Troy Glaus: 4

989 Sports: Did you know you were the record books for homering in four straight at bats? Think it’ll ever be eclipsed?

Troy Glaus: No, I didn’t know that. Homering five times in five straight at bats would be unimaginable, but then again all records or stats are meant to be broken.

989 Sports: What do you do during the off-season?

Troy Glaus: Training, rehabbing the shoulder, relaxing, playing PlayStation 2 – just trying to get in best shape possible for the upcoming season.

989 Sports: If you weren’t playing baseball, what would you be doing instead?

Troy Glaus: I’d be a teacher – of what, I have know idea – but teaching in some capacity. I love working with kids and charities.

989 Sports: Who’s the biggest prankster on the team?

Troy Glaus: Pitcher, Troy Percival – he gets on everyone. Nothing slides by him and remembers everything – and at some point he’s going to get on you. He has an unbelievable memory and he’ll use it to will embarrass you.

989 Sports: Do you compete with your teammates on PlayStation 2? What do you play?

Troy Glaus: MLB 2004, NFL GameDay 2004 & NBA ShootOut 2004 are all great sports games, they are so realistic. I am also a “gear head” I love racing games – the Grand Turismo series and ATV Off Road Fury are awesome.

I like all of 989 Sports’ games – we have a PlayStation 2 on the road, in the clubhouse, just about everywhere. Playing MLB keeps your head in the game, keeps you fresh and it’s fun to play – we’re all competitive people.

989 Sports: What’s are your favorite 989 Sports games?

Troy Glaus: NFL GameDay 2004 and MLB 2004.

989 Sports: Who is the biggest Gamer on the team?

Troy Glaus: Pitcher, Jarrod Washburn. He always brings the Play Station 2 games with him. He’s big into NFL GameDay and NCAA GameBreaker as he’s a Midwest guy.

989 Sports: What’s in your CD player right now?

Troy Glaus: Red Hot Chili Peppers, a little bit of country to mellow out (Keith Urban, Toby Keith), some Steve Miller Band to just flow and some Metallica to get up for games.

989 Sports: What’s it feel like to go through the motion capture process?

Troy Glaus: Absolutely, amazing. I don’t typical wear tight suits… but to see the motion capture work and to see it on camera is unreal. The technology is beyond belief and has come so far… I remember playing Pit Fall on when I was young and now looking at MLB 2005, it’s scary how realistic the faces, movements and gestures of the players are. When I play, it looks exactly how they do on the real field.

989 Sports: What was it like to see your swing?

Troy Glaus: Extremely cool – but it shows me I need to make a couple of adjustments in my swing. It so realistic – it doesn’t look digitized, the reality is simply amazing.
