Five Teams You'll See Online in Madden NFL 10

It’s tough to compete with the NFL’s heavy hitters when you’re using the Lions or Rams. So if you’re a die-hard fan in Detroit or St. Louis, here’s your early chance to scout out which teams you’ll be facing online in Madden 2010. After all, the games begin on August 14.

5. Atlanta Falcons - One of the most underrated acquisitions this offseason was the Tony Gonzalez pickup by the Falcons. Not only is he the best tight end in recent history, he joins a team poised to make noise this season.

He joins the NFL’s second leading rusher, Michael Turner, and deep threat Roddy White. Matt Ryan is the face of a Falcons team on the way up, and he is equipped with every weapon needed for success. A sophomore slump is not out of the question, but regardless, Madden 10 will still feature plenty of Matty Ice.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers - The defending champions will have a tough time winning a second straight title this season, but their defense should be up for the challenge. Ben Roethlisberger proved the critics wrong last year, and Santonio Holmes emerged as a true number one receiver. Fast Willie Parker will be back, and Rashard Mendenhall’s broken shoulder should be healed for 2010.

When Big Ben gets criticized now, he should just take a page out of Patrick Roy's playbook: "I can't really hear what they said because I got my two Stanley Cu--err Super Bowl rings plugging my ears."

It also helps that the vaunted Steel Curtain defense should be strong once again in 2010. We all know about James Harrison’s aversion to high-profile appearances, but he’ll still be there on Sundays -- he can no-show Obama but Harrison won’t pull the same nonsense on John Madden.

3. Arizona Cardinals - After watching Super Bowl XLIII, I assume plenty of people want to toss the ball to Larry Fitzgerald; he can catch anything in his path and break it off for 70 yards. Anquan Boldin may or may not be on the squad by the time Madden 10 releases, but he definitely helps on the offensive end as well.

One word: dangerous

It’s very easy to forget that this is the same team that lost 49-7 to New England, barely finished 9-7 and had plenty of people calling for a different playoff system in the NFL. But those memories were erased by Larry Fitzgerald’s 64-yard touchdown run. If you’re a person who enjoys tossing the long ball, the Arizona Cardinals should be your number one choice.

2. Minnesota Vikings - This is a conditional choice based on one thing: Brett Favre. If he joins the team, he does not necessarily make the Vikings better, but he will make Minnesota much more popular. Adrian Peterson, Bernard Berrian, rookie Percy Harvin and, of course, the Williams "brothers" on defense certainly don't hurt either on the popularity front.

Either way, the world seems to have a thing for Brett Favre, and his appearance will be a big deal if it happens. If he does come back for the Minnesota Vikings, expect a lot of "gun-slinging" in Madden 10. If he stays retired, bump the Vikings out and move the Tennessee Titans to the five spot.

1. New England Patriots - When you look at the list of teams on this list, it is strange that a non-playoff team would be number one. Nevertheless, the Patriots played quite well despite a season-ending injury to Tom Brady last season. New England has also added the sure-handed Joey Galloway and the shifty Fred Taylor. Both of those guys may be up there in age, but they should still be able to make a solid contribution.

Get used to seeing these jerseys in Madden NFL 10.

I don’t need to go into what else the Patriots have going for them (like the core of a team that went 18-1 in 2007-2008). The Patriots are just as balanced as Pittsburgh, except they have a much more explosive offense than the Steelers. Madden 10’s number one online team this year should perform like it did during its near-perfect season.

Can you beat these teams with the team you like to run with? Will New England return to dominance? Do you want Brett Favre back in the NFL?

I'd put the Giants and Eagles in there.

The Dolphins should prolly be on this list, im sure alot of ppl will use the Dolphins especially with the addition of Pat White, so ppl can run the wildcat.

I'm a pats fan and I refuse to play anybody in 09 who uses the cowboys or the patriots. I've used the vikings since madden 08 and i'm also starting to use the saints.

I'm always using the titans. It does get a bit boring after a while to only play against the patriots and the cowboys

# 5 Steve_OS @ 05/25/09 05:22 PM
Just the Cowboys for me.

Seahawks. Anyone who runs the West Coast Offense will want to use T.J. Houshmanzadeh and Deon Butler. Not to mention how many people want to give Aaron Curry a shot...

some hot teams will be:
Patriots
Dolphins(wildcat)
Bills(TO and Evans)
Steelers(D)
Colts
Cardinals(passing attack)
Eagles
Cowboys
Vikings(AP)

idk those are just teams i think that will be often used

a couple more that will be used a little:
Jets
Ravens
Titans
Texans
Chargers
Redskins
Giants
Saints
Panthers

lol no offense but i doubt the seahawks will be a popular team online. its going to be the same teams it has been the last few years:

1) patriots

2) cowboys

3) chargers

4) steelers

5) vikings

then there is sure to be new ones like the cardinals and dolphins, plus last year favourites like the giants, raiders, and eagles. the lions may even join the mix no that they have a decent qb to throw to calvin. in my opinion these will be the most seen teams online this year, especially the top five i listed.

I'm not sure I agree with the Steelers being used a lot. The online trend seems to be the team with the most passing weapons and athletic players at the QB position will be the teams you see most. Strong defense seems to be a secondary/after thought and running game for the most part seems to be secondary to the passing game. With those thoughts in mind, I'd wager.

1) Cards - Fitz is the best WR in the game and nobody could stop him in the CD build. He even had his way with the best CB in the game Nnamdi Asomugha. With Bolden on the other side having similar abilities and break tackle ability this is going to one of if not the top team. I'm not going to stop using them though. I've used them as a secondary team in previous years. The only limit this team has for the online crowd is a QB that can move. But for those who play online that do not care about getting out of the pocket, they are going with the Cards.

2) Pats - same as above.
3) Cowboys - Romo can move. 3 good HB's. Witten is a top 2 TE. Roy Williams is decent. Look for some Wildcat, but I don't see the Wildcat making that much noise.
4) This one is a tie and it depends on how good, Hakeem Nicks and Ramses Barden get, along with Jeremy Maclin. If these three players progress ahead of schedule, look for the Giants and Eagles to be the next two teams in line. The Giants will be a force because of the Jacobs factor. Jacobs is a monster in the game and if Nicks or Barden can be used to move the ball along with Boss, they are going to be a very strong force. With the Eagles, you are going to have crazy speed with Jackson and Maclin, plus Dmac can move and you can't forget Westbrook.

After this to me the sky is the limit. These are the top 4.

Patriots- duh...
Cardinals-Warner/Fitz/Bolden/Beanie/Cromartie
Eagles-McNabb Rocket Arm,2 Elite Speed WR's and Westbrook
Cowboys-Romo/Witten/Felix...
Steelers- Big Ben throw on the run rating is probably elite in 10'

Well didn't expect them in top five, but top eight for sure. The Bears. Come on, Jay Cutler to Devin Hester? Along with Matt Forte. That could be second or third best QB/HB Combo in the league, along with a defense that still plays exceptional in the game, expect to see The Bears having some strength in this season of Madden.

Other than speed, Hester is not a great WR in this game. And while Cutler/Forte is a good combo, there are teams with much deeper pockets at the HB position, with good WR's and good QB's. I think you are going to have to adopt a particular strategy with the Bears. Better use Olsen a lot in the passing game.

This.

The Eagles and Giants are going to be heavily used. For the same reasons listed above.

I take a little bit back what I said. The Steelers have a shot of being used, but only because of Ben's ability to move. Holmes is a good WR in this game too. So I take it back. But I'm making the case based on what can be done offensively with them. On the higher levels, Parker is not going to break too many tackles once they tune the game. Mendenhall will not be rated too high either.

I'm looking at the Giants and Eagles as those two teams that simply depend on what one or two players do in real life. If Nicks and Barden step up for the Giants, they will be hell in Madden, simply because Jacobs is already hell. Which one of those other HB's do they still have? Plus didn't they draft the Brown kid out of NC State? He's going to be good. Barden could be the worse problem of all if he's good. 6'6

Maybe I'm the only one that gonna take offense to this.... But the Niners will be used alot by me.... Just like I have for the past 3 years online....

the Saints- awesome playmakers on offense, and the defense should now have a good secondary. They will be tough.

Thank god the 49ers are underrated. I want to be the few who use them online.

Bay Area sports for life!
